Description

June 12, 1934. MQCK 1,962,748
COMBINATION CANDLE AND HOLDER Filed Jan. 5, 1932 INVENTOR.
Patented June 12, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in candles and has for its object the provision of a novel form of candle with holder combined therewith.
A particular object of this invention is the provision of a candle with an improved form of holder from which the candle cannot be removed and in which the combination of candle and holder will be normally sold as a unit.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved candle and holder.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view partly in section.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
10 indicates the candle, 11 the wick thereof, 12 the candle holder, and 13 the broadened base of the candle.
The candle and wick are of the usual form and material. The holder 12 is preferably made of metal, glass or pottery and should be of sufficient weight so that with the candle therein, the combination candle and holder will not easily tip over and cannot be easily blown over.
It will be obvious that in the form of candle shown with the broadened base integral with the shaft of the candle, the candle cannot be re-' moved from the holder and will always remain in a perfectly upright position.
A preferred method of joining the improved candle and holder to each other is to form the cylindrical portion of the candle with the wick therein in the usual manner by molding or otherwise and then place in the holder molten material of the same composition material as the candle and insert the preformed candle into the holder containing the liquid so that the base of the candle and the shaft thereof will merge into each other when the liquid in the holder cools.
Another method is to make the shaft of the preformed candle slightly smaller than the opening in the holder and filling the holder with a liquid material from which the candle is formed, and insert the preformed candle into said liquid material so that said liquid will rise to the level of the top of the holder.
Further modifications may be made in the shape of the candle and holder without departing from the spirit of this invention.
It may also be desirable to lengthen the wick of the preformed candle so that it will extend into the liquid in the holder to which said candle is joined when the liquid solidifies, so that a portion of the wick will extend into the holder when the candle is used.
What I claim is: p
1. A candle having an enlarged base integral therewith, said base being molded into a unitary fiat bottomed holder having a neck narrower than its base, the holder completely surrounding and snugly fitting over the enlarged base and serving as a stand for the candle, the candle and base being rigid and immovable with respect to said holder.
2. In combination, a candle having an enlarged base integral therewith which base is tapered outwardly from the shaft of said candle. and a unitary holder with a substantially fiat bottom completely enclosing and snugly fitting over said tapered base, the candle and base being rigid and immovable with respect to said holder.
3. In combination, a candle having a broadened base integral therewith and having a unitary holder with a substantially flat bottom completely enclosing and fitting snugly over said base and serving as a stand for the candle, the candle and base being rigid and immovable with respect to said holder.
