Description

UNITED STATES PATENT JOSEPH HATZL, OF SPADES, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 190,214, dated May 1, 1877 application tiled April 2, 1877.
To all whom it may concern: A
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HATZL, of Spades, in the county of Ripley and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures l and 2 represent respectively a detail side view and a top View of my improved sashholder. Fig. 3 is a front view of the sash, with the sash-holders attached; and Figs. 4 and 5 are vertical transverse and a horizontal section of the same, respectively, on line w and y y, Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention is intended to provide an improved sashholder and lock of simple and convenient construction, by the use of which the sash may be readily raised or lowered, or taken out of the casing for cleaning, as required.
The invention consists of a sash with sliding and spring-acted bolts entering between guide-strips of the Window-casing, and into sockets of the same, the sash-bolts being secured into the different positions required for locking, guiding, or removing the sash, by being set into corresponding recesses 0f the face-plates o f the bolt-sockets, as hereinafter more fully set forth and definitely claimed.
In the drawing, A represents a windowsash, A the Window-casing, and B the bolts by which the sash is guided and locked. The bolts B slide in guide-sockets B, that are secured into mortises of the sash, and arranged with recesses a a, a, as shown in Fig. l, into which the operating arm or handle B of the bolt is seated. The sash is preferably' provided with two sash-bolts at each side, one near the upper and the other near the lower part of the same. These bolts may be drawn back and secured in this position by setting the handles in the rearmost recess, or they may be set so as to project into longitudinal grooves D of the window-casing, or they may be thrown forward still more, so as to enter socket-holes b, provided at suitable distances in the groove D.
The sash may, according to the position of the bolts specified, be either readily removed from the window-casing for being cleaned, or raised, or lowered, or locked at any suitable height, the groove and holes serving to guide and lock the sash in any required position. One or more of the sash-bolts may be provided with a spiral spring, by which the bolts may be thrown into the socket-holes, so as to necessitate the use of one hand only in raising and lowering the sash.
'Ihe sash may be used with the common balance weights and cords, in which case the bolts serve merely for the purpose of guiding the sash, while the socket-holes may be dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a sash, having slid ing and adjustable guide and lock bolts B, with a longitudinal groove, D, of the windowcasing, having socket-holes b at suitable distances apart, substantially in the manner shown and specified.
2. The combination of the guide-socket G of the sash-holder, having face-plate with recesses a a a, with the sliding guide and lockbolt B, having handle B fitting into the recesses to retain the bolt in drawnback position, or when thrown into the guide-groove, substantially in the manner specified.
JOSEPH HATZL.
