This invention relates to improvements in containers or holders for firearms and the like, whereby the weapon is held securely in position and its inst-ant withdrawal is assured.
It is known. that holsters made of any adequate material, such as leather` fabric, andv the like, are generally used by carriers of lirearn'is, attached to the body by means o'a belt, or carried loose. Such holsters are generally provided with a leather strap or other means closing over the handle of the weapon by'means of a clasp, button, or the like. This type of holster, however, has the disadvantage that the strap must first he unfastened before the weapon can be withdrawn from the holster, which causes a great deal of inconvenience and also danger to the carrier, and the strap or other means are therefore often left uniastened leaving the weapon loose-in the holster, which might in turn cause the` weapon to becomeaccidentallyV withdrawn from the holster and discharged, or lost.V
The object of this linventionis toprovide a simple and inexpensive containeror holster for firearms and thev like, which is superior to those heretofore made in that the weapon may he more rapidly and conveniently placed in the holster and, when so placed, will be firmly heldy against accidental displacement or discharge, while its instant voluntary withdrawal is assured'.
In carrying outA this invention resilient loop members or the like are arranged adjacent the upper inner edge of the holster or the like, which permit the weapon to be freely and easily inserted and at the same time hold it firmly in position so that it will not become dislodged under the carriers various movements, while only a slight effort with one hand will be necessary to eXtricat'e the weapon from the holster. f In the accompanying drawings a form embodying the invention is illustrated.
Figure I is a front sectional view of a holster in accordance with the invention. Fig.- II shows the weapon within the holster. Fig. III is a side sectional view of an empty holster.
p rIhe holster l is provided with two resilient I loop members 2 adjacent its upper inner edge, between which a revolver or a similar weapon is inserted and 1s prevented'from being dislodged by the pressure and frictional suriace contact otI the loop membersQ upon portion 4 of the revolver. lVhen the weapon is being withdrawn from the holster, the loop 'members 2 become enlarged or double hack I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a holster for. revolvers and' similar weapons a pair of opposed flexible, resilient loops, located adjacent the upper inner edge of the holster and extending downward into vthe same, adapted to make frictiona-l surface Contact with theweapon and hold it firmlyV in position and to be enlarged or doubled backfto increase'the resistance uponfwithdrawal of the weapon from the holster.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
MANUEL MARIA ARIAS.
