EYEBROW STENCIL Filed Aug. 30. .1929
22: x (fw Patented `lune 30, 1931 UNITED STATES GERD WOSSE, F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS Application led August 30, 1929. Serial No. 389,395.
In the art of facial make-up, it has been the mode to have thin or hair-line eyebrows which are produced by pulling out certain of the eyebrow hairs, leaving a thin line of '5 eyebrow hairs`over each of the eyes. After the eyebrows have been properly plucked, it has been the custom to darken or color the eye; brows by means of eyebrow pencils to produce the desired effect. In preparing the eyebrows and in painting or darkening the same, considerable difficulty has been encountered in that individuals not skilled in the art are likely to paint the eyebrows irregularly and beyond the boundary lines intended, thereby making it necessary to remove the eyebrow v pencil marks which are crooked or which extend beyond the boundaries desired. The removal ofthe eyebrow pencil marks' is diicult and mussy and, therefore, is desired to be overcome.
This invention relates to improved eyebrow stencils adapted to be conveniently applied over the eyebrows of a person to permit the -eyebrow pencil to be used in combination with the stencil openings to positively apply eyebrow darkening material or pencillingr 1n a desired position to give the appearance ofproperly and artistically shaped hair-line eyebrows.
It is an object of this invention to provide improved eyebrow stencilling devices adapted to be removably applied over the eyebrows of a person to permit the eyebrows to be properly and artistically painted.
It is also an object of this invention to provide eyebrow stencilling devices consisting of plates having tapered slots formed therein adapted to be positioned over the eyebrows of a person to permit the eyebrows to be painted evenly.
It is a further object of this invention to provide slotted stencilling members adapted to be held in position over the eyebrows of a persons head to permit the eyebrows to be painted evenly to produce a desired hair-line effect.
It is an ,important object of this invention to provide stencilling-.means for a persons eyebrows, said stencilling means consisting of plates shaped to aiord handles and body portions which are provided with slots adapted to be positioned over a persons eyebrows to permit the eyebrows to be painted to produce hair-line eiects.
Other and further important obj ects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.
This invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ladys head having applied over the eyebrows stencilling devices embodying the principles of this invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the left eyebrow stencilling device.
Figure 3 is an outer face view of the left eyebrow stencilling device.
Figure 4 is an edge view of the right eyebrow stencilling device.
Figure 5 is a front face view of the right eyebrow stencilling device.
Figure 6 is a detailed transverse section taken on line VI--VI of Figure 5 illustrating the depressed marginal edges of the stencil slot.
Figure 7 is a transverse sectional view similar to that illustrated in Figure 6 of a modified form of eyebrow stencil.
Figure 8 is a sectional view similar to that shown in Figure 6 of another modified form of eyebrow stencil, illustrati-ng beveled marginal edges for the eyebrow stencil slot.
Figure 9 is an inside view of a modified form of a duplicate type of eyebrow stencilling device, permitting both eyebrows to be painted by the use of a single stencilling device.
As shown on the drawings:
The improved eyebrow stencil as illustrated in Figures l to 6 inclusive of the drawings comprises a pair of stencilling members 'consisting of a right eyebrow stencilling member and a left eyebrow stencilling member. Each of the eyebrow stencilling members comprising the pair consists of a handle or shank l which is curved concave-- convex, dished or shaped as illustrated in Figure 4 and has integrally connected with the inner portion thereof a curved body plate 2 which is tapered outwardly and is deflected into a concavo-convex shape complement-al to the shape or contour ofthe eyebrow ledge of a persons head.
The body or tapered stencilling plate 2 is provided with a longitudinal stencilling slot 1-0 3 which is rounded or oval-shaped at one end and gradually tapered in a curved line to substantially a narrow hair-line slit at the opposite end. The slot in each of the eyebrow stencil members is shaped to correspond to a desired contour which the eyebrows of a person should have when painted by means of an eyebrow pencil or marker.
lBy looking at Figure 1 of the drawings, it will be noted that the right eyebrow stencilling member has the Ioval or rounded renlarged part of the slot 3 at the inner end of the slot, while in the left eyebrow stencilling member, the enlargedvpart of the stencilling slot is near the end of the stencilling plate.
