Description

SAFETY CALLOUS AND CORN KNIFE Filed. March 14, 1932 gwue'ntot Patented May 15, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to safety corn and callous razors and knives and has for its object to provide a new and eificient knife which will have a blade carried therein and which blade may be curved or straight.
A further object is to provide a corn and callous knife which may be adapted to out with either right or left hand, and which has the cutting blade removable therefrom which blade may be placed in either side of the handle either curved or straight.
A still further object is to provide a curved handle for a thin flexible steel cutting blade the blade to be placed in the handle for either right or left hand cutting, and which blade may be placed in the curved end of the handle or in the straight sides of the handle making the blade adaptable for use either as a curved blade or a straight blade.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar numerals and letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing I have shown Figure 1 as a plan view of my knife with the blade shown in position for a left hand cut and. with dotted lines to indicate the position of the blade when used for a right hand cut.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the handle opened.
Figure 4 is an inverted plan View of Figure 1.
In the drawing I have shown my handle A as made of two like side pieces 1 and 2 with adjacent ends curved on the same radius at C and D, and said adjacent ends being joined together by a hinge joint 3 and hinge pin 4.
A cutting blade B having one edge sharpened at B1 is then placed between the curved portions C and D of the side pieces 1 and 2 and the sides are then brought together bending the blade tofit the curve and the free ends of the sides 1 and 2 are secured together by a lock 5. The lock 5 is made of a U-shaped engaging portion 8 having one side extended at 7 and secured to the side 2 by the pin 6. The U-shaped portion 8 is adapted to encompass both sides of the handle A holding them clamped together.
If it is desired to remove the blade and use it in the opposite side of the handle the lock 5 is disengaged and the handles separated until the blade B is released. The blade B may then be placed in the opposite side of the handle and the sides again clamped together.
If it is desired to use the blade as a straight blade the blade is inserted between the sides 1 and 2 back of the curved ends thereof and used therebetween.
Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:-
In a device of the class described, the combination of two side pieces formed alike and hingedly connected together with one end portion bent in a curve adjacent the hinge portions thereof; a U-shaped clamp having one leg extended and pivotally secured to one of said side pieces with the U to engage both side pieces to lock them together along their free ends; and a short blade having one side sharpened, the blade being of less length than the space between the hinge and clamp, and carried between the side pieces at any position therealong.
