One of the objects of this invention is to.
provide a receptacle comprising an integral portion of the device for the reception of the cores or refuse portions cut from the apples.
Another object of the invention is to provide a means to automatically separate the slicing knives from the coring mechanism when the device is in operation, that is, When the apple is cored, the slicing knives may be caused to operate independently of the coring mechanism which is inoperative when the slicing knives function.
Other objects of the device will become apparent as the description thereof given hereunder proceeds, reference being now had to the accompanying drawings, where- 1n:- 1

V A receptacle 1, comprising a cover 2, pivotally secured tothe receptacle by means of the hinge 3, and an open cylindrical extension 4 positioned centrally on the bottom 5 of the receptacle, is mounted on the upper end of an elongated tubular member 6. The upper end of the tubular member 6 is screw threaded as also the interior of the cylindrical extension 4, so that the receptacle 1 may be easily separated from'the tubular member 6 to facilitate cleaning thereof. The cover 2 is provided with a knob 7 secured thereto by means of the bolt 8. The lower end portion 9 of the tubular member 6 is beveled and sharpened where by the same is adapted to function as acore cutter.
Rigidly attached to the upper end portion of the tubular member or core cutter 6 is a flanged ring or collar 10, said collar being so positioned as to abut the cylindrical extension 4' of the receptacle 1. Positlon'e'd on the core cutter 6 is a tubular gulde 11 about half the length of the core cutter 6, adapted to freely slide relative to said core cutter. Two spring. members 12 comprising inwardly extending detent portions 13 are diametrically attached by means of rivets 1 4 to the upper end portion of y the tubular guide 11. The lower portion of the tubular guide 11 has attached thereto in-any'desiredmanner six radially extending slicing knives 15 equally spaced around said tubular guide ll'and formed with a cutting edge 15 on their lower end. Attached to said tubular guide 11 by means of rivets 16 directly above the slicing knives 15 and spaced some distance below the spring members 12 is an outwardly flared guard17. V I The mode of operation of the device is as follows The apple 18 is held in the left hand, and the device in the right hand, the springs 12 being depressed by the fingers so that the detent portions 13 engage the ring or collar 10. The core cutter 6 is positioned centrally on the apple 18 and pushed through the same, the core 19 being cut and. held in the core cutter 6. When the corecutter 6 is through the apple the slicing knives 15 will be positioned directly over the top thereof, as shown in Figure 1, the pressure on the springs 12 being then released and the'slicing knives then pushed through the apple 18, slicingthe same into six equal parts 20. The tubular guide 11 is then pulled back and the device is then ready to core and slice another apple, the, succeeding core pushing the prior core into the'receptacle land so on.
It is to be understood that the device shown is only a preferred embodiment thereof and is susceptible of various changes within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. In a .coring and slicing device, a tubular core cutter, a refuse receptacle attached to the upper end thereof, a collar secured to said core cutter, a tubular guide slidably mounted on said core cutter, a plurality of radially extending slicing knives attached to the lower portion of said tubular guide, a flared guard secured to said guide directly above said slicing knives, and a pair of diametrically disposed spring members attached to the upper end of said tubular guide and adapted to be caused to engage said collar.

In a coring and slicing device, a tubular core cutter, a refuse receptacle attached to the upper end thereof, a collar secured to said core cutter, a tubular guide slidably mounted on said core cutter, a plurality "of radially extending slicing knives attached to the lower portion of said tubu'larguide, a flared guard secured to said guide directly above said slicing knives, and a pair of diametrically disposed spring members attached to the upper end of said tubular guide and adapted to be caused to engage said collar, said spring members having formed on their upper portions inwardly disposed detent portions normally clearing said collar.
