Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIoa;
JAMES E. EASTLAOK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN ASH-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,120., dated J uly '25, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.
ot' the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Ash-Sifter, which is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The invention consists in a cylindrical Wire sitter, which turns in hearings in the sides or ends of an inclosed ash-box. A hinged lid, forming part of the surface ot'the'cylinder, enables it to be charged with ashes, which, after riddling, are removed through a loose head. A slide-opening permits the riddlings to be taken from the box.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation. Fig. 2 is an end View. Fig. 3 is a view of the siftingcylinder, the hinged lid and loose head being open. Fig. 4. is an end view of Fig. 3.
' A is an ash sifting cylinder, which is suspended in the closed box B by its journals taking through its ends or sides. The surface of the cylinder is composed of the sieve O, the hinged filling-door D, and the heads E F, one of which, F, is constructed for opening.
When the sitter is to be used, the lid G of the box B is raised, the door D thrown open, and the ashes to be cleaned filled in, after which the door D and the lid G are closed, and the cylinder turned by its handle H until the ashes are separated from the combustible matter, and deposited in the bottom of the box. The cylinder is then removed from the box, the head F'opened, and the contents displaced. The ashes are taken from the box through the door I.
I claim as my invention- In an ash-sifting cylinder, A, the combination of the sieve O, filling-door D, and hinged head F, as shown and described.
2. The ash-sifting cylinder A, composed of the sieve O, filling-door D, and the fast and hinged heads E F, in combination with an ash ,box or holder, B, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto sign my name.
JAMES E. EASTLAGK.
