Objects An object of the invention is to provide an improved sub-surface hangar for dirigibles with means for aligning with and housing a dirigible in the hangar.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sub-surface hangar for dirigibles, which will be equipped with longitudinally extending, transversely slidable trussed roof sections capable of being moved to uncover the hangar when a dirigible is being placed therein or being removed therefrom, and of being brought together to cover the hangar when desired, thereby protecting the hangar and dirigible housed therein from the elements such as rain, wind and lightning.

Description It is a well known fact that almost all hangars employed today are built above the surface of the ground, and hence, are sub- 1929. serial No. 372,857.
ject to high winds, rain and lightning, which often demolish the hangars and destroy the expensive dirigible housed therein. It is, therefore, a decided step in advance to construct a hangar for dirigibles below the surface of the ground, where a dirigible may be stored and housed with a maximum of safety, and ease in placing the dirigible within the hangar, or removing the same therefrom.
In constructing my improved form of hangar, I excavate an elongated hole in the earth which will be considerably longer and wider than the length and width of the largest dirigible to be housed in the hangar.,
At each side of the opening, I also excavate several feet in depth from the sides of the opening to a distance of approximately the width of the hangar per se, which shallower excavations will extend the full length of they hangar, and will accommodate the transi versely slidable trussed roof sections.
The side walls and floor of the hangar and the floor and walls of the laterally extending excavations will then be covered by a strong, relatively thick coating of reinforced cement l, as clearly shown in the drawings.
A telescoping mooring mast 2 will be positioned within the hangar at one end thereof, and may be extended well above the surface of the ground when desired, or may be moved together to be completely received within the vertical limits of the hangar, and is provided with the usual form of connecting mechanism for securing the nose 3 of a dirigible 4, thereto.
A plurality of Winches 5 will be positioned at the opposite sides of the hangar, on the floor thereof, and on the surface of the ground, and yare provided with cables G for C' connecting with the dirigible and to assist in aligning the same above the hangar.
