With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, whereinz Figure 1 is a vertical View of the device with parts broken away.

In the dispensing of gasolina and the like one of the difficulties encountered is that foreign substances, such as portions of rubber from the interior of the service hose, fabric from the interior of the service hose, sediment, and heavy semi-fluid material, pass into the customer's gasoline tank. It is obvious that in order to have dependable fuel in the form of gasoline the product should be delivered into the customer's tank free from all of these foreign substances and in a condition which provides for a free flow of the gasoline. It is very important that gas used in internal combustion engines, such as are used in automobiles, should be free from these objectional elements. It is also obvious that fuel for engines providing power for airplanes and the like should be dependable.
It is understood that this device may be installed upon a gasolina service hose at any point in the hose. It is, however, desirable to install the same at the extreme outlet and next to the i 5 i 2 Claims. These' lug bolts 6 carry a bridge member 7. In order that the bridge member 7 may-be held in spaced relation with the upper end cap member 2 there is provided a sleeve member 8 for each of the lug bolts 6. It will also be seen that there is provided a porous member 9 preferably formed of stone. This porous member 9 has a central opening 10. This porous member 9 acts as a filter. It will beseen that the porous member 9 is provided with reduced ends 11 similar in form so that the same may be reversed in' the operation of cleansing the filter.
It will be seen that there is an upper cap 12 fitting over the upper reduced end 11. This upper cap 12 is provided with a gasket 13 which fits between the extreme upper edge of the upper reduced end 11 and the under side of the upper cap 12. The upper cap 12 is provided with a downwardly extending peripheral flange 14 which fits snugly around the outer circumference of the upper reduced end 11.
By referring to Figures 2 and 4 of the drawing it will be seen that the upper cap 12 is provided with a plurality of extended lugs 15, each provided with an opening 16 for the reception of a plurality of bolts 17. These bolts 17 have lower ends threaded to alower cap portion 18. This lower cap portion 18 is provided with a circumferal flange 19 and a circular channel member 20. This circular channel member 20 fits around the lower 'educed end 11. It will be seen that the plurality of bolts 17, when turned down tight, holds the lower cap portion 18 against the extreme lower end of the reduced end 11. 'In order to form a tight joint there is provided a gasket 21. In order to hold the lower cap portion' 18 and the upper cap member 2 in a secured position in relation to the casing 1 there is provided a tension lug 22 which passes through an opening 23 of the bridge member '7 and a centrally threaded opening 24 in the upper cap 12. It will be seen that when this tension lug 22 is turned down, the upper end cap member 2 and the lower cap portion 18 are held securely against the ends of the casing 1. It will be seen that the upper end cap member 2 is provided with a gasket 5 while the lower cap portion 18 is provided with a gasket 25. It will be seen that the porous member 9 is encased within a mesh screen 26. (See Fig. 2.)
In Operating the device the gasoline or fluid to be filtered flows in through the central threaded opening 3 where it flows down between the interior of the casing 1 and the mesh screen 26. The fluid passes through the screen 26 into the porous member 9, into the central opening 10, and down through the device into a nozzle 27.
It will be seen that the exterior of the porous member 9 is formed with a fiuted spiral member in order to facilitate in the passage'of the fluid to be filtered through the porous member 9.
-What we claim is:-
1. In a filter device, a casing, a porous member positioned within said casing, an upper cap inclosing the upper end of said porous member, a
central opening within said porous member, a lower cap portion fitting on lower end of said porous member and enclosing the lower end of said casing, a central opening in said lower cap portion, an upper cap member inclosing the upper end of said casing, a pair of lug bolts carried on under side of said upper cap member, a bridge member carried by said lug bolts, and a tension lug passing through said bridge member and threaded into said upper cap for the purpose of holding the lower cap portion and the upper cap member in a secure position in relation to the casing, a plurality of bolts for the purpose of holding said upper cap and said lower cap portion securely against the ends of said porous member.
2. In a device of the class described, a casing, a porous stone member positioned within said casing, a central opening within said porous stone member, a screen surrounding said porous stone member, an upper cap inclosing the upper end of said porous stone member, a lower cap portion fitting on lower end of said porous stone member and inclosing the lower` end of said casing, a central opening in said lower cap portion, an upper cap member inclosing the upper end of said casing, a pair of lug bolts carried on under side of said upper cap member, a, bridge member carried by said lug bolts, and a tension lug passing through said bridge member and threaded into said upper cap for the purpose of holding the lower cap portion and the upper cap member in a secure position in relationto the casing, a
plurality of bolts for the purpose of holding said upper cap and said lower cap portion securely against the ends of said porous member.
