This invention relates to an electric socket. It has for one object, to provide a socket which is substantially unbreakable. Another object is to provide a socket which may be assembled b hand without the use of tools. Another object is to provide a socket in which tension cannot come upon the individual wires so that undue strain does not fall upon them when the light is in use or carried about from place to place. Another object is to provide in a socket of the type described, means 'for readily fastening a clamping and guarding device to the exterior of the socket. Other objects will appear '16 `irene time to time throughout the specification and claims.
This inventionis illustrated more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, wherein: f m .Figure l is a side elevation with parts.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross-section on an enlarged scale. l v Figure 3 is a transverse cross-section taken $5 on a line 3-3 of Figure 2. v
Figure'e is a similar transverse crosssection taken on line 4--4 of Fi ure 2.
Figure 5 is a partial lon 'tu inal crosssection taken on line 5-5 yo Figure 4. l0 Figure 6 is a view generally similar to Figure 2 with parts omitted and showing a modified form. p y
Fi ure 7 is a perspective view of the adjusta le endVw-all or lug. l Like arts are designated by like char' acters t roughout.
A is' a tubular member which in the form here shown serves both as the container for the socket and wiring parts, and for the c insulator. It is provided on its exterior with a relatively small Aannular groove A1 and a larger roove A2. `'A1 is a shoulder. vWithin the t` a pair of channels A", As l are provided. .These terminate in shoulders l A4. There are thus left between the channels A3 slightly raised portions or lands A5. Adjacent one end of the tube is\the internal annular groove or de ression A.
B is a socket mein er provided with the D relatively/enlargedend portion B1 and car- 1927. Serial No. 206,514.
rying a socket portion B1. As shown espe-v cially in Figures 3 and 4, the member B, B1 is'provided with cut-away portions Bf in its sides, within which wiring connectionsl B4 are positioned. The portions of the mem 55 bers B, B2`and the shape and -arran ement ofthecut-away portions B8 is such t at the raised portions A of the tube A fit into the cut-away portions B3 of the member Bv and thus preventing lateral twisting or rotation of this' part.
,C is a lu adapted to fit within one 4end of the tuge and to lie close to the groove or depression A". C1 is a spring ring which is fitted into the groove or depression A6; 65l when the plug C is in position and when so assembled, the lug is held Vagainst accidental outward displacement. C2 is a central perforation in the plu C through which the lighting cable or conduit C8 may pene- 70 trate. f
vD, D are clamping parts adapted to be held to ether by screws D1, D1. hey are -fitted a out the inner end of the cible Ca yso as to grip it tightly. The clamp or 76 abutment D normally bears against the in-v ner face of the plug C and thus when the lamp is carried by the cable, as frequently happens, any strain which comes upon the cable either through the weight of the lamp 80 itself, or for any other reason, is carried, not by the inner conductin member C4, nor by small set screws B* w ich fasten it' to the socket but by the cable and cable casing Cs 'as a whole, clampedby the clamp D, D 85 which bears against the inner `face of the plu screw.
is a spring ring. adapted to fit into the groove or depression A1. About it a base F may be positioned" as shown particularly 90 in Figures l and 2. This base embraces the outer end of Athe tube A and engages the ring E. The base F may carry as here shown, a ca e F1 which serves as a protection for the ight.
Gis a gripping part assembly held in the depression A2 by a screw, G1. This gripping part may be attached to -a clamp and handle or other part by means of which the light may be used, positioned ,or adjusted. 10
The details of this apparatus form no part of the present invention and are therefore not shown in detail.
The interior diameter of the tube A is preferably provided with, or formed so as to have two dimensions. This appears articularly in Figure 5,' the channels A ing formed vin the smaller part of the tube.
There is shown in Figure 6, a modified `form in which the interior of the tube A is threaded. A threaded plug H is 'provided to close the end of the tube A and to hold the parts in position. it has a hole H1 which is preferably located centrally and may also be providedwith a slot H2 for a screw-driver or 'other tool by means of which it is screwed into or out of position. Byv thus providing thesocket container or tube A with a screw-threaded plug or end'v -wish-.my description and drawings to be taken vin a sense diagrammatic.
