This invention relates to a money delivering device in which the members, controlling the choice of the different sorts of coins and the counting of the coin-units, are controlled by perforated cards and consists in the provision of a common operating member for rendering operative the card-feelers and the coin-disbursement device. In view thereof the construction of the machine is considerably simplified and its service is a simple matter, so that the efficiency of the machine is increased.
In the present invention it is quite immaterial whether perforated cards or strips are used for controlling the coin delivering device. Of course 16 the perforated cards or strips may be replaced by equivalent arrangement such as registration cards, plates and the like. Further the system according to which the perforations or holes or registration-points of the cards or thelike are arranged is quite immaterial for the present in vention. In the constructional example hereinafter described a perforated card is used in which each numerical value is represented by a corresponding number of successive holes arranged in a row.
The device according to the present invention is illustrated by way of example on the accompanying sheets of drawings in which:-

Groups of feelers 2, corresponding in number to the kinds of coins to be paidout, are arranged in a casing 1. Each group of feelers, accorded to a certain sort of coins, comprises nine pins. Springs 3, arranged on the feelers, force the latter towards a movable plate 4, which is provided with holes. By means of a pin '7, sliding in an angular slot 6 of a lever 5, it is possible-to move the plate 4 parallel to itself. A second plate 8,
provided with holes, is secured opposite the plate 5 4. The top end of both plates are bent outward and thus provide on the casing 1 a funnel 27 for I the insertion of the card. The feelers are angularly disposed in such a manner, that their ends at the right hand side limit the path of movement The latter consistsof a lever, which is provided with a longitudinal slot and is rotatable and slidable on a pin 10, fixed to an operating lever 11. A spring 12 has the tendency to retain the pin 10 in the bottom end of the longitudinal slot. Further the ejector 9 is secured to a lever 13, which in conjunction with a lever 14 fixed to the casing forms a toggle lever. A lever 15, secured to the pivot of the latter, is provided with a slotted end through which passes a pin 16, fixed to the operating lever 11. A spring 17 has the tendency to turn clockwise the operating lever 11 about its pivot 18 to such an extent as it is admitted by the recess 19 of the casing 1. A slotted plate 20, which forms a rest for the coins accumulated in the tube 21, is arranged opposite the hammer-shaped top end of the coin-ejector 9 (Fig. 2). A sleeve 22 slides on the tube 21 and rests on the top edge of the coin-ejector. A funnel 23 is located opposite the latter and in conjunction with the corresponding funnels for other sorts of coins terminates in a collecting funnel 24, underneath of which is placed for instance a wage-bag.
The device operates in the following manner:-
The perforated card 26 is inserted in a reversed position through the card-insertion 2'7 into the casing 1 until its top ,end (which now faces downward) rests on the partition of the casing. In this position the holes of the card are disposed opposite the feelers 2. For instance if, according to the card shown in Fig. 3, the sum of $26.23 is to be paid out and if the group of feelers shown in the drawings serves for selecting the dollar-units, the six holes in the card will be disposed opposite the bottommost feelers 2. Now the operator depresses the operating lever 11. Thereby also the lever 5 moves downward and finally, in view of the angular slot 6, the pin 7 and thus the plate 4 are shifted to the left hand side. The plate 4 releases the feelers 2 so that, by the action of the springs 3, the latter moves towards the card and at the places where they find holes in the card the feelers pass through the same. feelers pass throughthe card, while the three top feelers rest on the card. During the further operation of the lever 11, the coin-ejector is lifted by way of the spring 12 so far as it is admitted by the six feelers, which have been withdrawn from its path of movement. The coinejector is stopped by the seventh feeler. During the last phase of motion of the lever 11, the pin 1.6 co-operates with the top end of the slot in the lever 15 and forces upward the joint of the two levers 13 and 14. Thereby the coin-ejector 9 rotates about the pin 10 and presses the oppositely lying coins into the funnel 23. After this operation is terminated, the operator releases the lever 11 and the latter is returned into the initial position by the spring 1'7. Thereby at In the present case the six bottom the coins.
