Description

April 21, 1931. A, JANDQC 1,802,080
WATERPROOF WATCHCASE Filed March 22, 1929 Inventor 1 y A tor/1 1 v Patented Apr. 21, 1931 PATENT OFFICE ANTONIO JANDOC, OF GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS WATERPROOF WATCHCABE Application filed larch 88, 1888. Serial No. 849,882.
The present invention relates to improvements in watch cases and has for its principal object to rovide a watch case which will be capable o preventing efiectually the entrance ii of water from between the parts of the case even though they might be completely submerged in water.
One of the important objects of the resent invention isto'provide-a water proo watch case thatalso includes a means for enclosing V the knurled knob of the stem so that said stem cannot he accidentally turned.
Still a further object is to provide a water proof watch case that is more particularly adapted to be worn on the wrist, the parts of the watch case being so constructedas to permit the same to be readily and easily assembled or disassembled.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawings wherein like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views of thesame:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the water proof wrist watch case embodying my invention, the ca for the knurled knob of the winding stem ing removed.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 with the cap positioned over the knob, and Fi 'llG 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodi: ment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the usual central ring portion of the watch case, the usual back being denoted by the reference character 2, while the bezel is illustrated at 3.
The crystal that is supported in the bezel 3 is shown at 4, and a acking ring 5 encircles the peri heral 0 go of the crystal which is bevele and fits snugly within-the channel provided for the edge of the crystal within the bezel as shown at 6 with referenc more particularly to Fi re 3. i
The bezel and the bee of the watch case are secured together on opposite tides of the central ring 1 by suitable headed screws 7 in the manner as also shown inFigureB and gaskets 8 and 9 are interposed between the adjacent faces of the bezel and the central ring and the back and the ring respectively. The screws 7 are countersunk in the back 2 and extend through the ring-like member 1 and are threaded into the bosses3' formed integrally on the inner side of the bezel 3 for engagement in the recesses 1' provided there- 50 for in the adjacent side of' the member 1. The bosses 3 project through the gasket 8. An externally threaded neck 10 is formed on the upper edge portion of the central ring 1 and extending through this threaded neck is the winding stem 11, the same being formed at its upper end with the knurled knob 12 for manually turning the stem to set the watch in the usual manner.
A protective cap 13 is provided for the knurled knob 12, and this cap is threaded on the threaded portion of the neck in the man ner as shown in Figure 2 so that the knurled knob will be completely enclosed, thereby preventing accidental setting of the watch.
A washer or gasket 13 may also be interposed between the cap and the neck to prevent the entrance of water or the like.
A chain 14 is attached at one end to a knob or projection 15 formed on the top of so the cap 13 while the other end is attached to a ring 16 that encircles the neck 10 in the manner as shown in Figure 1.; This is for the purpose of preventing the displacement of the cap when the same is disengaged from the threaded neck 10 whenever it is necessary I to actuate the stem 11 to set the watch.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing description that I have provided a water proof watch case that will prevent the entrance of water or other fluids to the works within the watch caseand also the cap will protect the winding or setting stem from being accidentally actuated.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that minor changes in size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2-- A watch case comprising a central ringlike member having a plurality of recesses V in one side, a bezel mounted on said one side 'of the central member, a gasket interposed between the bezel and central member, internally threaded tubulanbossesformed integral with the bezel and projecting through the gasket into the recesses, a back mounted on the other side of the central member a gasket interposed between the back and central member, and headed screws extendin transversel through the back, the secon named ga et and the central member and threaded into the bosses for clamping the back, central member and the bezel together, said screws being countersunk in the back.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANTONIO JANDOC.
