The extension members 31 may be formed of metal and are U-shaped in cross section. They comprise sides 32 and 33 and top 34. The end portions 35 of sides 32 and 33 are bent outwardly substantially at right angles to sides 32 and 33, as indicated at 36 (Fig. 1). An arm 37 formed by an extension of top 34 is severed from connection with the portions 35 and extends forwardly thereof. An angle plate 33 having a right angle iiange 39 is secured to the portion 35, the main body of the plate abutting the front faces of portions 35, and the upper face of iiange 39 being in abutment with the lower face of arm 37. Aligned slots 40 in sides 32 and 33 extend longitudinally of extension member 31. Extension 31 cooperates with soiiit 18 by having its top 34, at the free end thereof, projected into the space 23, the top 34 being seated and slidable upon section 27 or" strap 25 (Fig. 5). The positioning of extension member 31 aligns the way 30 of sleeve 29 with the slots 40, so that a pin 41 may be inserted through way 30, its ends projecting outwardly beyond sides 32 and 33 of the extension 31, and having perforations 42 for receiving suitable cotter pins 43 which prevent withdrawal of pin 41. A bolt 44 passing through brace 20 and slots 40 is provided with a wing nut 45 which can be tightened for frictionally holding the extension member 31 in a given position relative to brace 20. Extension member 31 is thus adjustable longitudinally of brace 20, outward or forward movement thereof being limited by the abutment of ends of slots 40 upon the bolt 44. The pin 41 prevents any sagging or pivotal movement of extension 31 about bolt 44 that might otherwise occur upon the application of weight to the table member 19. The strap 25 prevents wearing and splintering of the end of brace 20, due to repeated adjustments of extension 31 thereon. A
The angle members 46 may be substantially Z shape and comprise a body or plate portion 48, a ledge or supporting lug 49, a web portion 51 and a tongue 5G extending from` the plate portion 48 in the same plane therewith and directly above and parallel with ledge 49. The tongue may be so formed from the web and ledge portion that a connector portion 490 is provided in the ledge joining one lug to the next. The angle members may be elongated as shown at 47.` The supporting lugs 49 and tongue may be formed integral with plate portion 48 by bending alternate severed portions of the metal along one side of plate 48 into L shape, so as to provide sections 51 disposed at right angles to plate 48, and sections 49. The tongues 50 occurring between the lugs 49 are unbent severed portions of plate 48. Perforations 53 are provided in the angle member.
As illustrated in Fig. 11, thin sheets or panels 540 of rigid metal, such as sheet iron, may be substituted for panels 54, in which case angle strips 47 are rendered unnecessary, as will be explained. v
The panels 54 are so constructed Filler blocks or strips 55 each comprise an angle bracket 46 and a piece of board 56, of a length equal to the projection of an extension member 31 beyond the table 19, when the extension is in its contracted position. Both bracket 46 and board 56 are of a width equal to that of the table members 19 of the solit with which the iiller block is to be used. The longer iiller strip 57 (Fig. 1G) consists of a section of board having an angle strip positioned along one longitudinal edge thereof. Cross bridge 570 (Fig. 9) is made up of a board having brackets 46 disposed at each end thereof.
In the construction of all the above members, nails or other fastening means 58 are inserted through perforations 53 into the material forming the member. Two sets of perforations 53 may be provided, one set adjacent the iront, the other adjacent the rear of plate 48, as shown by the filler strips herein. The use and cooperation of the various parts for constructing a deck will now be described.
It is understood that such a deck is constructed in the space occurring between spaced beams or upon shoring supporting the decking between adjacent columns. A number of sonits are positioned in parallel relation between beams or withinsuch a space as that just described. The positioning of the sonits on beam molds, as shown herein, is accomplished by adjusting the extension members 31 at the ends of the soi'lits so that the flanges 39 of plates 38 rest upon the upper Vsurfaces of supports 17, whereupon nails are driven through perforations 390 in portions 35 and plate 38, into supports 17. By reference to Fig. 1 it will be seen that an opening results between the ends of the table members 19 and the sides 14 of the mold. These spaces or openings are bridged by the filler blocks 55 as illustrated in Figs. 6, 7 and 8. The plate portion 48 of an angle bracket 46 is secured to the end portion of a table member 19, after the edge of nller piece 56 has been brought into abutment against the side 14 of the mold adjacent and on a level with the top edge of side 14, which edge, as shown, consists of the ribbon strip 16 (Fig. 8). In case it has been necessary to extend the member 31 to its limit in order to properly position the soil'lt, the greater space thus resulting can be closed by advancing the filler block 55 outwardly of the end of table member 19 until the filler abuts the edging 16 ofV the girder mold. It is likewise evident that all intermediate adjustments of extension 31 and the resultant openings, are taken care of by theA ller blocks and strips of this invention. The filler piece 56 or the ller block is supported over the top 34 of extension 31. The tongue 50, in all the devices described herein, assures the rigid retention of the boarding between the lugs and the tongue, prevents sagging and likewise serves as a positive means against buckling or vertical upward displacement of the positioned member.
When the soffits and iller strips 55 are in position, panels 54 are placed by securing the plate portions 48 of angle strips 47 to the opposed side portions of table members 19 yof a pair of softs. A panel or a number of them placed in lateral abutment, reach from end to end of the table members 19. Thus at the ends of the paneling, a space or opening results between the soiiits, equal in width to the distance from the ends of members 19 to the adjacent beam molds. Such spaces are iilled by the larger ici) iiller strips 57 which are positioned 'along the lateral edge of the panel 54 adjacent the Ybeam mold. Filler strips 57 are adjustable 'on their panels in the saine way thatnllfers areadinstable on members i9, so that whenjestensions 3l are Inoved outwardly, the Agreater space resulting between Vthe beam mold and the panel may be closed by the saine filler strips 57. This, as well as the relationship of the positioned parts, will be seen by reference to Fig; 1.0 which shows a port-ion of a completed deckin readiness to receive the wet concrete.- u

