Description
C. ARNOLD Feb. 5, 1935.
FLOATING TOY WITH DEVICE- FOR FIRING PROJEGTILES OR ROCKETS WH'ILST FLOATING Filed Feb. 16', 1934 Jiwezaior:
Patented Feta 5, 1935 STAES PAT 3?; @FFICE- PROJECTILES 0R FLOATING ROCKETS WHKLST Carl Arnold, Nuremberg, Germany Application February 16, 1934, Serial No. 711,579 In Germany December 19, 1933 2 Claims. (Cl. 46-37) This invention relates to a striker bolt device mounted for example in a toy ship and adapted to fire projectiles, rockets or the like whilst the ship is floating. The operation of the striker bolt device is effected by the spring of the clockwork mechanism propelling the ship.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:--- Fig. -1 shows a. ship in part longitudinal sec tion.
Fig. 2 is a part top plan view of Fig. 1.
In a ships hull a a clockwork mechanism 12' is mounted which propels the ship. On the top of the clockwork b a lever c acted upon by a spring d is pivotally mounted on a pin f and provided with a bridge 1' extending downwards and adapted to be shifted by the clockwork spring p. A bracket g is fixed on the underside of the deck of the ship and carries a rotatable bolt h on which a striker bolt i acted upon by a spring s and a cam k is arranged. A turret Z closed by a cover t is mounted on the deck and carries a gun barrel m. This barrel m-has on its rear end a cup n having an aperture and adapted to accommodate a percussion cap 0.
The device operates in the following manner:--
During the winding of the clockwork the spring p contracts, thereby shifting the pivotally mounted lever c. The cover t of the turret l is then opened and the striker bolt 1' and cam is are pushed down by hand against the action of the spring 8. The cam it engages under the lever c and thus locks the striker bolt 2'. A percussion cap 0 is then placed in the cup n and a projectile u, rocket or the like is introduced into the barrel m. The ship is then placed in the water and is propelled several meters by the spring 10. As this spring p expands, the pivotally mounted lever c is swung on its pin I, thereby releasing the cam is, whereupon this cam and the striker bolt i are precipitated into their initial positions by the spring s so that the bolt strikes against the percussion cap 0. Thisignites and the fire thus produced passes through the aperture in the cup and ignites the charge of the projecti e u, rocket or the like situated in the barrel m. The combustion gases issuing from the projectile propel the same out of the barrel with a loud detonation. The ship continues to travel during this procedure.
I claim:
1. A floating or similar toy, comprising in combination a ships hull having a deck, a clockwork mechanism arranged in said hull and including a spring adapted to propel the toy, a lever pivotally mounted on the upper side of said clockwork, an element on said lever engaging said spring to oscillate said lever during the expansion of said spring, a bracket on the underside of the deck, a striker bolt pivotally mounted in said bracket, acspring tending to force said striker bolt away from said lever, means for locking said striker bolt in engagement with said lever against the action of said last mentioned spring, a. turret mounted on said deck,a gun barjrel in said turret within therange of movement of said striker bolt, a cup on the inner end of said barrel having an aperture and adapted to accommodate a percussion cap adapted to be fired by 'the movement of said striker bolt under the action of its spring, and a projectile adapted to be inserted into said barrel and having a charge adapted to be ignited by the firing of said percussion cap to propel said projectile from said barrel with a loud detonation by the gases resulting from the combustion.
2. In a floating toy as specified in claim 1 the means for locking the striker bolt, comprising in combination with the lever and the bolt, an axle carrying said bolt, and a cam on said axle adapt ed to be engaged and locked by said lever when the bolt is pressed downward by hand.
CARL ARNOLD.
