This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in circuit makers and breakers and more particularly to a novel alarm switch especially adapted for use on automobiles.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a switch capable of being associated with the usual ignition switch of an automobile ignition system, whereby the ignition switch can only be operated by an authorized person, or one having knowledge of the coinbination.
During the course of the following specification, other important objects and advan- J tages of the invention will readily become apparent to the reader.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the device is embodied in a housing consisting of the side walls 55, the top and bottom walls 6 and 7 as well as the front and rear walls as at 9. To the front wall 8 is secured the plate 10 having the openings 11 therein arranged exteriorly of the disk 12, on which disks are the numerals 13. v
This disk 13 is carried by the knob 14. which is located on the outer end of the shaft 15, the disk 12 being provided with an inwardly dis- .55 posed pintle 16 engageable in one of the openings 17. (See Fig. 6.) This shaft extends through an opening in the front wall 8 and through an opening in the rear wall9.
A coiled spring 18 is interposed between the .60 stop 19 on the back end of the shaft 15 and the back wall 9, the inner end of the spring 18, bearing in the socket 20. I
WVith the foregoing construction, the combination of the device can be readily changed by pulling outwardly on the knob 14 and inserting the pintle 16 in a different recess 17.
The openings 11 in the front plate 10 reg ister with openings 21 extending thru the front wall 8 and through these openings 21 '70 may be inserted a key in the nature of a pin, which is not shown in the drawings.
Slidabl'e on the shaft 15 is a circularmember 22 having a cut-out portion 23. This member 22 is preferably covered with some .75 suitable insulating material. This cut-out portion 23 has the block 24 operative therein, the block 24 being carried by the outer end of the leaf spring 25, the latter being secured by the bolt 26 and nut 27 to the element 22 in the manner shown in Fig. 8.
Inwardly of the circular member 22 is a yokestructure 28 which has the lower end of its legs swingably connected to the shaft 29. Inwardly of the circular member 22 is an elongated body 30 swingably supported on the shaft at the bottom of the device. An elongated arm 31 extends upwardly and out- Wardly from the body 29 to a position out wardly of the yoke member 28. (This can be seen in Fig.
Circumscribing the shaft 15 and projecting from the circular element 22 is the slotted sleeve 32 in which the pin 33 of the shaft 15 is slidable, thus'permitting the circular member 22 to be rotated with the knob 14; after the pintle 16 of the knob is disengaged from its recess 17.
The ignition switch (or in fact any switch for any purpose) is denoted generally by numeral 34, the same comprising the switch blade on the yoke 28 and the leaf spring contacts 36 on the back wall 9 of the housing. Conductors connect to the spring contacts 36 and extend switch elements 35 in the manner substantially shown in Fig. 3, and suitable binding posts may be provided on the back wall to accommodate these conductors.
In the path of the arm 31 is the protuberance 37 on the latch member 38, which is provided with a hooked'end 39. This latch member 38 is swingably connected to the back wall 9 as at 40. A block 41 is pivotally connected to the back wall 9 as at 42 and is provided with an upstanding finger 43 which is normally engaged by the hooked end 39 of the latch 38. Pivotally secured to the block 41 is the trigger 44 which normally bears against the nut 45 on the screw 46, which at its lower end is equipped with a handle 47. This nut 46 has a sleeve extension 48 which rides against the under side of the switch blade 49.
A collar 50 on the screw 46 above the blade 49 has a spring 51 bearing down on the same to urge the same against the switch blade in the manner shown in Fig. 5. The switch blade 49 1S pivotally mounted as at 52 and carries a conductor band 53 to which one side of an alarm circuit 53 connects. The opposite side of the alarm circuit connects to the contacts 54 with which the conductor band the block toward the screw 46.
i As can clearly be seen in Fig. 3 a leaf spring 58 is secured at one end as at 59 to the top 6 of the housing, and is bent upwardly at its end as at 60 and normally urged downwardly by the compressible coiled spring 61. A note i 62 serves to receive the upwardly bent end 60 of the leaf spring to maintain the yoke 28 in an operated position.
It can now be seen that when the key is inserted through the proper opening 21, the same will press against the block 24 of the circular member 22, to swing the yoke 28 backwardly and cause the blade 35 to engage the leaf spring contact 36 to close the ignition system.
In the event the key is inserted through the wrong opening 31 and engages the member 22, elsewhere'of the block 24, not only will the member 22 be moved but also the body 29 which carries the arm 31. The arm 31 in moving rearwardly will engage the projection 37 on the latch member 38 and in swinging the same will disengage the hooked end 39 thereof from the finger 43 on the block This will permit the spring 57 to swing the block 41 in the screw 46 and in so doing will trip the member 44, permitting the blade 55 to engage the contact 56 for closing an alarm circuit. In order to set this arrangement, the screw 46 must be actuated, but if this is done by an unauthorized person, the blade 49 will be operated and this conductor blade 52 thereon will engage the contact 54 and close an alarm circuit, thus, the alarm will be given in any event, and in this manner thereby persons will be warned of the in dication of a crime in the attempt.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the illvent-ion as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1- 1. A switch of the character described comprising a hand member, a dial body, a plurality of openings extending through the body, a slide plate, said slide plate having an opening therein, a swingable element in the opening, saidswingable element being registrable with one of the openings through the dial body, and a switch adapted to be engaged by the movable element when the same is engaged by a. suitable element disposed through the corresponding opening of the dial body. 7
2. A switch of the character described .comprising a band member, a dial body, a plurality of openings extending through the body, a slide plate, said slide plate having an opening therein, a swingable element in the opening, said swingable element being registrable with one of the openings through the dial body, a. switch adapted to be engaged by the movable element when the same is engaged by a suitable element disposed through the corresponding opening in the dial body, and means whereby the said slidable plate can be swung so that the movable element will register with a different openlng.
3. A switch of the character described comprising a hand member, a dial body, a plurality of openings extending through the body, a. slide plate, said slide plate having an opening therein, a swingable element in the opening, said swingable element being registrable with one of the openings through the dial body, a switch adapted to be engaged by the movable element when the same is engaged by a suitable element disposed through the corresponding opening in the dial body, and means whereby the said slidable plate can be swung so that the movable element will registerwith a dilferent opening, said means comprising a shaft extending from the hand member, said shaft being secured to the said slide plate, and pin and recess conneclaid and

A switch of the character described comprising a hand member, a dial body, a plurality of openings extending through the body, a slide plate, said slide plate having an opening therein, a swingable element in the opening said swingable element being registrable with one of the openings through the dial body, a switch adapted to be engaged by the movable element when the same is engaged by a suitable element disposed through the corresponding opening of the dial body, means whereby the said slidable plate can be swung so that the movable element will register with a different opening, an arm carried by the said slide plate, and an alarm switch, and a trip mechanism operated by the arm for actuating the said alarm switch.
5. A switch of the character described comprising a hand member, a dial body, a plurality of openings extending through the body, a slide plate, said slide plate having an opening therein, a swingable element in the opening, said swingable element being registrable with'one of the openings through the dial body, a switch adapted to be engaged by a suitable element disposed through the corresponding opening of the dial body, means whereby the said slidable plate can be swung so that the movable element will register with a different opening, an arm carried by the said slide plate, and an alarm switch, a trip mechanism operated by the arm for actuating the said alarm switch, and means whereby the said alarm switch can be re-set.