It is customary in beauty parlors and similar establishments to pluck the miscellaneous eyebrow hairs, leaving only such eyebrow hairs as are necessary to provide a narrow tapered Curved eyebrow over each of a persons e es. After the eyebrow hairs have been p ucked, it is desired topaint the remaining eyebrow hairs by means of a pencil or marker. Y'
The eyebrows of a persons head arefadapted to be individually painted or stencilled and the improved stencilling members are,
therefore, provided to permit the eyebrow fio painting to be positively done withoutallowing part of the-pencil marksto extend beyond` the limits of the parts which are to be painted. ;The stencilling devices also prevent crooled painting of the eyebrows, which has been'quite aV drawback in paintingeyebrows byihand without the use of stencils.
To apply the eyebrow stencil, a person merely grasps one of the eyebrow stencil -members by the handle 1 and applies the concave side or surface of the eyebrow stencillingI plate 2 over the particular eyebrow which is to be painted. The handle 1 may rest on the nose arch when the right hand eyebrow is painted, while the handle 1 of the left eyebrow stencilling member may be supported on the left cheek-bone if desired. The stencilling Lslot of the stencil is, of course, applied directly over the eyebrow to be painted and an eyebrow pencilv is then applied to the stencilling slot 3, thereby painting. the eyebrow a predetermined patternlor design .conforming to the shape of the stencil slot. The use of the stencil insures an ve'ii painting of the eyebrows and eliminates the possibility of ragged or .uneven painting.
As illustrated in Figure 6, each of the eyebrow stencil members has the margins of the slot 3 deflected to form a continuous flange to thatillustrated in Figures 3 and 5. In this form of the stencil, the stencil plate 5 is concave-convex and the margins of the slot 6 are left within the plane of the stencil plate 5.
Figure 8 illustrates another modiliedform of an eyebrow stencil consisting of a stencil platelprovided with a stencil slot 8 of tapered curved shape similar to the shape illustrated in Figures 3 and 5 of the drawings.
The marginal edges of the slot 8 are beveled.`
or chamfered at 9 to facilitate applying of the eyebrow pencil to the eyebrows when the stencils are being used.
Figure 9 illustrates a modified form of eyebrow stencil of a multiple type, permitting both of the eyebrows to be paintedl practically at the same time.
The modilied form of eyebrow stencil illustrated in Figure 9 comprises a pair of curved stencil plates or forms 10 connected by means of a flexible or spring bridge piece 11 which is adapted to be opened or compressed to vary thel distance between the stencil plates. Each of the stencil plates 10 is constructed with a stencil slot 12 with the inner ends of said slots enlarged or rounded and with the slots tapering outwardly in a curved direction to correspond with the shape of a persons eyebrows. outer ends of the stencil plates 10 is an elastic retaining band 13 to permit the eyebrow stencil to be held in proper position over the eyebrows of a persons head. The edges forming the stencil slots 12 of -the stencil device may be deflected to ail'ord retaining flanges or beads similar to the construction illustrated in Figure 6, or the edges of said stencilling slots may be constructed similar to the arrangement disclosed in Figures 7 and 8 of the drawings. The flexible bridge piece 11 of the stencildevice illustrated in Figure 9 ali'ords a ready means whereby the device may be adjusted to conform to the shaping of eyebrowson different persons.
The stencilling devices disclosed in these drawings may be constructed of thin, lightweight sheet metal or of any other deslred material which may be properly ilexed, bent and shaped to form the individual eyebrow stencils as illustrated in Figures 3 and 5 or I"the bridge type stencil for both eyebrows as Connected to the 25 end thereof.
v principles of this invention, and it is, therefore, not purposed limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the scope of the appended claims.
