Kiinig & Ebhardt, Hanover, Germany Application April 9, 1931, Serial No. 52 ,911 In Germany April 10, 1930 8 Claims. (01. 129-1) The present invention relates to combined ledger files and loose-leaf books.
The object of the invention consists in combining the advantages of both these articles by the 5 provision of an assembly of accountleaves, in book form, which. may be visible when the book is open, with two sets of hinged double flaps which can be erected or folded fiat and which release the account leaves when erected and secure them when folded flat. A further object is to provide a movable back portion comprising fixed or loose impaling devices operating automatically to produce the desired results.
The invention will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings,
in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the book or file in upright position,
Fig. 2 is a top view showing an account or ledger card having perforations therein according to the invention,
hinge member or cover support of Fig. 7,
Fig. 9 is a partial side View of the book of Fig. '7
in the upright position,
Fig. 10 is a partial side view of the book in the flat position, and
Fig. 11 is a partial side view of the book in the upright position when folded together.
The invention consists of a book-like arrangement comprising two pairs (1 and b, of cover flaps. Each pair of cover flaps comprises an inner cover flap 4 and an outer cover flap 2, the outer flap cover 2 and the inner flap cover A of each pair being connected by hinges or folds l, and the inner flap covers 4 of the two pairs being connected at their lower ends by hinges or folds I to a back portion I having positioning rods 3 or the like arranged close to the back. These rods 3 are suitably secured on the portion '1 and are merely for the purpose of positioning the sheets or cards 6 in the book and such sheets merely rest on the rods.
The lower edges of the are suitably secured to the back portion 1.
The
leaves or cards 6 (Fig.2) have perforations 8 for I a the impaling pins or the like and such perforations may be so arranged as to correspond to the different arrangements of the impaling pins, as
in Figs. 3 to 6.
In use, the closed book is placed on its back and bydrawing out the outer flaps 2 into-the position shown in Fig, 1 the impaling means 5 are withdrawn from the leaves 6 and such leaves are then free to be arranged in any desired manner on the rods 3. The rods 3 are engaged by selected notches on the leaves or cards 6 (Fig. 2). Conversely, by folding the flaps together, the impaling pins 5 or the like pass through the inner flaps 4, and perforations 8 of the leaves to thus hold them fast. Owing to the arrangement of the perforations 8 of the leaves or cards 6 it is possible to secure them by means of two or more impaling pins or tubes. The outer cover when the device is closed forms a protective envelope for the same, and when the device is open it forms a supporting base (Fig. 1).
According to the modification shown in Figs. 7-11, the device has two outer covers each in the form of a double flap I i hinged at IT and to which a box-shaped bottom member 2 is connected. Also two inner flaps l2 are provided which are hinged at their lower edges to the bottom member a as clearly shown in Fig. 9. In
one inner flap i2 a plate i3 is cut out therefrom and. is hinged to the flap by its upper edge, and has on its lower edge a hinged strip 22 provided with the impaling pins G5 or the like. The sides of the bottom member have suitable holes or perforations is for the passage of these pins. To hold the flaps in erected position each inner flap I2 has an angle latch 98 thereon adapted to engage the upper edge of the upper part of the double flap H, which is folded partly under the inner flap !2 for this purpose, as shown in Fig. 9.
The device can thus be used as a flat lying book with inserted impaling pins (Fig. 10) and in erect form with the impaling pins withdrawn, as a ledger file (Fig. 9). In folded form the outer flaps lie outside of the inner flaps and thus lock the impaling pins on the hinged plate l3 of the inner flap.
The opening a: left by the hinged plate I 3 facilitates the guiding of the impaling pins into the holes of the bottom member 2.
Either modification illustrated and described may be provided with impaling devices of any kind, number, length, and arrangement, either on the right or the left hand flaps.
I claim as my invention:
1. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book comprising a back portion, a pair of hinged inner cover flaps, a pair of outer cover flaps hinged at one side to the inner cover flaps, and impaling means on at least one outer cover flap on the inner side for filing and holding theleaves in the book, said means being hingedly joined to the outer cover flap.
2. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book ao ccrding to claim 1, in which means are provided on the inner side of the back portion to arrange the ledger leaves in step-like fashion.
3. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book-comprising a pair of inner cover flaps. a pair of outer cover flaps, a hinge portion for each inner and outer cover flap, and a plurality of impaling pins secured to at least one outer flap for holding the leaves in the book.
4. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book according to claim 3, in which a hinged strip is provided on each outer cover flap at the front edge thereof to which the impaling pins are secured.
5. A- visible loose-leaf ledger and file book comprising a pair of inner cover'fl'aps, an outer cover flap on each inner cover flap, a plurality of impaling means mounted on at least one of the inner flaps for filing and holding the leaves in the book, and an angle latch on each inner cover flap to receive its outer cover flap to hold the book in open position.
6. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book according to claim 1 in which a pair of back covers are provided for the book which are hinged to the back portion.
7. A visible loose-leaf ledger and file book comprising & pair of inner cover. flaps}, hinge means for said cover flaps, a pair of outer cover flaps for the book, which are associated with the inner cover flaps to hold said inner cover flaps in upstanding position when the book is in open position, and impaling means on at least one cover flap tor'fil' ing' and holding the leaves in the book.
8. A loose-leaf ledger and file book comprising a. back. portion, and a pair of cover flaps hinged to the back portion and each cover flap hinged intermediate its ends so that it can be folded up as a double flap, the outer end of one cover flap havingimp'aling pins thereon which are adapted when the cover flap is folded together to be in serted into and through the adjacent part of the backportion in order to securely hold the leaves in the book.
