This invention relates to cylinder printing presses and more especially to a delivery-device for such printing presses.
In cylinder printing presses the carrying out of the printed sheets is eiected in such a way that the sheet is delivered either above the inking mechanism or behind the inking mechanism in its running direction. If the printed sheets are delivered above the inking mechanism or if the latter is arranged on the other side but still above the frame of t-he machine, the height of the delivery pile is very small, which .is often very disadvantageous in the case of an automatically If, however, the printed sheets are delivered behind the inking mechanism, then although a high delivery pile is possible, the machine is at the same time exceedingly long, and the accessibility of the inking trough 1s seriously impaired.
It is the object of my invention to obviate these disadvantages. The invention consists essentially in the fact that the printed sheet delivered by the impression cylinder passes on to a conveying device moving transversely to the previous direction of movement of the sheet, and is carried out of the printing press by means of this conveying device. As a conveying device there may advantageously be employed a band-conveyer travelling out sideways to left or right. TheI movement of the conveying device is prefer- -ably eii'ected in such a way that there are always several sheets collected for lateral removal, so that for instance after every five impressions the sheets are conveyed to the delivery pile. By this method of delivering the sheets it is possible, in given jobs to work off the feeding pile without interruption. Furthermore piling boards may be in serted during the working vof the machine, so that the delivery pile is subdivided/into small piles.
The invention is illustrated in one constructional-form by Way of example as applied to a cylinder printing press with oppositely moving impression cylinder and forme-bed in the accompanying drawings, in which Working machine. l

From the feeding pile a, a sheet b is taken and delivered over a feeding table o in usual manner ri ht against the laying-on marks d. Here the s eet is brought into the correct position by means of known side-registering marks. Meanwhile the impression cylinder` e, journalled on the axle e2 in a carriage e3,
has moved relatively to the feeding table c. The cylinder grippers f noW seize the sheet. During the next revolution and motion of the cylinder e that now ensues, the impression is produced. Hereby, the impression cylinder e moves, together with the roller lnkmg mechanism g arranged in the carriage e3, right into the position el indicated by dotted lines in Figure l, in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the forme bed L. In this position the front edge o f the printed sheet is seized by delivery grlppers i, which are reciprocated in a known manner by revolving chains lo arranged on both sides of the machine frame. The sheet b now comes iirst on to the band groupl of a so-called rBabcock slide bracket Z1 for delivery. This slide bracketl Z1 is moved transversely to the previous direction of movement of the sheet, the movement being such that vfor instance five printed sheets are always accumulated. The delivery of the sheets is thereb effected exceedingly smoothly even at tlie maximum speed of printing, for there remains for the return Journey of the lateral conveyer Z1, during which the sheets gradually lose their supports andslide on to the delivery pile m, the time of about four printing strokes. The ink troughn and therollers o of the revolving pregrinding inking mechanism are fully accessible and can beconveniently operated. By the lateral delivery of the sheets according to the invention the press 'is only widened to a slight extent, since the d rive p of the printing machine projects sldeways ltself.

In combination with printing mechanism, and means to facilitate the feeding of sheets thereto, means to grip the sheets anddeliver the same from the printing mechanism and move the printed sheets in the direction of their movement While being fed to and printed by the printing mechanism and a conveyor arranged below said sheet gripping and delivery means to receive the printed sheets directly therefrom, said conveyor being arranged and movable in. a direction transverse to the path of movement of the printing and gripping and delivery means. so that said con- 1 veyor delivers the printed sheets at one side of the press, in Which the conveyor operates intermittently to accumulate a plurality of printed sheets thereon before moving said printed sheets for delivery at one side of l the press.
