This invention relates to containers in general and more especially to packages for merchandise, such as candy and the like.

Among the objects of the present invention it is aimed to provide an improved container or package especiallyadapted for small merchandise such as a unit or units of candy, in drop form, bar form or the like.

It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved package suitable for displaying the actual merchandise to facilitate its inspection and yet maintain it properly protected from exposure and from being disarranged.

It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved package for 'merchandise in which a plurality of units such for instance as units of candy may be arranged in a definite relation to one another, and such relation maintained and yet facilitate its inspection without subjecting the units to exposure.

It is still another object of the present invention to provide a display package for merchandise in which a definite arrangement of the merchandise may be maintained, the inspection of the same facilitated without exposing the'units themselves, and which package may be formed without the use of any cement, glue or other adhesive substance, or in fact any independent fastening means and the like.

These and other features, capabilities and ad vantages of the invention will appear from the subjoined detailed description of specific embodiments thereof, illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective of one embodiment of the present invention;

In the embodimentillustrated in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, there is provided a package suitable for use with two (2) bars'ofmerchandise such as candy which consists essentially of a stifiening member or shape contributing member 1 and a window forming member or package confining member 2. In this embodiment the member 1 consists essentially of a sheet composed of cardboard, stiii paper or the like having two (2) windows or rectangular openings 3 and 4 preferably 1932. in aligmnent with one another and formed in the upper face of the member 1 when folded into package form, the form illustrated in Fig. 5. The blank is preferably provided with elongated scorings 5 and 6 extending parallel to one another and to either side of the windows 3 and 4, and similarly parallel elongated edges 7 and 8 of the blank 1. In addition to the scorings 5 and 6 the blank 1 is also provided with two (2) groups of scorings, to wit, the group 9, 10 and 11, and the group 12, 13 and 14. The scorings 9, 10 and 11 constituting one group are disposed in alignment with one another and with the elongated edges 15 and 16 of the windows 3 and 4, and the scorings 12, 13 and 14 constituting the second group are disposed in alignment with one another and with the elongated edges 17 and 18 of the win- Y dows 3 and 4..

The member 2 preferably consists of a rectangular sheet of transparent paper or highly translucent paper such for instance as cellophane, gelatin paper, glassine paper and the like.

With a package consisting of the elements 1 and 2 of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, when packing two (2) bars of candy such as the bars 19 and 20, the blank 1 is first folded into the position illustrated in Fig. 5 preferably without the use of any glue, cement or the like. Thereupon the bars 19 and 20 are lo= cated in this blank 1 with their upper ends extending above the cross pieces 21, 22 and 23, see particularly Fig. 2. Thereupon the transparent wrapper 2 is folded around the blank 1 with one longitudinal edge 24 of the wrapper 2 preferably disposed adjacent to the scoring 6, see Fig. 3. The wrapper 2 from this edge 24 extends under the blank 1 the full width thereof then up and over the units 19 and 20 and then back below the blank 1 and over the edge 24 to the opposite end of the blank 1 adjacent to the scoring 5 terminating adjacent to this scoring as indicated by edge 25 of this wrapper 2 Thereupon the ends of the wrapper 2 are tucked into the pockets formed below the cross pieces 21 and 23 as indicated at 26 and 2'7.

From the foregoing it will appear that when the blank 1 is folded into package form, the wall member 28 formed between the scoring 5 and the longitudinal edge 7 will form the lower inner surface of the package, and the wall member 29 defined by the scoring 6 and longitudinal edge 8 will be dispbsed adjacent to the lower surface of the wall 28 and form the outer wall member of the blank 1.

From the foregoing it will of course appear that there may be provided as many windows 3 and 4 as there are units as illustrated for instance in the embodiment shown in Fig. 6 by the windows 30, 31, 32 and 33 and that on the other hand, when only two windows 3 and 4 are provided,

, that a plurality of of the scorings 5 and for anchoring the stiffening units may be provided to extend from each window as for instance in the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 'l where three units 34, 35 and 36 are formed to extend from the window 3 and three additional units 37, 38 and 39 are provided to extend from the window 4.

From the foregoing it will also appear that the cross pieces 21 and 23 at the ends of blank 1 cooperate intimately with the end portions of the remainder of the blank 1 to form pockets to receive the tucked in portions 26 and 2'! of the wrapper 2.

