IMPROVEMENT IN MOCCASIN BOOTS. I
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 18 L444, dated August 22, 1876; application filed February 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETH T. HUTGHINS, of Anson, in the county of Somerset, State of Maine, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boot-Moccasins, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my inventionappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an isometricalperspective view,
and Fig. 2 plan views, of the'vamp, toe-piece, and quarters.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing.
My invention relates to that class of boots known as moccasins, and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawing, A represents the leg, cut
in one piece and united in front by the seam and rear stifl'ening-piece. A vamp (best seen at D in Fig. 2) is connected to the toe-piece by the scam I, and extends upwardly above the body F, being also secured to the lower front portion of the leg, as shown at a.
The quarters are elongated, as seen at H, so that when the parts are united the elongated portion extends upwardly over the lower or stiffening for the heel.
It will be obvious that, aside from'the straps, my improved moccasin consists of but three pieces or parts, greatly simplifying the construction and reducing the cost of manufacture.
The seams are preferably formed by means of metallic rivets; but other means for uniting the parts may be employed, if desired. I also prefer to extend the quarters, and provide them Fig. 1. What I claim is A bootmoccasin having a single seam at the front portion of the leg, and the Vamp, sole, and quarters, formed of the patterns D F, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.

rear portion of the leg A, to form a support I with eyelet-holes and strings, as seen at G in
