Description
G. E. KRlDER Sept. 22, 1931.
CRUSHER ROLL Filed Dec. 16, 1929 A tiorney Patented Sept. 22, 1931 ETED STATES GEORGE EDWARD KRIDER, OF DUNGANSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO MGLANA- n HAN-STONE MACHINE COMPANY, OF HOLLIDAYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPO- RATION OF PENNSYLVANIA CRUSHER ROLL Application filed December 16, 1929. Serial No. 414,449.
This invention relates to rolls particularly adapted for use in hard stone crushers and has as its primary objectthe provision of such a roll as will crush the material in such a manner as to have the particles of the crushed material broken up into particles cubical in form and not into long slabs or slivers as results from the type of rolls now generally in use for such crushing purposes.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a roller of the character above mentioned having formed on the periphery thereof a plurality of spaced annular ribs cooperating with longitudinal circumferentially spaced ribs or teeth formed on the roll,
whereby the material crushed will be substantially cubical in shape instead of elongated. 7
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an end elevation of one form of crusher roll embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail sectional View thereof, taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure a is a fragmentary end elevation of another form of crusher roll embodying the features of the present invention.
Figure 5 is a front elevational View thereof.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary detail sectional view thereof taken substantially on the line 66 of Figure 5.
lVith reference more in detail to the drawings, and particularly to Figures 1. to 3, inclusive, it will be seen that that form of the invention as embodied in these figures comprehends the provision of a crusher roll designated generally by the reference character 5, said roll 5 on the periphery thereof being provided with longitudinally extending circumferentially spaced ribs or teeth 6, the teeth 6 extending from one end to the other of said roll. The roll is further provided With a plurality of spaced annular ribs 7 i outer edges of the annular ribs 7 as clearly 1- suggested in Figure 1. The annular ribs 7 extend between the longitudinal ribs 6 and cooperate therewith to provide on the outer periphery of the 'roll relatively small recesses 8.
In actual practice, it will be seen that during the crushing operationythe particles'of the rock or stone crushed by the roll will attain the form or shape of the recesses 8 so that the cut particles will be substantially cubical in configuration, instead of being broken into elongated slab-like pieces or slivers.
In that form of the invention shown in Figures 4 to 6 inclusive, there is employed longitudinally spaced teeth 9, alternate ribs being formed with such teeth 9, the teeth of one series being arranged in staggered relation to the teeth of the next adjacent series as shown to advantage in Figure 5. In all other respects, the roll is similar to the roll as embodied in the first described embodiment of the invention and in this embodiment of the invention shown in Figures 4 to 6, inclusive,
the crushed particles will also assume the forms of cubicals, as would be the case in the absence of such teeth 9.
It is thought that from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, a clear understanding of the operation, construction, utility and advantages of a rock crusher roll of this char acter will be had by those skilled in the art Without a more detailed description.
Having thus described my invention what I wish to claim is 1. A crusher roll for rock crushing niachines or the like, having on its peripheral surface a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinally extending ribs and spaced annular ribs intersecting said longitudinal ribs, all of said ribs cooperating to provide recesses of substantially cubical formation, said longitudinally extending ribs having their outer edges projecting beyond the outer edges of said annular ribs.
2.,A crusher roll for rock crushing Ina chines or the like, having on its peripheral surface a plurality of circumferentially spaced longitudinally extending ribs, and spaced annular ribs intersecting said longitudinal ribs, all of said ribs cooperating to provide recesses of substantially cubical formation, longitudinally extending ribs hav-- 7 ing their outer edges projecting beyond the outer edges of said annular ribs, and alternating longitudinal ribs being each provided with a. series of longitudinally spaced teeth extending outwardly therefrom.
3. A crusher roll for rock crushing Inachines or the like, having on its peripheral surface a plurality of circuinferentially spaced longitudinally extending ribs, and spaced annular ribs intersecting said longitudinal ribs, all of said ribs cooperating to provide recesses of substantially cubical formation, longitudinally extending ribs having their outer edges projecting beyond the outer edges of said annular ribs, and alternating longitudinal ribs being each provided with a series of longitudinally spaced teeth extending outwardly therefrom, the teeth of one series being'a'rranged in alternate relation to the teeth of the next adjacent series.
4. A crusher roll comprising a plurality of ribs, certain of which extend longitudinally of the roll for substantially the full length thereof, and the remaining ribs extending circuinf-erentially with respect to the roll and cooperating with the first mentioned ribs to provide substantially cubical recesses on the working face of the roll, and crushing teeth integral with certain of the ribs.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GEORGE EDWARD KRIDER.
