Description
NOV. 10, 1931- J. JAslNA 1,831,496
TIE FASTENER Filed Aug. 19, 1929 v' INVENTOR. le/r voile 1 f ATTORNEY( Patented Nov. 1.0, 1931 UNITED STATES JOHN JAsrNA, or nnfrtoi'iglmcnfrenn Application led August 19, `1929. Serial o. 387,029.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a tie fastener and has for its object the provision of a tie fastener in the use of which a tie may be tied into a knot `J- and left permanently tied, thus relieving the tie of the excessive wear and tear to which it is subjected by repeated tying and untying of the knot and at the same time aording the wearer convenience and ease in placing the tie in position and wearing and removing it.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tie fastener the ends of which` may be held securely in position in alignment with each other and easily and quickly detached.
Another object of the invention is the provision in a tie of a fastening means which will permit easy and quick fastening and unfastening of the tie and which will lie flat across the collar .so as not to provide any undesirable projection to press against the neck of the wearer.
Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement `of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which, Fig. 1 is a side elevational view vof the inenton.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary end view of the invention. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the fastener show- Of the parts detached. 2`The tie with which the fastener is used is made up of a pair of fabric portions 7 and 8 which after being encircled about the neck are tied in the usual knot such as a four-in-hand knot. The ends of the fabric portion 7 and 8 are securely held in alignment with each other by a fastening member. This fastening 1nember comprises a pair of sections, one of these elevational sections consistingof the plate9 having the slots.
10 formed thereinwherebythe fastener may be stitched to the fabric portion 7 or 8 with the outer edge of the plate inalignment with the end edge of the fabric portion to which it is stitched. A tongue 11 projects outwardly from this edge of the Aplate 9 and Iis provided with a head having the lateral wings 12 and. 13. 4Secured to thek other fabric portion is the femaleplate 14 having the stitch receiving '55 slots 15 `formed therein, this plate 14 alsobei ing secured tothe fabricportion with this outer edge in alignmentwith the end edge of the fabric portionto whichit is secured. An opening 16Y is kformed in the plate 14-of the contour of the head and tongue carried by the plate .9 ibut ofsmaller dimensions that is, the opening' 16 is Wider than the head but f less area, as the head is deep'erthan lthe opening. 'Ihe'se plates 9 and 14 are fornied curved to c5 correspond to the curvature of the collar with which they-are used.l wThe corners V17 and 18 ofthe .opening `16 are offset inwardlyof the curve.A Ivheportion 19r at the base of the opening A16 is also offset outwardly j ofthe curve. `tWhen the head carried by the plate 9v is projected through the opening l16 and strain -is exerted tending to separate.; the .plates 9 and 114, the wings 12 andl will engage `theoft'set corners 17 and 18, and the tongue 11 will engage in the offset portion 19 and the a eX or pointQOr of the head will be positione slightly rearwardlyof the apex A21 of the opening'l and the finclinedside's of the head will be positioned slightly within the v.inclined sides of the opening 16, the head thus -seating A in the opening and rthe edges of lthe kplates 14 and 9A abutting against each other `as shown in F iggl. This abutment 'of the edges of the plates 14' and 9 against4 each ,other prevents; undue unfasteningof the deviceand afordsa smooth surface for engagement with the collar with which worn. In f forder v .to 'disengage -theparts it is: necessary that theplates 7 and 14be tilted angu'larlyof eaclr other'sothat the edges which are in en- Y gagement may be projected into overlapping relation to permit the withdrawal of the head fromlthe opening 16. In this way, the tie is secured together so as not to cause the wearer to feel any difference than if the tie were uninterrupted while at Vthe same time the convenience sought for is obtained. a
While I have illustrated and described the preferredV form, of my invention, I do not edges. v v i In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification. i'
wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure shown but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention', what- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: I
l. Afastenin'g device of the class described adapted for securing a pair of separable fabric portions with the ends adjacent and in alignment, comprising: a pair'of 'arl cuate plates, each of said plates being secured at one edge to one of said adjacent ends of said fabric portions,one of saidvplates hav-;
and being ofy largerfarea and offslightly Vsmaller width for projection into said opening, the'co'rnersiofV the plate bearing said v opening beinginwardly ofi-set for reception of the corners of said head, said opening bearing Y plate preventing, -throughengagement with the corners of said head, withdrawalv of said plates and maintaining said platesin alignment, one of said plates being offset for compensatingv inthiclmess the overlying relation of said 'tongue' and Ythe edge or' sai opening bearing plate. j
2. A :fastening device comprising av pair of 'arcuate plates, each ofl said. plates ybeing adapted tobe secured at one edge to adjacent ends of separable fabric portions, one of said plates vhaving an opening formed adjacentA its free edge; Y a .tongue Y Vproj ectingv outwardly from the free edgelof the other of said plates; a head mounted on the end of said tongue con.- forming in outline to the outline of said opening .and being of larger area andv of slightly smaller width for projection into said opening, the corners of the plate bearing said opening being inwardly oil'set orrecepl tion of they corners of said head, said opening bearing plate preventing, through engagement with the corners ,of said head, withdrawal of said plates, said opening bearing j plate being outwardl odset at the edge of said opening to provi e a recess for reception of said tongue said plates aligning with each other and engaging each other at adjacent -JoHN JAsINA.
