Description

Jan. 5, 1932. 1, LASCARI 1,839,564
BLOTTER Filed Aug. 18, 1951 Inventor c//y bayou/N' www llomey Patented Jan. Y5, 1932 nir raras rar JOHN nnscnnr, or UivronvrLLE, CONNECTICUT.
BLOTTER Appncauon fusa August 1s, 1931.k serial no. 5523309.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in blotters and has for its priniary object the provision of a blotter especially adapted for use with check books i and more particularly for use with those types of check books usually used by commercial houses and characterized by having each page thereof provided with a single stub portion common to a plurality of individual check portions.
Briefly, the invention consists in the provision of a blotter having a portion thereof adapted to be inserted between the stub portions of two sheets of the check book together with a pluralityof independent portions connected with the iirst named portion and cor responding in number to the number of checks connected' with the stub portion of the i check book sheet.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention will become apparent from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l is a longitudinal edge elevational view of the check book, my improved blotter being shown inserted therein.
Figure 2 is an edge elevational view of the blotter.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the blotter.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that my improved blotter is substantially rectangular, and is preferably of a size corresponding to the size of one page of a check book. The blotter per se, consists of a rectangular end portion 5 of blotting material,
to one longitudinal edge of which is hingedly connected a plurality of separable relatively elongated portions 6 each formed of blotting paper material.
The hinge connecting the sections 6 with the section 5, consists of oblong relatively narrow strips of blotting paper 7 to one side of which is adhesively secured an oblong strip of fabric 8 of a width greater than the width of the strip 7 and having one longitudinal edge portion adhesively secured to one side of the blotter section 5.
At its opposite longitudinal edge portion, the strip 8 is slitted transversely at relatively spaced points to provide individual sections 49 adhesively secured to the blotter sections/6."
In actual practice, it is proposed to have the blotting section 6 on one face thereof inscribed with advertising or other indicia.
ln actual practice, the blotter is intended to be'used with that type of check book shown in Figure l and designated generally by the reference character l0. As shown, each page of the check book l0 consists of a stub section 11 separated from the check sections l2 of the sheet by a line of perforations as is well known. ln using my improved blotter the blotter section 5 thereof is provided between the stub sectionsll of two adjacent sheets of the book 10, with the blotter sections 6 completely covering the check section 12 of the lowermost sheet of the book. For each check section 12 of that particular page, there is a blotter section 6. Obviously, when a particular check of that page is to be made out, the blotter section 6 covering that particular check is swung back upon its hinge and uncovers the check. Immediately themaking out of the check is completed that particular blotter section 6 may be swung downwardly for the purpose of blotting the check.
Even though l have herein shown and described the kpreferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of further changes, modiicaytions `and improvements coming within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
l. A blotter comprising a blotting section, together with a plurality of additional blotting sections hingedly connected at one end to the iirst named blotting section. j
2. A blotter comprising a relatively large section, and a plurality of blotting sections separate from one another and connected at one end to one edge of said first named section.
3. A blotter for disposition between adjacent pages of a check book, and comprising a plurality of sections of which, certain of said sections extend in slightly spaced parallel relation, and a single one of which eX-Y tends transversely of the first named sections and means hingedly connecting said oneA section adjacent one longitudinal edge thereof with the iirst named sections at one end of said first named sections.
4. In a lolotter7 a relatively elongated blotter section, a plurality of relatively spaced blotter sections extending at right angles t0 one longitudinal edge of the first named section, a hinge adhesively secured to one facey of all of said sections and extending lengthwise o' the iirst named sections, said strips being slit transversely for a portion of its Width adjacent certain longitudinal edges of the last named section whereby each of the last named sections may be swung relat tive to the first named sections independently of the remaining ones of said second named sections.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
JOHN LASCARI.
