'Ifhis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable holding devices for stove pipes.

. The primary object of the invention is to provide an adjustable holding device for stove pipes wherein the pipe is effectively held and anchored in a wall flue and readily detachable or removable therefrom.

. Afurther object of the invention is toprovide an adjustable holding device of the foregoing character wherein the holding device comprises cooperating relatively adjustable members adapted for clamping engagement with flue walls of different thicknesses to adapt the device for substantially universal mounting. With the above and other objects that'will become apparentas the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement; of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings. and claimed.

Referring more in detailtothe accompanying particularly to Figures 1 to 6, there I pipe and chimney or flue wall adapted for rigidly anchoring a stove pipein a line opening. The reference character 21 designates a section of a stove pipe having one end thereof extending through a flue collar 22 in a flue opening in a chimney wall 27 and also through a flue collar 28. The adjustable holding device for the stove pipe 21 is shown in detail in Figures 3 to-5 and includes a pair of blade- like strap members 25 and 26 hingedly connected together by means of a tongue 25 on one end of the strap member 25 that forms a barrel portion of a hinge when extended through the opening 26* in the adjacent end .of the strap member 26, The outer free end of the strap member 26 is bent at right angles as at 36 to provide a clamping arm.

The strap member 25 is longitudinally slotted as at 37 over the major length thereof and the sidewalls of the slot'are bordered by upstanding parallel flanges 38. The outerfree end of the strap member 25 is bent atright angles as at 39 to provide a hand grip for manually shifting the connectedstrap members.

'A clamping device is associated with the strap member 25 and, as shown in detail in-Figure 4,

comprises .a top wall '24 carrying depending side flanges 29 that are adapted to ,straddle the upstanding flanges 38 on thestrap member 25 to be guided thereby when "the clamping member is slidably shifted on the strap member. Each end of the top wall 24 of the clamping member is bent upwardly at right angles as at 30, one of which angle ends cooperates with the clamping ,arm 36 for retaining the stove pipe rigidly mounted with-' in the flue opening, while the other angle end 30 constitutes a hand grip to facilitate adjustment of the clamping member.

A screw bolt 40 is passed through an opening in the stove pipe 21 with the enlarged head 40 thereof engaged with the inner face of the stove pipe, the screw bolt 40 extending through the slotted opening 37 in the strap member and also through the longitudinal slot 24 in the top wall her '7 being bent thereof. The strap, members 1 member 24 is engaged with the flue ring 28. In this position, the ring nut 23 holds the clamping member 24 bindingly engaged with the strap member 25 so that the parts are relatively immovable. It will also be noted from an inspection of Figure 1 that the hinged connection 25* 26' between the strap members 25 and 26 is located inwardly of the opensides of the flue opening. When it is desired to remove the stove pipe 21 from the flue opening, for purposes of repair, cleaning or the like, it is only necessary to release the thumb nut 23, slightly'shift the clamping member 24 to spacethe same from the flue collar 28, and engage the outer angle end 39 of the strap member 25 for projecting the latter through the flue collar 22'. The sliding movement of the strap member ,25 locates the hinge connection 25-----26 betweeen the strap members 25 and 26 at the inner side of the flue opening and beyond the inner end of the stove pipe and at'which time the strap member 26 drops downwardly on its hinge mounting as shown in Figure 2. The stove pipe 21 with the holding'device is then easily removed from the flue opening.

In the form of invention in Figures 7 to' 11, the hingedly connected strap members of the stove pipe holding device are disposed interiorly of the stove pipe, while'the clamping. member associated therewith is disposed exteriorly of the pipe. The stove pipe 9' is set into a flue opening in which a flue collar 10' is mounted and the stove pipe 9 is'supp'orted Within the collar 10' by means of spacer rings 19 and 20, the stove pipe also passing through a flue collar 15. The holding device comprises a pair'ofbladelike strap members 1 and '7 having a hinged connection therebetween similar to the form of hingedly connected strap members shown in Figures 3 and 5,'the outer end of the strap mernat right angles as at 17 to provide'a clamping arm. The strap member 1' has depending side flanges 30 and a series of spaced openings 31 extending longitudinally and "7" are lo:- cated interiorly of the stove pipe 9:-

The clamping member forming part of the holding device is arrangedexteriorly of the stove pipe and as shown in Figure 10- comprises a top wall 1 1 longitudinally slotted as at 12' and further provided with depending side and outer end flanges 13, theinner end of the top wall'll' being 'angularly bent as at 14 ina direction opposite the flanges 13'. A screw bolt 4 is passed adapted to through a selected opening 31' in the strap member 1' and the head thereof is engaged with said strap member as shown in Figure 9, the bolt paming through an opening, in the stove pipe 9? and also through a nut 6' at the outer side of' the pipe 9 confined within the clamping member 11. The threaded end of the bolt4' projects through the slotted opening 12? in the clamping for the reception of a thumb nut 16.

From an-inspection ofFijgure"! it will be noted that the stove pipe 9 is-sodisposed as to locate the adjustable holding device thereof with the clamping arm 17' engaged with the wall of the chimney at the inner side of the flue opening while the angle end 14 of the clamping member-is engaged with the flue collar 15'.

When it is desired to remove the stove pipe 9' from the flue opening,'the thumb nut 16' is 1005- ened, the clamping member shifted a short distance to space the angle end 14 thereoff rom an arc to dispose the upper side thereof.