With any of the packages illustrated, an inexpensive package is produced consisting of two elemen-ts, to wit, a blank 1 and a wrapper 2 by means of which the merchandise may be inspected by the prospective purchaser without danger of exposure or dlsarrangement of the units. Furthermore no cement, glue or other fastening means or the like is necessary to anchor either the blank 1 in its folded position or the wrapper 2 in its wrapped position the tucking portions 26 and 27 cooperating with the pockets formed by the ends of the blank 1 securely to anchor members l and 2 in packed relation to one another, and firmly to secure the merchandise in place by the cooperation of the merchandise with the pockets formed by the blank 1 through the windows 3 and 4.

Still furthermore the wall members 40 and 41 in addition to the cross pieces 21, 22 and 23 serve admirably as surfaces for receiving advertising matter such as trade marks trade names, price and the like.

It is of course also obvious that instead of a plurality of openings 3 and 4, only one opening or window may be provided in the blank 1 to retain a single bar or a single row of units.

From the foregoing it will appear that by means 6 groups of scorings 9, 10 and 11 and 12,13 and facility folded into a rectangular column with the openings 3 and 4 disposed in the upper face thereof and the ends of the column opened to receive the tucked in portions 26 and 2'7 of the wrapper 2.

overlapping to form a merchandise receiving pocket with said opening and auxiliary pocket means formed by its open ends, and a wrapper wrapped around the merchandise and stiffening member with its ends tucked into said auxiliary pocket means thereby not only to enclose the stiffening member and merchandise in a single unitary package but also serve as the sole means member in its folded position, the merchandise in its disp ayed position, and the wrapper in its enclosing position.

2. A package comprising a stiffening member and a wrapper, said stiffening member composed of a stiff paper and foldable with two of its opposite sides overlapping into a hollow column open at its ends and provided with a window to into a hollow column with two of its sides overlapping around the stiffening member with its retained merchandise correspondine to the col- 14, the blank 1 may be with umn formed by said stiffening member and the end portions of the wrapper extending beyond the open ends of said stiffening member tucked into the open ends of the column formed by said stiffening member thereby not only to enclose the stiffening member and merchandise in a single unitary package but also serve as the sole means for anchoring the stiffening member in its folded position, the merchandise in its displayed position, and the wrapper in its enclosing position.

3. A package comprising a stiffening member and. a wrapper, said stiffening member being composed of a stiff paper having a merchandise receiving opening therein folded into a column open at its ends with one of its walls serving as an abutting base for the merchandise to be wrapped while projecting through said opening, and the wrapper being wrapped around the projecting merchandise and stiffening member in a similar column with its end portions extending beyond the open ends of said stiffening member tucked into the open ends of the column.

A package comprising a cardboard blank having a plurality of windows cut therein and longitudinal scorings to facilitate folding the cardboard blank into a column open at its ends, with one of its end members forming a supporting or abutting base for the merchandise to be wrapped, the windows permitting the merchandise disposed in the column to project laterally therefrom, and a wrapper folded around the folded cardboard blank and merchandise into a similar column with its end portions extending beyond the open ends of said blank tucked into the ends of the column formed by said blank.

5. A package comprising a cardboard blank having a plurality of openings and a plurality of longitudinal scorings to facilitate folding the blank into a rectangular column having two lateral walls for receiving advertising matter and the like, a lower wall forming a supporting or abutting base for the merchandise to be wrapped, and windows formed in the upper wall of the column, the windows permitting the merchandise to be wrapped to project therefrom, and a translucent wrapper wrapped around the blank and merchandise into a column corresponding to the column formed by the blank and the end portions of the wrapper extending beyond the open ends of said blank tucked into the open ends of the column formed by said stiffening member to facilitate inspection of the advertising matter and the merchandise without danger of exposing and disarranging the merchandise.

A package comprising a.cardboard blank having a plurality of scorings to facilitate fold-" ing the blank into a rectangular column with one of its walls serving as the supporting or abutting base for the merchandise to be wrapped and having a plurality of openings between two of said scorings to form windows in the upper surface of the colunm with cross pieces to receive markings and the like in the upper face of the column, the column having two lateral walls similarly to receive markings and the like, the windows permitting the merchandise to be wrapped to project from the column, and a transparent wrapper f olded around the merchandise and column into a. similar column to facilitate inspection of the merchandise and markings without danger of exposing and disarranging the merchandise with the end. portions of the wrapper extending beyond the open ends of the blank tucked into such open ends.
