This invention reletes to body garments end more'perticulerly to e hody garment in the form of n waist and hip encirchng girdle for use when the person may he engaged in athletics, bathing or other activities,
The primary object of the invention is to construct at body encircling girdle'oii the type mentioned which will outonieticsily conform. to the shape of the body, without the necessityotlecing or other fastening nieens, the construction of the germent being such that the .ehdoinen and waist line of the person ore retained in perfect rounded outline, without undesirable protrusion oi fleshy portions of the waist line and abdomen,
Another object ot the invention is to construct girdle of the type referred to of elestic inste'riei in such manner that the tension of? the eiestic materiel is e'iiective in difierent directions upon the body so thot the garment will outometicelly assume the proper shepe to not leterelly shout the worst and over the hips of the Weerer end will exert on npword poll upon the oimlonien therehy enabling the gernient to conifer-in to the human enotoniyend giving grsce end jiorno to the wearer,
, Still another object of the invention is to construct e garment of the sleeve type so that the some may he formed of o singie strip of elastic materiel which is out insnch manner that the front side portions telre n lower dip then the reerwerd or heck portion, the ends of the front side portions being connected by on inelastic, inverted triengulenor keystone shaped portion whereby the nngnlnrity oi the front side portions causes the inelastic portion to drew upwardly on the fleshy ports of the ehdomen and thus presenting it desireble fist front edect while else compressing other ports of the body such es the fleshy parts of the hips and buttocks of the'weerer in desirable rounded and graceful outline,
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a novel method of cutting'the elastic webbing end arranging the some to produce the results already mentioned.
Still another object of the invention is to equip e garment of the above cherocter with o rearward flop portion formed of elastic bond 10 moy'eirtend material in which the tension is norlly in e horizontol direction, but which when applied to the rear. of the buttocks'will drew the fleshy parts together in such manner as to produce n desirable appearance, the reerword hep portion and the inelastic front in-' sert being ndspted to cooperetewith a re-. movable crotch strep, which removeble crotch strep is also edapted to perform on eddltionol function of supportmg it ontomeniel napkin or the like. 7
Uther objects and advantages ofthe invention Wlll be hereinafter specifically pointed out, or will become apparent, as the specification proceeds.
With the above indicated objects in view the invention resides in certain novel contit) structions and combinations end errongev merit of ports, clearly described in the tollowing specification end t'ully illustrated in the occomponying vdrawings, which letter show embodiments of the invention as at present preferred.
v in said drawings:
Fig, l is c View of the present girdle in front elevation; A i
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the some;
3 is e side elevation; and 1 Fig. 4: is a detail diegre eticview illustreting the manner of cutting and forming the garment Referring more perticulerly to the drewings the girdle in this instance is formed til) 10 which is desirably of such suitable width that when the some isforrned into the germent as hereinafter described; the elastic below the wnist line.
'lo enelole the garment to exert tension upon the body both horizontally and in uppertly. above and partly weirdly inclined directions at. the front of the body, the front ends 1l'andl2 of the bend are turned inwardly and downwardly at angles designed to conform to the vertical line of the hips of the wearer as seen at 13 end 14-. -The end portions ll-ond 12 are then cut'on the bias in a, direction opposite to the hip lines 13 and 14, as indicated at 15 end 16 respectively. Thus downwardly inclined front sections 11 and 12 are then joined by means of akeystoneeshaped inelastic insert 17, the sides of the insert 17 being stitched to the bias edges 15 and 16 of the downwardly inclined front side members 11 and 12 respectively. v
It will be seen that the side portions of the inelastic insert 17 are of greater extent than the normal width of the band 10, so that the combined effect of the inclined front side portions 11 and 12 with the inelastic insert 17 will be to position the front inelastic insert 17 at a lower level u on the abdomen than the rearward part or ack 18. The band 10 is preferably reinforced at the center of the back of the garment by means of a vertically extending inelastic strip 19 stitched to the inner side of the band, to prevent wrinkling of the band at the rear. Extending downwardly at the center of the rear of the band 10 I provide a flap portion 20 which is stitched to the bottom edge-of the band portion 18, as indicated at 20, preferably formed of elastic material similar to that of the band 10, with the lines of tension extending normally horizontally. This fia 20 is of downwardly tapering contour an extends downwardly to a o1nt just above the crotch of the wearer. .& crotch strap 21 is provided to join the lower end of the flap 20 with the lower end of the inelastic front insert 17 and this crotch strap 21 is preferably secured in place by means of removable fastening devices, such as books and eyes 22 applied to the binding edges of the strap 21 and flap 20 at the rear of the garment as seen at 23 and 24 respectively, and to the binding ed es 25 and 26 of the strap 21 and front i1 lastic insert 17, as seen at 25 and 26 respectively.
When t e garment is placed about the waist of the 11881; which is done by slipping the same upwar over the hips, it is found that the rearward part of the band 10 will exert tension in a horizontal direction, while the side front portions 11 and 12 will exert tension in an upward direction from the front toward the rear of the body, as seen b the arrows in Fig. 4, thus drawing the eshy parts of the abdomen upwardly, and inwardly, while also maintaining the desirtension or flap 20 is that while the elastic tension extends normally transversely of the flap, the flap' 20 will, when the garment is in position on the body, exert pressure in varidering it necessary to launder the balance of I the garment.
The present garment, when worn under a bathing suit, for instance, retains the abdomen and waist line in a desirable and becomin gmanner. The elasticity andnon-elasticity I of the materials used, and the manner in which the garment is cut, prevents protrusion of fatt portions of the waist line and abdomen. he presence of the garment is not observable, and the same acts as an aid to more perfect form and thus contributes toward the wearers sense of modesty as well as'comfort.
