Description
April 25, 1933. Q SCHWARZKQPF' 1,906,015
AFTER TREATMENT OF ARTIFICIAL SILK Filed Sept. 25, 1930 /N VaN /Q Patented Apr. '25, 1933 UNITED STATES OTTO SCHWAR-ZKOPF, 0F LINZ, AUSTRIA AFTER TREATMENT OF ARTIFICIAL SILK Application filed September 25, 1930, Serial No. 484,390, and in Czechoslovakia August 21, 1929.
For the purpose of the after-treatment of the artificial silk obtained by the spinning pot process for the removal of sulphur, bleaching, oiling, soaping, arranging in 5 layers, dyeing and so forth, it has hitherto been customary to insert in the spun cake a sleeve or bush provided with perforated walls and then to subject the spun cake, which has beenrinsed as it were, to the desired treatment, either in the spinning pot or outside the latter; This method of treating the spun cake has the disadvantage-that the inside of the hollow spun cake does not bear by any means uniformly on the sleeve, so that the treatment fluid entering the latter acts irregularly upon the threads.
The object of this invention is to remove this disadvantage. The invention consists essentially in the fact that the unrinsed spun cake is itself used as a treatment chamber by covering the ends of the spun cake with plates equipped with the appropriate fittings for the admission and discharge of the treatment fluid under variable pressure and speed of flow. These plates may be subject to the influence of adjustable loading, which, during and after the treatment, ensures fluid-tight contact of the ends of the spun cakes with the plates, and does not impair the stability of the spun cake.
One constructional example of means for carrying out the process is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. p
In this drawing, the spun cake lis covered at its ends by plates 2 and 3. The plate 2 for instance is provided with an aperture 4 for the admission of the treatment fluid, and with an adjustable outlet 5 for the said fluid, while the upper plate 3 is variably loaded by means of adjustable springs 6.
It will be immediately obvious that in this Way a completely uniform action of the treatment fluid upon the threads is obtained and that the cake is free to change its form as necessary. These threads, after the drying, can immediately be rinsed from the treated spun cake.
The means illustrated by way of example admit of being employed in a great variety of ways. The plates 2 and 3 may be employed for a plurality of spun cakes arranged side by side. It is also possible to arrange the spun cakes in vertical stacks.
If the spun cakes are stacked in a horizontal layer they may also rest upon a belt conveyor, which carries them to the individual treatment positions determined by the plates 2 and 3, from the spinning mill right to the drying chamber.
What I claim is An apparatus for the after-treatment of artificial silk obtained in the form of a spun cake by the spinning pot process, comprising a plate for each end of the cake, adjustable loading devices for the plates adapted to hold the plates in fluid-tight contact with the ends of the spun cake, means. on the plates for the admission of liquids used in the treatment, an adjustable outlet for the liquids provided in one of the plates.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
OTTO SCHWARZKOPF.
