- The invention formingthe subject matter of this application relates to expansion or bushing wrenches.
When pipes aresecured in place, usually afpipe Wrench or the like is" employed for gripping the outer periphery of one end of the pipe, and forturning the same in the vdesired direction thereby to threadedly secure 'the pipe in position. When the pipe 10 is positioned withina .wall and the end thereof protrudes beyond the surface of the wall but a short distance or is rendered entirely inaccessible then it is impossible to grip the end of the pipe by means of' a pipe wrench, orthe like.' In such instances the plumber "uses anextension, such as a nipple, threaded on the end of the pipe and protruding' beyond the wall s'urjface to a suflicient distance to allow the gripping thereof 2 by the usual wrench, thus the pipe is manipulated through an extension temporarily attached'to the end thereof.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a' wrench adapted to extend Within a wall or othercovering surface and to frictionally engage the inside-periphery of the end of a pipe disposed behind said surface, thereby allowing the gripping and turning of thepipe by atool disposed beyond the end of the pipe.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a wrench the gripping members "'or jaws of, which are capable of frictional engagement with the inner periphery of the *end of a pipe; said jaws are brought into said frictional engagement by being moved apart from each other on account of the .usual manipulation of the handles of the wrench; the insertion ofthe jaws into the 40 end of any. tubular member is rendered .pos-
sible by the extension of the jaws beyond *thesides of thehandles of the wrench; the
relative, position of the handles being adjustable seas to varythe spacing between i the grippingmembers or jaws, whereby the 'use of thewrench in connectionwith pipes "of different diameters is greatly facilitated.
c Other objects of the invention are 'to provide a device of the character described that willfbe superior in point of simplicity, in-
expensiveness of construction, positiveness of operation, and facility and convenience in use and general efficiency.
In this specification and the annexed drawings the invention is illustrated in the form considered to be the best, but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to such form because it may be embodied in other forms; and it is also to be understood that in and by the claims following the description it is desired to cover the invention in whatsoever form it maybe embodied.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout, the various figures described above adequately illustrate my invention and the following detailed de scription is commensurate with the above mentioned drawings in enabling an artisan to construct and assemble the constituent parts of the same. In carrying out my invention I make use of handles 6 and 7, one end of each handle is bent substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axes of the handles. The end of the handle 6, is bent in the direction of the handle 7, forming an arm 8; the end of the handle 7 is'bent away from the handle 6 and substantially in parallelism with the arm 8, so as to form an upwardly extending arm 9, as illustrated, in the drawings. v.The arm 9 is shorter than the arm 8 so that the upper ends of the arms are in alignment with each.

A wrench comprising a pair of oppositely disposed cooperating semi-cylindrical internal jaws transversely disposed and intermediately integral with perpendicular portions of a pairof cooperating levers, one of said levers being pivotally mounted inthe upper end of a yoke and having formed on the under surface a toothed sector eccentric to said pivot, the other of said levers having formed in the top surface, a toothed rack adapted for engagement with said toothed sector, said other lever being slidable in said yoke.
4.- In combination, a toothed rack, formed on the inner longitudinal edge of a right angle bar, a semi-cylindrical jaw projecting transversely from both sides adjacent to the end of the slidably retained in a yoke, a toothed sector integral with a second right angle bar and disposed on the outer longitudinal edge, a semi-cylindrical jaw for projecting transversely from both sides adjacent to the end of the short leg thereof and adapted to cooperate with said first named semi-cylindrical jaw to form an inside gripping chuck, said second right angle bar being pivoted eccentrically of said toothed sector toward said jaw and within said yoke. In combination, a yoke, a right angle lever pivoted in said yoke, a second right angle lever slidable in said yoke, transverse inner periphery gripping jaws integral with the short'arms of said levers, and engaging said levers whereby a closing movement of the long arms of said levers causes a substantially longitudinal outward movement of said sec- 0nd right angle lever relative to said oke, said jaws projecting from both sides 0 said levers.
