Description

8, 1931. E. F. BAR'RON 1,819,063 INDICATING on ORDER CARD Filed Dc. 18, 1950 7 CREM/IOUART/K' /3 a a nion.
Patented Aug. 18, 1931 EMMA FLORA BAR-RON, or ASH'LAND, PEN NSY VANIA INDIGATING ORGRDER CARD 3 Application filed December 18, 1930.@'Seria1 No. 503,298.
-- This invention relates to improvements'in indicating devices and pertains particularly to a device designed for the purpose of notifying a .tradesman as to the amount of a a commodity tobeidelivereda The primary object ofthe present invention is to, provide a device to be used particularly for ordering milk and cream, wherein means is provided for indicating the desired amount of milk or cream wanted and wherein certain elements may be shifted toa predetermined position for the purpose of notifying the-milk man that no milk or cream is'desired. i a I I Still anotherobject of the invention is to provide an indicator card: sodesigned that an extra card may be 'mountedthereon to carry information for the milk man, not forming apermanentpa'rt of the indicia on the card. i
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the top thereof.
showing of the drawing but may be changed I or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the indicator embodying the present invention.
, scribed.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the.
line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference indicate correspondlng parts throughout the.
several views, the numeral 1 indicates a card which may be of any appropriate material, cardboard being preferred as the de-: vice may be economically produced by using this material. The card 1 is provided at its upper end with an aperture 2 by means of which it may be hung up in posia made to standfupright.
The face of the card is dividedinto two vertically arranged groups of spaces disposed in spaced relation upon opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the card, the spaces upon one side being indicated by the numerals 3 and having the notation milk 4: at the top thereof while the spaces upon the other side, which are indicated by the numerals 5, have the notation cream, as indicated at 6, at the "Beneath the word cream is printed pint, as indicated at 7, and beneath the v v;ord -milk is printed quart and in the columns: beneath these words are figures indicatingdifferent amounts as, for example, in the cream column there are the figures 1, 11/ and 2 and in the mill:
column'therelare the figures .,"1,12
The er'aeaifomh gof spaces 3 and 5 are enclosed inan area defined by'the border linesQ andatjthe top ofthis area between thelupper onesof thespaees 3 and 5 there is providedithecentral space 10 in which, at one ,side, is printed in large letters the word no and at thev opposite side, in smaller. letters and-one above the other, the words cream and milk, .At. the bottom of the areadefined by the lines 9 is a pair of ,spacedyertically arranged slits 11., the purpose" of which-will be hereinafter de- In the central portion of thef area in iotallyfmounted upon a button 12, which passes through thebody ofthe card, the jtwo'hands '13; These hands'are held sufiicientlytightbetween the enlarged endsof thefbutton to; cause them to retainany positionjto-whichthey may be shifted.
hich--tl 1espaces'3, 5 and 10 lie there'is piv- The top of the card 1 above the area defined by the lines 9 may bear' th e caption .fmi-lk,"as shown, or any other legend desired and the portion ofthe card below this 'jarea I may' be ;employed for advertising fp l poses,
the use of present device, if both milk and cream are desired, notice of this fact may be given the milk man by arranging the hands 13 in the manner indicated so that one of the hands may point to 1, etc., on the cream side, indicating the desire for or 1 pint of cream and the other hand may be arranged to point to any or the figures selected to indicate the number of quarts of milk or fraction thereof desired.
If only milk and no cream is desired then one of the hands may be directed toward the proper figure inthe milk column, while the other may be directed toward the space 10 in which the words no cream-milk is printed so that the delivery man will understand that as milk has been ordered cream is not wanted. It will, of course, be apparent that if neither milk nor cream is wanted than both hands may be directed toward the words in the space 10.
If an amount of cream or milk greater than the amounts indicated on the card is wanted then the desired amount may be printed upon a slip of paper, such as is indicated in Figure 3 by the numeral l l, and the ends of this slip may be inserted in the slots 11 of the card so that the slip will be held in position across the central lower portion of the area 9, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1.
If the order is for additional milk the amount wanted may be printed upon the right hand side so as to be closest to the column of spaces under the word milk and one of the hands may then be arranged to indicate the figure upon the slip.
From the foregoing it will be readily appreciated that with an indicator of the character herein described instructions may be easily and clearly givento a milk man or to persons delivering other commodities, in which case, as will be readily understood, the terms upon the card indicating the articles wanted will be changed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: V
1. An indicator of the character described, comprising a card having thereon two columns of figures indicating quantities of a commodity to be ordered, and a selected commodity name printed at the head of each of said columns, a pair of indicating hands pivotally mounted between said columns each being designed to indicate a quantity in a column, and means whereby a character bearing slip may be added to the card for indicating a quantity desired different from the quantities indicated in the columns.
2. An indicator of the character described, comprising a card, a series of longitudinal and transverse markings on the card dividing the same into two parallel columns of spaces, printed matter heading each of said columns constituting the names of commodities to be ordered, printed characters beneath said commodity names constituting measures of said commodities, quantity indicating characters arranged in the spaces -of each column beneath said measures, and a pair of indicating hands pivotally mounted on the card between said columns and adapted to be shifted to designate a selected one of said numerals, said card having a pair of vertically arranged slits therein each adjacent one of said columns providing means whereby an indicia bearing slip may be attached to the face of the card by inserting one end thereof in each slit.
3. An indicator of the character described, comprising a card having thereon two columns'of figures indicating quantities of a commodity to be ordered and a selected commodity name printed at the head of each of said columns, a pair of indicating hands pivotally mounted between said columns each being designed to indicate a quantity in a column, and means whereby a character bearing slip may be added to the card for indicating a uantity desired different from the quantities indicated in the columns, said means being located in close proximity to said hands whereby said hands may be 'arran ed adjacent and to indicate a character p aced on the slip.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
