Description
NOV; 1931- w. F. JOHNSON 1,830,109 I GUARD ATTACHMENT FOR WRINGERS Filed Dec. 8, 1930 ?otente Nova 3, l$31 4 E. JOHNWN, O11 UTIOA, NEW Sl'tlEtK, AESXGNOB 01F ONE-LIE TO GEKJRGE 3',
ERVIN, E UTICA, NEW Y'UBIK GUARD ATTACEEEM'E 1 9B W'BINGERS Application med December 8, 1930.
My invention relates to a guard attachment for wringers and I declare the following to be e full, clear, concise and exact description thereof, sufiicient to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it appertains to make end use the some, reference being had to the nccompanying drawings in which like relerence cheracters refer to like parts through out.
The object of the invention is to provide o device to facilitate feeding the wet clothes to the rollers of the wringer without the danpger heretofore experienced of catching the fingers in seid rollers.
Furthermore, the device is designed also to prevent that portion of clothes which has passed through the rollers from. adhering to the same end returning thereon.
Moreover, the attachment is provided with demountable means for easily and quickly ottaching it to a wringer.
"lflie object will be understood by referring the drawings, in which l is s. perspective view oi the device.
2 is a plan view showing parts broken sway.
Fig". 3 is a side elevation of the device showing :a portion cl a wringer in dotted lines.
l referring more particularly to the drawthe device embodies base plate 1 it let oi. suitable width to accommodate the clothes being led to wringer 2 illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 3.
it side member 4: is attached to each of the opposite sides of plate 1. Side member 4: is equipped with an upstanding bracket 5 having aperture adapted to form a hearing tor stationary shaft 6. Shaft 6 extends across late 1 to bracket 5 on the opposite side. I; flanged roller 10 is mounted to turn on shell; 6. An endless fabric belt is run upon flanged roller 10 at one end, and at the other upon flanged roller 16. Roller 16 turns upon adjustable stationary shaft 17 that has bearings at opposite ends in the open slots 20, 20 made in upstanding members 21, 21.
lhe means for making shaft 17 adjustable embodies screw bolts 22, 22 which are screw mounted respectively to each of the upstand- Serial No. 500,?83.
The means for securing the attachment to wringer 2 embodies depending brackets ll, l7 formed on the lower snrfece of plate 1. An aperture is made in each of the brackcts l7. l? for the reception of a bolt 50. Bolt proiccts therebeyond through sleeve 51 of bracket its outer end is threaded tor en agement with a tightening member 53. A handle is mounted to member 53 to aid in turning the same. Each of brackets 52 is attached to wringer l2 bv screws 60. lnasmuch as sleeves 51. 51 oi brackets 52, 52 are disposed between the outer surfaces of depending: brackets 47, 47 and the contiguous surfaces of members 53, 58. the turning of members 53, 53 by handles 55, 55, will pinch sleeves 51, 51. between said parts to hold the attachment at the proper angle to Wringer 2.
In operation the clothes are placed upon the endless belt 15 which is moved by its contact with the contiguous'surfaces of re volving rollers i5, or" Wringer 2 between which said rollers 45, 45 said belt 15 is disposed. The operator in feeding the clothes not shown, to wringer 2 Will be unable catch his fingers between revolving rollers 45, 45 because of the intervention of the hooded guard 36.
Instead of using a tightening member 53 on the end of each of the bolts 50, it may be found desirable to employ a nut 56 on one of the bolts as illustrated in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is as follows:
1. In a guard attachment for wringers an endless belt, rollers for supporting" said belt one of said rollers being adjustable toward and from the other, a guard member form-- inea hood for partially housing said belt, said guard member having an extension to prevent the clothes from returning on the wring'er and means for adjusting said adjustable roller.
2. In a guard attachment for Wring'ers, rollers for supporting an endless belt. one of said rollers mounted in open slots, bolts for moving said roller, whereby to adjust the tension of said belt, a, guard member forminn a three sided hood for partially covering said belt, said guard member having a forwardly extending: part with a rubber strin to prevent the clothes from returning through the wringer and means for supporting said guard member in an adjustable manner with reference to said wringer.
In testimony whereof l have al fixed my signature.
WILLIAM F. JQHNSUH.