first the coin-ejector is moved downward so that the coins in the tube 21 can slide down until they are stopped by the plate 20, whereby, owing to its own weight, the sleeve 22 participates on the downward movement of the coin-ejector, so that the coins are protected against an accidental drop into the funnel-23. Now the joint of the toggle lever 13, 14 is again stretched by the pin 16 and the coin-ejector returns into the initial position. During the last phase of operation the plate 4 is again shifted to the right side and thereby the feelers are forced out of the perforated card and the latter can be removed by the operator. Of course also automatically operating feeding means as they are generally known in connection with perforated card machines can be used for inserting and removing the cards.
The mechanically operated arrangement as described can be replaced either wholly or in part by suitable electric devices or an electromotor or another source of power maybe used for operating the machine, whereby, in place of the mechanical member for operating the feeler-and disbursement arrangement, any equivalent electric arrangement may be employed, for instance a switch or the like.
A further construction of the present inven- 'tion may consist in making dependent the operation of the operating member on the insertion of the card in. front of the feelers. This object may be attained for instance by providing a separate feeler, which is changed in its position of rest, whenever a card is disposed in the feeling position opposite the feelers and thereby renders operative the feeler-and disbursement arrangement.
Fig. '4 illustrates by way ofexample an .electri cally operated machine, which is started by a separate feeler. In case a card 26 is disposed in the machine in the feeling position, the said card co-operates with a lever 28, which is in frictional contact with a contact lever 29 and presses the same onto a contact 30. Thereby a current passes through the magnet 31, whereby the lever 11 moves downward and causes the co-operation of the feelers with they card and the ejection of During the last phase of its downward movement, the extension 32 of the lever 11 strikes against the contact lever 29 and interrupts the contact. In view thereof the magnet 31 becomes currentless and the lever 11 returns into the initial position by the action of the spring 17. Now the card can be removed from the machine, whereby the lever 28 is returned into its initial position by a spring 33. The machine is-now ready for the reception of the next card and the operation can be repeated.
Of course the number of the coin-magazines and groups of feelers depends on the sorts of coins in the machine. In the illustrated construction the feeler would be cranked also in such a way, that their ends at the left hand side are distanced from one another for the distance between the row of holes, while the ends at the right hand side are distanced from one another for the distance between two coin-magazines. However in place of coin-ejectors may be used banknote-disbursement devices of known construction, which control feelers or coinand banknote-disbursement devices may-be combined in a machine according to requirement. Finally the device according to the present invention also for delivering checks or other uniform members may be used in place of coin-units.
I claim:
1. In a card controlled machine, an analyzing device for analyzing a plurality of perforations in a card column, a single coin ejector, and means whereby the coin ejector ejects at a single operation a number of coins corresponding to the number of perforations analyzed in a card column by said device.
2.-A money delivering device controlled by perforated cards comprising in combination, analyzing elementscooperating with the cards, a coin ejector movably arranged and limited in differential extent of movement by a direct mechanical coaction with the analyzing element when only one is projected or with one of the number of analyzing elements projected under control of the card, and-an operating member for causing said elements to analyze the card and formoving the ejector to its differential position.
3. The invention according to claim 2 in which resilient means is provided to shift the ejector to effect the mechanical coaction betweenthe ejector and a projected analyzing element.
4. In a machine of the class described, controlled by perforated cards, the combination with a set of analyzing elements cooperating with the card, of a pivoted coin ejecting mechanism, a reciprocable main operating member having connections for causing said elements to analyze a card and shifting the pivot of the ejecting mechanism until said ejecting mechanism engages an element, means controlled by the operating member to cause the rocking of said ejecting mechanism about its pivot to eject coins in accordance with the analyzing of the card, and means controlled by the manual presentation of the card to the analyzing member to effect an automatic reciprocating operation of the member.
5. The invention according to claim 4 wherein the last named means comprises a switch for controlling a circuit of a solenoid which effects the reciprocation of the operating member.
