Description

Dec. Z2, 1931. v R, C, WARE 1,837,348
DI SPLAY FRAME Original Filed Aug. 25, 1929 1022er? 175m? Patented Dec. 22, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ROBERT C. WARE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA,` ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO ATTRACTOR, INC., OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE DISPLAY FRAME- Application filed August 26, 1929, Serial' No. 383,380. Renewed April 178, 1931.
My invention has for its object the provision of an extremely simple and highly efficient display frame for removably holding a card or similar object and especially well adapted for holding an advertising display card.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combination of devices hereinafter described and deined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved display frame mounted on a short pedestal;
Fig. 2 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the lower end portion of the display frame removed from the pedestal, on an enlarged scale; Y
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the top memr ber of the pedestal removed from the frame,
on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 5 is a view partly in front elevation and partly in section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on the line 6 6 of Fig. 7, on an enlarged scale;
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a base for detachably supporting the frame in an upr right position, and a Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a bracket for detachably supporting the frame in a horizontal position from a relatively fixed support, as indicated by broken lines.
The numeral 10 indicates a hollow rectangular metal frame, the side forming sections of which are square in cross-section except at the inner or opposing members thereof which are V-shaped in cross-section. D In the apexes of these V-shaped inner members of the side sections of the frame 10 is an endless rectangular retaining groove 11.
To removably mount a card X or otherV similar object in the frame 10 there is formed ,.O in the outer member'of one of the side sections of said frame a passageway 12 in the` form of a long narrow slot which extends in the plane of the retaining groove 11. The size of the card X is such'that' when mounted in the groove 11 it loosely fits withinthe outer members of the side sections of the frame 10 and is-held thereby against edgewise shifting movement in allV directions except through the passageway 12. Said card X is held against removal from the frame 10 through the passageway 12, as will hereinafter appear. i
Secret separable fasteners are provided for detachably securing the frame 10 to a pedestal, base, shelf, or other support and which support also serves to close the passageway 12. These separable fasteners, as sho-wn, in-v cludea pair ofvheaded studs 13 Arigidly se,
cured to a relatively fixed support and cooperatlng lock slots 14 formed in the outer member of the frame 1Q in which the passageway 12 is formed. vThese lock slots 14 are` formedV by increasing the width ofthe passageway 12,n (see Fig. 3). One of the ends of the slots 14 is expanded to.` form a round pas-v sageway 15 for the heads of the studsV 13.
In applying the frame 10 to a support, the
headsof the studs 13 are insertedthrough the passageways 15 to bring theA frame 10 Vinto directfcontact "with the support andV said frame moved edgewise tocarrythe bodies'of the studs 13 intoy thejlock slots 14 `with the heads of said studs Vin( the hollovv` frame `10, (see Fig. 5) l With the frame 10 thus mounted, thecard X rests on the heads of the studs 13 and is held thereby against removal from the frame 10 and the passageway 12 is closed by the support.
Figs. 1 and 2 show a short pedestal 16 for support for displaying the card X or the object mounted in said frame. In place of the studs 13, wood screws may be used for detachably securing the frame 10 to a shelf or other relatively fixed support. The card X may be very easily and quickly removed from the frame 10 and a new card substituted therefor.
What I claim is:
l. A device of the class described comprising a frame having an endless internal groove and an entrance passageway in the plane of the groove through which an object may be inserted and slid in said groove to mount the sam-e in the frame, a support for the frame which normally closes the passageway, and separable fasteners detachably connecting the frame to the support including a pair of headed studs on the support and cooperating lock slots in the frame, and said slots being formed by increasing the width of portions of the passageway.
2. A device of the class described comprising a frame having an endless internal groove and an entrance passageway in the plane of the groove through which an object may be inserted and .slid in said groove to mount the same in the frame, a support for the Jframe which normally closes the passageway, and separable fasteners detachably connecting the frame to the support including a pair of headed studs on the support and cooperating lock slots in the frame, and the heads of said studs affording supports on which the object in the frame rests.
3. A device of the class described comprising a frame having an endless internal groove and an entrance passageway in the plane of the groove through which an object may be linserted and slid in said groove to mount the same in the frame, a support for the frame, and a separable fastener detachably connecting the frame and support, said fastener including a member extending into i said slot and having internal interlocking engagement with the frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
