This invention relates to pajamas and parobject of the invention is to provide such a garment (that is a garment of a trousers type) with legs which will be so large at the bottom that the garment when worn will have the appearance of a full skirt and yet fit snugly about the waist or body sothat the appearance will be neat or trim and comfortable and be free from looseness or fullness about the waist. Such a garment especially commends itself to women and girls.

The invention consists in whatever is described by or is included within the terms or scope of the appended claim. 7

In the drawings the invention is illustrate as embodied in the pants or trousers member of a suit of pajamas and in such drawings- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the garment;

Describing in. detail what is shown in the drawings, there is a waist portion, 10, and a pair of legs, 11, the bottom of the waist and the top of the legs being sewed together on a seam, 12, which atthe front follows substantially the groin of the body. The waist is formed to fit trimly ,or snugly to the corresponding part of the 'body' and from the seam, 12, each trousers leg flares downwardly and outwardly, each leg in effect being the frustum of a cone with a base,

It is important that stock garments within a limited range of a certain size as to waist be capable of sufficient waist adjustment to suit persons of different waist measures within that size. This I accomplish by making theback parts, 13, at the upper edge stretchable from a normallycontracted condition to suit the waist measurements of persons larger than the contracted. waist'measure of the garment. It is equally important that the means for providing such adjustment be such that the portion of the waist of the garment which is acted upon by the elastic shall at alltimes present a smooth, neat appearance and lie flatly against the person without any twisting'or rolling which besides'being unsightly would exert a localized and'annoying pressure'on the'body. Again economy of manufacture mustbe taken into account. I achieve all these things by the construction shown in the drawings which comprises a band or strap, 21, of inelastic material of considerable length and a short section of elastic webbing. 22, stitched each at one end to one end of the band, 21, and at the other end being stitched to the waist portion of the garment adjacent the placket. The strip or band with the elastic ends is enclosed in a hem or tunnel, 23, with lines of stitching adjacent the upper and lower edges of the strip or band. Whatever puckering exists by reason of the contraction of the elastic sections is of very limited extent at each side while for the most part, the waist at the back lies smooth and flat and without any tendency to curl or twist or roll.

The inelastic strip, 21, may be a foldedv over piece of cotton, or other inexpensive material between the overlying portions of which at the ends, the ends of the elastic I are in circuit.

Simply by way of illustration and without being limited to the dimensions in practice, the contracton by the normal contraction of the elastic sections is about an inch less than the normal waist size of the garment and it will stretch or expand to about two inches above that normal size and thus give approximately three inches of adjustment for each side.

The blank shown in Fig. 4 from which each leg is made is a sector which is substantially a semi-circle with the central portion 4 removed so that when the straight edges which form the diameter are secured together in a seam, 24, the funnel or f rustum-cone shape legs, 11, will result.

It will be evident that the garment shown in the drawings fulfills all the "conditions which it is stated hereinbefore is the object of the invention to achieve. The garment thus produced is trim, neat and comfortable being free from objectionable fullness at the waist and due to the full skirt effect is com fort-able about the legs and stylish.

What is claimed is:

A garment of the trousers type having a waist portion formed of two sets ofcomplementary front and back blanks joined by a seam on a median line that extends through the crotch and two legs formed each of a' sec tor shape blank with straight edges that are joined on a seam at the inside of the leg, the bottom of the waist blanks and the tops of the leg blanks being joined by a seam situated substantially at the groin of the human body, the waist blanks at the sides being openable andclosable at a slit thereat and means for detachably securing togetherthe parts adjacent each slit.
