Description

Oct. 9, 1934. T. B. cox
CIRCUIT CONTROLLER Filed June 9, 1955 Inventor .2 flames E. Cox.
I II Patented Oct. 9, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in a circuit controlling device for a battery indicator.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide means in the form of an indicator for mounting adjacent the drivers seat in conjunction with means in a secondary battery, whereby, when desired, the driver can determine whether or not his battery has a safe level of electrolyte therein.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view through one of the plugs, taken substantially on line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 2 represents a side elevational view of one of the plugs.
Figure 3 represents a lower end elevational View of one of the plugs.
Referring to the drawing, wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that in carrying out the present invention, a special type of plug is employed, which is generally referred to by numeral 5. This plug consists of the elongated cylindrical core 6 having an opening '7 extending across the lower end thereof. A vent opening 8 extends longitudinally through this core 6 from the vent 7 to open through the upper end of the core and as is clearly shown in Figure 1, a pair of electrodes of suitable conducting material and denoted by numerals 9-9 are embedded in the core with their lower ends projecting in converging relation into the said cross opening 7, while their upper ends are attached one to a corresponding jumper 10.
The upper end portion of the core 6 is reduced and provided with threads for threaded disposition into the cap 12 which is provided with a depending externally threaded apron 13 which is spaced from the core 6. Suitable packing means 14 is installed between the core at the shoulder 15 and the cap 12 and as is clearly shown in Figure 1, a peripheral portion of the cap 12 is threaded to engage into the internally threaded dielectric cover 16 which has a central opening registering with the vent 8.
The novel plug 5 can be engaged into the usual 60 plug opening of the battery, so that the threads 13 engage into the usual threads in the plug opening.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:-
1. A plug of the character described comprising a threaded cap member, a di-electric core body provided with a reduced threaded portion at one end, said cap being provided with a threaded bore for receiving the reduced threaded end of the core, said core being provided with a vent opening extending longitudinally therethrough, an electrode extending longitudinally through the bore and exposed at the end of the core remote from the threaded end, said reduced and threaded end of the core defining a shoulder, and packing means interposed between the shoulder and the said cap.
2. A plug structure of the character described comprising a cap member provided with a threaded bore therein, a di-electric core member provided with a threaded end for engagement into the said threaded bore of the cap, the threaded end of the core being provided with a reduced extension donning a shoulder, an electrode extending longitudinally through the core and being exposed at one end at the end of the core remote from the threaded end and at its opposite end through the shoulder defined by the reduced end of the core, and a cover for disposition over the reduced end of the core and over the top of the said cap.