6. -In a machine of the class described, the combination with a card analyzing mechanism, of a coin ejecting mechanism including a plurality of ejectors for ejecting coins of different values, means whereby the card analyzing mechanism causes each of said ejectors to be positioned differentially to eject a number of coins commensurate in number with the digital value represented in the controlling card column a common operating means for the ejectors, and means whereby the manual presentation of the card to the card analyzing mechanism causes said analyzing mechanism to automatically analyze the card and operate the common operating means to.
shift said ejectors to eject the coins.
7. In a machine of the class described the comcoin ejecting mechanism and operated when the perforations-of the card are in correlation with the analyzing elements.
8. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a coin ejecting mechanism, of a card analyzing mechanism controlling the coin ejecting mechanism, an ,operating member for the coin ejecting mechanism having connections to cause said analyzing mechanism to analyze the card, a member engaged by the card upon the manual presentation of the card to the analyzing mechanism for effecting an automatic operation of the operating member, and means effective while the member is retained continuously in engagement with the card for causing said analyzing mechanism to be subsequently shifted out of engagement with the card to permit manual withdrawal of the card analyzed.
9, In a machine of the class described, the combination with a coin ejecting mechanism, of analyzing means including elements for sensing the card perforations, asolenoid for causing the sensing elements to pass through the card perforations, means including a member engaged by the card effective by the presentation of the card to the analyzing means to' energize said solenoid, and means efiective while the coins are being ejected and while said member is retained continuously in engagement with the card to cause said solenoid to be deenergize'd to permit removal of the card analyzed.
10. In a machine of the class described, a coin ejecting mechanism, a card analyzing mechanism, operating means, a controlling means for the operating means including a member engaged by the card and effective upon the manual introduction of a card for causing said analyzing mechanism to analyze a card to control the coin ejecting mechanism, and means controlled by an element of the coin ejecting mechanism for disabling said operating means and efiective while said member is retained continuously in engagement with the card.
, 11. In a machine of the class described, the combination with an electromotor for operating the main operating device of the machine, a card analyzing mechanism, a coin ejecting mechanism controlled thereby, contacts for controlling the electro-motor, a member engaged by the card, a contact controlling member operatively engaged with said member for closing said contacts by the introduction of the card to the analyzing mechanism, and means wherebythe main operating device subsequently causes the movement of only the contact controlling member to cause said contacts to open.
12. In a machine of the class described the combination with a card analyzing mechanism, of a coin ejecting mechanism controlled thereby, a normally idle prime mover for operating both of said mechanisms, means controlled by the introduction of a card to the analyzing mechanism for rendering said primemover operative from its idle position to effect automatic operation of the card analyzing and ejecting mechanisms and means effective while the card is stationary and in correlation with the analyzing mechanism to cause the prime mover to be rendered inoperative.
13. A money delivering machine comprising a coin ejector, means for effecting a positioning of said ejector in one direction for the ejection of a coin, and an ejector operating means including a toggle for moving said ejector in another direction to eject the coin.
14. In a card controlled machine, a single coin ejector, an analyzing device comprising individual elements, one for each possible perforation, for analyzing a plurality of perforations in a card column, and means whereby said coin ejector under control of the analyzing device ejects by a single. operation one or a plurality of coins corresponding to the number of elements shifted under control of a like number of perforations in a column of a card.
15. In a card controlled machine the combination with a coin ejecting mechanism comprising a plurality of pivoted coin ejectors for ejecting coins of different values, of a card analyzing mechanism, means whereby the card analyzing mechanism causes each of said ejectors to be shifted substantially parallel to the related coin stacks a differential number of units to eject a number of coins in each stack which in the 1 0 aggregate correspond to the value represented by the card analyzed, and common means for rocking the shifted ejectors about their pivots to eject at one operation different coins amounting to the value represented by the controlling card.
16. In a machine of the class described, the combination with an analyzing mechanism for analyzing a perforated card column, of a coin ejector, resilient means whereby said ejector occupies a position controlled by the analyzing 0 mechanism so as to subsequently eject coins commensurate in value with the digit represented by the card column, and operating means for rocking said ejector irrespective of the position it occupies.
