Description

May 12, 1931. .1. MoRAsKY PRICE CHART FOR GASOLINE PUK? BOWLS Filed April 12, 1930 nvcnlor A llorney Patented May 12,' 1931 JOSEIH-MORA'SKY, 0F .'BRODHEAD, COLORADO vPRICE CHART F01@ GASOLINE PUMP BOWLS Application led April 12,
This invention relates broadly to gasoline pump bowls, and the primary object of this invention is to provide a price chart to be used in conjunction with the graduated scales usually formed on the bowls for indicating the total cost of they number of gallons or fractions of a gallon of gasoline vended, the chart being predicated upon t-he known price of the gasoline per gallon.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a price chart of the character mentioned which may be readily and easily applied to the pump bowls without altering the construction ofthe bowl.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a conventional type of gasoline .pump bowl showing one form of my chart used inconjunction therewith.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical fragmentary detail sectional View taken through the bowl for more clearly illustrating the manner of securing the cha-rt thereto.
Fig. 3 is afragme-ntary plan view of a modified price chart.
"W ith reference more in detail to the drawing, it will be seen that I have designated a conventional type of gasoline bowl for gasoline vending pumps, such as used in service stations bythe referencel character B. The" bowl is of conventional construction, and a detail construction thereof is thought unnecessary.
As is conventional with these types of gasoline bowls, the same is provided on the peripheral wall thereof with a suitable scale S for indicating the number of gallons ofA gasoline being vended from the bowl.
Of course, it is to be understood that the peripheral wall of the bowls is formed from transparent material such as glass, or the like as is conventional.
One form of chart embodying the features `of the present invention is designated generally by the reference character C. The chart is formed from any suitable material such as 1930. Serial No. 443,766.
the bottom of the chart the graduations 6 increasin(r by one, and the graduations 7 increasing by two.
This form of chart is especially adapted for use when gasoline does not exceed in price twenty cents per gallon, and in this instance when the price of the gasoline is such as to be` divisible by two, the price of any fraction-of 'a gallon may be readily ascertained from the price scale including the graduations 7 ,Vas for example, if gasoline be eighteen cents per gallon, it will be readily apparent that the price of two gallons is thirty-six cents, and in this instance, it will be noted that the numeral 36 of the graduations 7 is directly opposite the numeral 2 of the scale S on the bowl.
At the opposite longitudinal edges of the chart is provided the scales 6 and 7 respectively. The scales 6 and 7 are graduated in fractions for indicating the fractions of gallons of gasoline, and the scale 7 may be read against the graduations 7 and the scale 6 read against the graduations 6, so that for example, if gasoline be eighteen cents per' gallon and a gallon and a half of gasoline is purchased, by readily viewing scale 7 and 7 it will be seen that the total cost of the purchase istwenty-seven cents.
The manner of use of the scale is thought obvious, and a further description thereof is believed to be unnecessary. I
For retaining the chart in position on the bowl, I provide upper and lower retaining bands 8 and 9, which bands may be of any suitable material, that are disposed circumjacent the peripheral walls of the bowl at the top and bottom thereof to extend transversely of the chart B and at the top and bottom of the chart, for securing the same in osition as is readily apparent.
n that form of chart shown fragmentarily and in plan in Fig. 3, it will be seen that the chart is formed from a single elongated strip of metal or any other suitable material and the chart therein is designated generally by the reference character C.
On one edge, the chart C is provided with a scale or graduation 6a, the graduations increasing by one from the top to the bottom of the scale, while adjacent its opposite longitudinal edge, there is provided on the chart C a scale or graduation 6b for indicating the fractions of a gallon and adapted to be read against the graduations 6a.
The chart C is secured to the bowl B through the medium of the rings 8 and 9, to one side of the scale S on the bowl to be read against said scale S, and this form of chart can be only used where vthe price of gas is less than twenty cents per gallon, while the first form of chart may be used when gas sells higher or lower than twenty cents per gallon, as is apparent.
Y It is thought that from the foregoing dec scription, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, a clear understanding of the operation and construction and advantages of a price chart of this character, will be had by those skilled in the art without a more detailed description.
' Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood/that the same is susceptible of changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described, and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is In combination with a gasoline pump having a visible dispensing cylinder upon which indicia are placed indicating a number of gallons of liquid in the dispensing cylinder, a price gage placed in contact with the cylinder and comprising an elongated strip provided with a longitudinal sight slot, through which the indicia are visible, said strip on each side of said sight slot and adjacent to -t-he side walls thereof provided with scales including a series ot indications representing cents, the strip being provided adjacent to its side edges with a second series of indi cations representing fractions of a gallon, and annular clamping bands placed about the cylinders and the opposite ends of the` strips for holding the same in place on the cylinder'.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature.
JOSEPH MoRAsKY.
