The core. 25is slidablelongitudinally in the bore of-the. tubular plunger, so that it may be telescoped therein as indicated by Figure 11, to conform to any decrease in the length charge in contact withthe pressing face of the plunger.
I provide frictional retaining means adapted to releasably maintain the core in any position to which it is slidable in the plunger and permit the removal of the core from the plunger after a charge has been exhausted, so that'the" core may berecharged I embody the preferred frictional retaining means-in a cylindrical plug or slide 29, located loosely in the plunger core between the abutment 22' and an internal stop shoulder 30on-the plunger, and a stud 31xprojecting from the slide and adapted to enter and frictiona lly engage the upper end portion of the core, said end portion being" split bya slot or slots 82,- so that it is adapted to hug the stud.- When the plunger is fully retracted the "slide '29' is rigidly-backed by the abutment-22, as shown by] FigureQ, so that the split end of the core 1 maybe forced upon the stud and frictionally engaged therewith, the slide and stud being supported by the. stop shoulder'30; sothat the co're may be removed from theplunger by i pulling it downward from=the stud. The-alternative frictional 'retaining means shown by Figures1 2- and 1 -3 is provided by a split ring 33 confined" in the plunger bore between stop'shou-lders 34" andadapted to yieldingly embra'cethe core 25, the core being slidable in and removable' fromthe ring 33.