The ends oi filler 559 rest upon the ends of table members 19,v the body portion thereof being supported upon the edge of panel 54. Thus a single member may be substituted `for the three mer-fibers illustrated in Fig. l0. Y
In son-ie instances in the course of a given piece of construction, it may be' desirable to provide a cross support at a distance intermediate the ends of the regular soints. In such and in ,similar cases, cross bridges 570 may be 4used to' advantage. As seen in Fig. 9, one 'ofbrackets 45 oitwo such` cross bridges may be securedto a single support or soint 90, by sup'eriinposing one of the plates i8 upon the other. Cross bridges such as 57() are particularly intended for use indecking on which a rib and slabfloor and ceiling structure is formed, for example as shown in the aforesaid Harigapplication.
As set forth in Fig. l2, panels 54 may be used in the same way as cross bridging' 570`,-` is, upon aV single support member providing only a limied supporting' surface. The invention disclosed herein is not l-iinited to structures comprising beams and girdershbutV is also adaptable to constructions of the type;v
shown in the patent to Smulsli-No. l,223;529 which the pillars or columns support the floorV slabs and in which snoring is used for supporting the sonlts as distinguished from the beam mold l2 ribbon board 17 shown in Fig: l herein.
The invention is not coniined to structures` wherein a soint comprises a body or brace meniber 2d and a table member 19, but is also applicable in cases where the sonit consists only of a member such as 20, and no table member is provided.- This type oi structure is disclosed in Fig.4 9,where the soft is designated QQ.' In such iorins of construction the panels 54 may be used ior providing so-called solid decking',` or the' panels lmay be dispensed with for providing*so-l called open centering. The cross bridges`570 would ordinarily be used onlyv with the open centering type of structure, and with suitabletiles or pans for providing a rib and slab construction'f In some instances, the adjustable soilits, without' table members, may be installed, and sheathing or iiooring'lumber laid directly on the softs, thereby obvia-ting use oi the panels 54, and the ller strips would be supported on the sheathing or flooring.

An angle member comprising a plate portion, lugs extending from the plate at one side thereof and in spaced parallelism therewith, tongues secured to the plate in substantially the same plane therewith and extending over the lugs at intervals along the plate, and connector means joining one lug to the next.

The combination with spaced beam or girder forms of temporary decking means comprising spaced soiiits attached at their ends to Vthe beam, said sofiits providing table members disposed in spaced, endwise relation to the beam, paneling positioned between and supported by the soiits and co-extensive in length with the table members, and a filler member comprising a ilat element having means thereon for attachment to the ends of the paneling and the table members whereby to ll the space between the beam form, the paneling and the table members.

VThe combination of spaced main support members, spaced extensible soiilts' supported at their ends by the main support members, each extensible soflit comprising a table member and an extension member, each table member adapted to have its one end disposed at variable distances from oneof the main support members, said variable distances being determined by the projection of the extension member beyond the table member when the soiit'is supported by the main support members, a ller block between the main support member and that end of each table member spaced from the main support member, each ller block comprising a plate and a block member attached thereto, the plate extending between the block member and the table member and with said block and table members providing a substantially even upwardly exposed face for the entire length of each extended soit, and means closing the spaces between adjacent soits and the ller blocks supported thereby.

The combination of spaced main support members, spaced extensible soits supported at their ends by the main support members, each extensible sot comprising a table member and an extension member, each table member adapted to have its one end disposed at variable distances from one of the main support members,
said variable distances being determined by theA projection of the extension member beyond the table member when the soit is supported by the main support members, a filler block between the main support member and that end of each table member spaced from the main support member, each filler block comprising a plate and a block member attached thereto, the plate extending between the block member and the table member and with said block and table members providing a substantially even upwardly exposed face for the entire length of each extended soit, closure means of the approximate lengths of the unextended sots supported between the spaced soiiits, and other ller blocks comprising block members and plate members, extending between the main support member and the closure means, the block f members thereof supported by the main support member and the plate members thereof supported by the closure means, the plate members and block members having substantially even upwardly exposed faces in substantial continuity with the upwardly exposed faces of the first mentioned filler blocks, said last mentioned filler blocks closing the spaces between the adjoining first mentioned ller blocks, closure means and main support member.
13. The combination of spaced sonits, the soits comprising table and extensible members, means for supporting the soffits in variable degrees of extension whereby the extensible members may project beyondrthe table members and whereby openings may b e developed between the support means and table members, ller strips insertable in the openings between the soit tables and the support means and adaptable to various sized openings at the ends of the table members for providing an upper face substantially continuous with the upper faces of the tables, and means including cross bridging supported along adjacent soiiits, and forming closures between adjacent soiits and filler strips, said means having their upper faces in substantial continuity With the upper faces of the soit tables and filler strips.
14. The combination with an extensible soffit comprising a table member and an extension member, the table member being disposed above the extension member whereby upon projection of the extension member an offset is provided at the end of the table member and over the extension member, of a filler block comprising a strip member adapted to be supported upon the extension member, and a plate member projecting from the strip member and projecting over the table member whereby a substantially continuous face is provided by the table and the filler block throughout the entire length of the extended soit.
