the sash. Another object is to provide a simple construction for holding the stool'in place. A further object is to provide a simple construction for holding the sash in placefrelative to the wall sill. With these as well as other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and comv binations and arrangements of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section through the sill portion .of a window construction,em bodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing a modification;
Figure 4 is a cross section on the line`4-4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a perspe of Figure 3;
Figures 6 and 7 are views similar to Figure 3, showing modication.
The invention is particularly applicable to all metal window constructions and as shown the wall has at the lower end of its window opening 1 the stone and brick or tile sill portions 2 and 3, respectively. The window sash, which is preferably of metal, is set into tive view of a portion the' window opening and has the lower bar 4,
which is provided with the downwardly opening channel 5. 6 is one of a pair of anchoring clips, preferably formed of sheet metal, for the sash having at one end the upwardly extending iiange .portion 7 engaging in the downwardly opening channel and secured to the lowerbar byI means of the screw 8 and at the other end the depending. tongue 9, which extends between the stone and brick or tile sill portions 2 and3, respectively, andis securely anchored therebetween.
10 is the window stool which forms part of the frame work, this stool being preferably formed of sheet metal and extending within the window opening and beneath the inner portion of the lower sash bar 4. This stool has at its inner `edge the de ending portion 11, which terminates in the d) outwardl inclined portion 12 at the inner side of t e brick or .tile sill portion of the walL To take care of variations in the thickness of the wall and more particularly of the brick or tile sill portion suiiicient clearance is provided between the outer e e of the stool and the upwardly extending igange portion 7 of the anchoring clip to permit the stool be- A ing moved relative to the lower sash bar.
13 is a finishing strip referably formed 'of metal. This strip is a apted to extend beneath the'lower sash bar 4 and is adjustably secured to 'the stool 10 as bymeans of the rivets 14, which extend through the slots 15 extendin transversely of the stool, the purpose of t e adjustment being to provide for the adjustment of the stool relative to the lower sash bar.
For holding the stool in place, I have provided the anchoring clipsv 16, which are spaced longitudinall of the stool and are adapted to be secure to the inner side of the brick or tile sill portion 3. Each of these clips has an upper portion 17 which is upwardly and inwardly inclined atan angle corresponding to the portion 12 of the stool and which is adapted to be secured thereto as by means of the rivet 18. A
In assembling, the window .sash may be secured in the window opening, after which the stool with the finishing strip and its anchoring clips may be secured in place, vthis stool being inserted into the window opening and its outer edge being passed beneath the lower sash bar. Then the plaster may be placed upon the sides of the window opening and upon the inner side of the wall.
In the modification shown in Figures 3,4 and 5, provision is made for placing the heating radiator beneath the stool, this .radiator 19 being located within a recessl inthe portion of the wall, part of the brick or tile sill portion beingremoved. In this modication the anchoring clips for the lower sash bar 20 'are each formed with an upwardly lextending flange portion 21 arranged within the downwardl opening channel of the lower sash bar. urthermore, each clip is'proownwardly and- IIICIIIGAN, AssIGNon Iro nFJrnLoIr STEEL Inonvided with the lognitudinally spaced depend-I ing tongues 22 and 23 which together are adapted to embrace a part ofthe stone sill member 24, the tongue 22 being at the outer .edge and the tongue 23 being at the'inner edge and adjacent to the brick or tile sill portion 25. Each of these anchoring clips is further provided with the lateral tongue 26 which extends over the brick or tile sill portion and is adjustably secured to the support 27 for engaging the radiator hangers 28. The arrangement of the window stool 29 and the finishing strip 30 is very similar to that of t-he window stool 10 and the finishing stri 13, the stool anchoring clips 31 being locate beyond the ends of the recess in the Wall for receiving the radiator. This stool, however, is provided with the grill portion 32 above the radiator to provide for heat radiation.
ln the modification shown in Figure 6, the arrangement of parts is very similar to that shown in Figures l and 2, with the exception that the wall sill and more particularl the brick or tile sill portion is formed wit the air duct 33 and thestool 34 is formed with the grill portion 35 above the air duct providing for the escape of air from this duct.
The modification shown in Figure -7 is very similar to that shown in Figure 6, the grill portion 36 being formed of a separate sheet metal plate, which is secured to the stool.
What ll claim as my invention is:
1. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a `window sash in the opening, of a stool separate from said sash and extending into the opening beneath the sash, and an anchoring clip secured to the wall at the inner side thereof and having a portion for holding the stool from upward movement at its inner edge.
2. The combination with a wall having a Window opening, of a stool extending into the opening, and an anchoring clip secured to the wall at the inner side thereof and having a portion for holding the stool from upward movement at its inner edge.
3. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a window sash in the opening, of a stool extending within the opening and beneath the sash, and a finish strip between the sash and stool and extending beneath the sash.
4. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a sill member at the lower end of the opening and a Window sash in the opening having a lower bar with a downwardly opening channel, of means for holding the sash in place, including a clip having a portion engaging within the downwardly opening channel and longitudinally spaced depending anchoring portions embracing a portion of the sill.
5. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a sill member at the Leaaeea lower end of the openingand a window sash in the opening having a lower bar with a downwardly opening channel, of means for securing the sash in place including a clip having an upwardly extending portion within the Adownwardly opening channel, and longitudinally spaced depending tongues embracing the slll member.
` 6. The combination with a wall yhaving a window opening and a window sash in the openin of a stool extending into the'opening an beneath the sash and provided with a grill ortion intermediate its inner and outer e ges, and an anchoring clip at the inner side of the wall having a portionengagino` the stool at its inner edge to hold the same from upward movement.
7. The combination with a wall having a Window opening and a frame member in the opening, of a stool separate from said frame member and extending into the opening with one of its edges beneah said frame member, an anchoring clip carried by the wall, and means engaging said clip and the opposite edge of the stool foi` holding the same against displacement.
l8. The combination with'a wall having a Window opening and a frame member in the opening, of a stool extending into the opening beneath the frame member and provided with a grill portion, and an anchoring clip at the inner side of thewall having a portion engagingthe stool at the inner edge thereof to hold the same from upward movement.
9. The combination with a Wall having a window opening and a sill member at the lower end of the opening and a window sash in the opening having a lower bar, of means for holding the sash in place, including a clip having a portion engaglng said bar and longitudinally spaced depending anchoring portions embracing a portion of the sill.
10. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a window sash in the opening, of a stool separate from said sash and extending into the opening beneath the sash, and an anchoring clip secured to the wall at the inner side thereof and having a portion fixedly connected to the inner edge of the stool for preventing displacement thereof.
11. The combination with a wall having a window opening and a window frame in the opening, of a stool extending into the opening beneath said frame and having a depending flange at its inner edge, and an anchoring clip secured to the wall at the vinner side thereof and having a portion fixedly connected to said dange for preventing displacement of said stool.
lln testimony whereof ll affix my signature.
GUSTAF IVAR BARCLAY.
