Figure 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view With the cover in open position, the tensioned false bottom in its lower position and illustrating by dotted lines the link and lever deupper ends of the Side walls 13 of the body portion vices for controlling operation of the false botfor guiding the cigarettes in their upward move 50 tom ment and holding them separated from each Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view, similar th t facilitate removal,
to ure 4, showing the tensioned a se ot om To restrain the false bottom 21 from upward in its elevated position with the cigarettes promovement against the tension of the springs 26 jected above the open upper end of the case; and and to hold the cigarettes C entirely confined 55 within the case, there is provided, as shown more clearly in Figures 4 and 5, a pair of links 31 and 32 pivoted together as at 33, the lower end of the link 32 being pivotally connected as at 34 to one side of the false bottom 21 intermediate its ends and in line with the slotted opening 24 which facilitates access to the pivot connection 34 while the upper free end of the link 31 is pivotally connected as at 35 to a cross strip 36 secured to a side wall 13 of the casing adjacent its upper end. A slide lever 37 extends through a side opening in the end wall 14 of the case and has its inner end pivotally attached to the connection 33 between the links 31 and 32 and the other end thereof projecting outwardly of the case provided with a bent finger grip 38 as shown more clearly in Figures 1 to 3. The links 31 and 32 are of a length when extended to permit movement of the pivot connection 33 beyond dead center as shown by dotted lines in Figure 4, this movement being limited by the finger grip 38 moving into engagement with the end wall 14 of the case and when the lever and links are so disposed, upward movement of the false bottom 21 under influence of the springs 26 is prevented.
In the use of the cigarette dispensing case, the cover 16 is first opened against the tension of the spring arm 18 and when opened is so retained by said spring arm as shown in Figures 4 and 5. The slide lever 37 is then operated to be moved outwardly of the body portion of the case and to dispose the pivot connection 33 between the links 31 and 32 at the opposite side of dead center, such positioning permitting functioning of the springs 26 for the raising of the false bottom 21 and the projection'of the cigarettes C to the dotted line positions shown in Figure and at which time they may be readily removed from the case.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent and while there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:-
1. In a cigarette dispensing case, a body and a supporting base, a false bottom vertically movable in the lower end of the body, spring members carried by the supporting base and engaged with the false bottom for normally influencing the same in an upward direction, and link and lever devices disposed above the false bottom and including a pair of links respectively attached at their outer ends to the false bottom and body adjacent its upper end for holding the false bottom at its limit of downward movement and operative to release the false bottom to permit upward projection thereof by the spring members.
2. In a cigarette dispensing case, a body and a supporting base, a false bottom vertically movable in the lower end of the body, spring members carried by the supporting base and engaged with the false bottom for normally influencing the same in an upward direction, and link and lever devices disposed above the false bottom and body and associated therewith for holding the false bottom at its limit of downward movement and operative to release the false bottom to permit upward projection thereof by the spring members, the link and lever devices including a pair of pivotally connected links with the outer ends thereof respectively connected to the false bottom and upper end of the body, a slide lever extending through a side wall of the body and attached at its inner end to the pivotal connection between the links and a finger grip on the outer end of the slide lever for engagement with the body to limit inward movement of the slide lever.
3. In a cigarette dispensing case, a body and a supporting base, a false bottom vertically movable in the lower end of hers carried by the supporting base and engaged with the false bottom for normally influencing the same in an upward direction, and link and lever devices disposed above the false bottom and body false bottom at its limit of downward movement and operative to release the false bottom to permit upward projection thereof by the spring members, the link and lever devices including a pair of pivotally connected links with the outer ends thereof respectively connected to the false bottom and upper end of the body, a slide lever extending through a side wall of the body and attached at its inner end to the pivotal connection between the links, a finger grip on the outer end of the slide lever for engagement with the body to limit inward movement of the slide lever, and said lever and "links being of lengths to per- :nit movement of the pivotal connection between the links beyond a dead center for holding the false bottom in its lowered position with the latter acting to hold the lever and links in said position.
