2 Claims.
This invention-rclates-to a detachable initial and insignia carrying device for braces.
One object of the present invention is to provide an initial and insignia device for application to suspenders or braces which includes a band having detachable ends and a metal plate mounted thereon against the outer face thereof and having an initial panel or portion and carry ing means whereby to mount the plate on the 1 band.
Another object of the present invention is to provide for braces having shoulder straps with looped front portions to receive the suspender ends a detachable initial and insignia device'including a loop of flexible material extending transversely around the looped portion of "the sh'oulderstraps forholding the same together and to prevent the looped portions from spreading and-whic'h-is-adapted'to be applied to andremoved from said looped portions to enable the desired initial insigniadevice to be applied to the bracesr A' still further object' or the invention is to provide adetachable initial insignia device adapted to be supplied to dealers on a card or otherwise and capable ofbeing readily-snapped on or otherwise securedto a brace whenthe sale is made so that the required "initial may be supplied to a brace Without a dealer carrying an unreasonable amount of braces in stock in order to supply the necessary device as the races are sold.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination 'and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction, Within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without cleparting from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure l is an elevation of a brace provided with detachable initial devices constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail elevation of one of the initial devices and a portion of the shoulder strap on which the device is arranged.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal sectional View on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the detachable, insignia or like devices, looking toward the: rear. thereof and illustrating the ends otthe fiexible'material of the initial device bandseparated.
Fig; 6 is'an elevation ofla portion of a brace showing a modified form of the invention.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view on the line '77 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a rear perspective View of said 'modi fication.
Fig. 9 is a-rear perspective View of another modified form of the invention.
Fig. 10 is a rear perspective View of still another modified form of the invention.
Fig. 11 is a sectional view on the line ll--ll of Fig. 10.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the reference character 1 indicates a brace of common construction provided with shoulder straps 2 having their front portions 3 looped toreceive the Suspender ends 4. The looped portions 3 of the shoulder straps are adjustable in the usual manner by a clasp 5 or a similar fastening meanssuch as a buckle, to vary the length of the looped portion and foradjusting the braces to the required length to suit-the wearer.
The essence ofsthe present invention goes to an initial and insignia device for application to the braces and-which, in the present instance, is illustrated as comprising a band 6 of flexible material and a metallic member A mounted on the band intermediate the ends of the latter, the ends 7 and 8 of the band 6 being adapted, in one embodiment of the invention, to be fastened together by snap fastener members 9 and 10 secured to the ends of the flexible band material. Other fastening means for the ends of the bands 6 may be employed and the flexible material of which the band is composed may correspond in color with the material of the shoulder straps in order that the parts of the brace may present an ornamental, harmonious and attractive appearance.
The band 6 is designed to rather tightly embrace the looped or overlapped portions of the shoulder strap and frictionally engage the same so that it will remain in proper position between the clasp 5 and the suspended ends. In the present instance, the band 6 may be positioned on the shoulder straps otherwise than at the folded or overlapped portions between the clasp 5 and the suspended ends but no matter where located the band 6 is adapted to have sliding engagement with the brace.
The metallic member A which is associated with the band 6 preferably consists of a panel portion 11 including a border 12 preferably of highly ornamental gold-like appearance and surrounding a colored background, say for instance, a background of green color and on which background and spaced from the border or in other words arranged substantially centrally of the background is an initial letter, in this instance, the letter H, as indicated at 13. The background may be brown or any other color adapted particularly to harmonize with the general color of the brace, but the border 12 and initial is preferably of a brilliant gold or silver color to render it conspicuous and highly ornamental, giving a rather pleasing and attractive additional esthetic effect to the braces. The initial 13 has a raised effect with relation to the background and the background has a depression effect with relation to the border 12.
This plate A is disposed against the outer face of the band preferably intermediate the ends thereof and it is slidably mounted on the band for movement thereon but held preferably frictionally, though not necessarily, on the band between the ends of the latter. One method of maintaining the metal plate A on the band 6 is to provide the plate at its upper and lower edges with flanges 14 and 15, respectively, which flanges are pliable and readily bendable over the upper and lower edges of the band against the inner face of the band. If desired, these flanges l4 and 15 may be clamped tightly against the inner face of the band so as to prevent the aforesaid frictional sliding engagement of the plate A with the band 6. e
In another embodiment of the invention the plate A may have sets of prongs l6 and 17 which may pierce the band 6' and be clinched against the rear face of the latter whereby to immovably secure the plate or panel to the band 6.
In another embodiment of the invention the plate, as shown at A may completely embrace the band 6 being made of a single suitable piece of pliable metal or other suitable material with one edge, as at 18, provided with a tongue 19, adapted to be bent over onto the rear face of the plate A In another embodiment of the invention, similar to the modified form of the invention, just alluded to, one of the edge flanges 20 may be provided with a slot 21 to receive a tongue 22 projecting from the respective end of the back of the plate 6 It will thus be understood that the metallic plate part of the initial and insignia device may be secured on the band part of the initial and insignia device in various ways and it will be understood that while the initial and insignia plate or panel has frictional sliding movement on the band that it may be secured immovably on the band if desired.
Insignia of various organizations may be employed on the plates on the panels instead of initials of individuals.
The devices may be applied directly to the braces before sales are made and a selection may be made from the stock to obtain the braces having the desired ornamentation. If preferred the devices may be supplied separate from the suspenders to enable a dealer to apply desired devices to the braces upon effecting sales tocustomers.
What is claimed is:-
1. A device of the character described comprising a flexible band and a metal plate disposed against the outer face of the band and having oppositely disposed portions bent over the upper and lower edges of the band against the inner face of the band to hold the plate on the band, the ends of the band being foldable into overlapping relation at the rear of the plate and detachably secured together to form a loop with said oppositely disposed bent portions of the plate disposed within the loop when the ends of the band are connected together.
2. A device of the character described comprising a flexible band and a metallic member mounted on the band intermediate the ends of the latter, said member carrying an initial or the like and also provided with a holding portion extending to the inner face of the band, the ends of the band being foldable into overlapping relation and detachably secured together at the rear of said holding portion of the metallic member.
