Description

C. S. MERRIMAN'.
BED-FANS.
No. 195,521. Patented Sept.25
m m R 0 T T A NFETERS. PHOTOLITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C
CLARK-S. MEBBIMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. E95,?) ll, dated September a5, 1877 application filed July 23, 1877.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK S. MERRIMAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bed-Pan, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a perspective view of my im proved bed-pan. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 00 w in Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A is the ordinary annular bed-pan, to one side of which an air-cushion, B, is attached. The air-space in the annular part is separate from that in the cushion.
An inflating tube, b, provided with a suitable valve, is attached to the annular part A, and a similar tube, 0, is connected with the cushion B, so that either or both may be inflated, as may be required.
0 is a cover of rubber, cloth, or other suitable material, in the center of which a pocket,
D, is formed, which is received by the cavity of the bed-pan.
When the device is used it is placed under the body, and one or both pans are inflated, as may be required. The cover (J is then placed in position with the pocket in the cavity of the bed-pan.
After use the cover C may be removed and cleansed and replaced; or two may be used in alternation.
The advantages claimed for my improvement are, that the body is supported in an elevated position, so that theexcrements, when ejected, will not flow down the back. It is more comfortable to use, and is easily cleaned.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure 1);, Lett rs Patcut- The bed-pan cover 0, provided with the pocket D, as and for the purpose specified.
CLARK S. MERRIMAN.
