A Claims.

This invention relates to tents, but more particularly to a compact portable tent which can be readily and conveniently erected over a folding cot affording adequate shelter for one or more persons, and provides space suitable for dressing and undressing so that a tourist or camper is supplied with a suitable place to sleep in comfort, and to dress and undress inside of the enclosure. An object is to produce a simple and inexpensive tent of the above character having the new and improved features of construction and arrangement hereinafter described.

The invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure l is a perspective view of the tent and foldable cot;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the tent shown in Figure l; and

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.

The illustrated embodiment of the invention comprises a tent of canvas, or other suitable material, having a body portion A provided with oppositely sloping side walls 19. The outer end of the tent is closed by a pair of flaps l1, and this portion is supported by a pair of oppositely inclined poles 12. Loops 13 at the four corners may be slipped over pegs 14 for holding the side walls 10 sufiiciently taut. The lower ends of the side walls may be connected by a floor piece 15, and extending upwardly from the inner end of the floor 15 is a vertically disposed wall 16, which extends upwardly substantially the height of a folding cot 17. The cot 17 may be of any well known construction having foldable legs 18 and a canvas top 19. Cots of this character are well known to those skilled in this art and detailed description is not considered necessary, it being sufiicient to point out that these cots can be compacted or folded into a relatively small space when not in use. As shown in Figure 2, the upper portion 16 of the vertical wall 16 may be folded inwardly over the top of the cot 17. I

Providing a continuation of a portion of the side walls 10 and having the same ridge is a downwardly and rearwardly inclined extension 20 having oppositely sloping walls 21. The extension terminates substantially at the opposite end of the cot 1'7, and has a vertically disposed end wall 21 the lower end of which may fold underenath the opposite end of the cot. At the rearward end of the extension 20 is an eye 22 toreceive a post 23 in order to elevate this portion of the tent sufliciently above the cot 17.

A guy rope 24 extends from the post 22 to a suitable peg 25 for cooperating with a guy rope 26 leading from the outer end of'the ten to a peg 27 to hold the tent taut.

It is preferred that the free side edges of the 0 walls 21 extend beneath the supporting part 19 of the cot, and these portions, which are designated at 28, may be suitably connected by ties 29, snap fasteners, or any other suitable means, for detachably connecting these parts together. 5 In this manner, the bed clothing cannot fall from the cot, and insects, rain, etc., cannot enter that portion of the tent which covers the cot.

From the above description, it will be seen that the body portion A of the tent affords sufficient room so that a person can sit on the forward edge of the cot 17 to dress and undress, and still be within the tent. Furthermore this portion provides suflicient space for a limited amount of personal eifects, such as clothing, or other articles, which it is desired to keep under cover. The space above the cot 17 is sufficient to enable a person to conveniently get in and out of the cot, and the arrangement is such as to afford adequate ventilation. 30

When not in use, the tent can be readily and conveniently dismantled or taken down and compacted into a relatively small bundle so that it can be easily carried. A tent of this character is particularly useful for campers, tourists, Boy Scouts, etc., who desire a simple shelter which can be conveniently carried from place to place, erected, and taken down quickly and without much efiort.

It is to be understood that numerous changes in details of construction, arrangement and choice of materials can be effected without departing from the spirit of the invention, especially as defined in the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;

1. A tent for a cot comprising a body portion having sloping side walls. and an open outer end, means for closing said open end, a vertically disposed wall tending upwardly from the bottom of the tent to approximately the height of the cot, a downwardly and rearwardly sloping portion extending from said side walls for substantially covering the top portion of the cot, and means for securing said sloping portion.

2. A tent for a cot comprising a body portion having sloping side walls and an open outer end, means at the outer end of said body portion for supporting same, means for closing said open end,
