To provide a structural formatlon and association of parts in a glare dimmer or llke attachment for spectacles, embodying the features of lightness, durability and cheapness in manufacture combined with a ready, convenient and firmv mounting of the attachment in proper relationy on the lens 0r lens frame'of the spectacles and in a readily detachable manner, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of the preferred forni of the invention, with the spectacles to which it is applied shown in dotted lines.

Fig. 2 is a top view with the carrying spectacles shown in dotted lines.

As shown in the drawing, the dimmer member of the attachment is formed from a comparatively thin sheet of material, such as Celluloid, and comprises a pair of counterpart portions 1 and 2, of any usual form arranged in spaced relation to each other to provide the required nose gap 4. In the preferred construction shown in Fig. 1 the two portions 1, 2, are integrally connected together by a central connecting portion 3; it 1s however within the scope of the invention to dispense with this connecting portion and form the portions 1, 2, as separate units.

In either case each portion 1 and 2 will be formed'with a straight marginal edge fory substantial attachment in an associated holder or base member 5 of a detail Aconstruction now to be described.

Midway the transverse extent of the holder 5 the same is provided with a pivot sleeve 6 preferably formed by a circular bend in the sheet metal` of the holder. Said pivot sleeve .is adapted to afford pivotal connection between the holder 5 and a resilient attaching member 7, by means of which detachable connection of the attachment to a pair of spectacles, is had in a ready and substantial manner.

In the present improvement the resilient attaching member 7 above referred to, isformed of a length of round spring wire bent into an open and approximately oval form,

, the middle portion of which has pivotal engagement in the pivot sleeve`6 of the holder 5 aforesaid, and held from independent longitudinal shift therein by fixed collars 8 having abutment against the respective ends of said pivot sleeve, while the respective curved or hook shaped end portions 9 and 10 of the attaching member are adapted to engage the outer margins of the lens or the lens frames of the pair of spectacles to which this attachment is applied.

To the above end each hook yshaped side portion 9 and 10 of said resilient attaching means is provided with a plurality of clip members 9', 10 inspaced relation and of an angular formation adapted to lprovide holding recesses to receive and engage the outer portions of the spectacles lens at points above and below the pivotal attachment of the, usual temple rods or bows of the spectacles to'attain a substantial yet readily detachable connection of the parts. 9g

In a spectacle attachment of the type herein described, the combination of a dim- 5 mer member of' sheet material, a sheet metal holder' for said member folded along its length into a attened return bend provided at its mid-length with an integrally 'formed pivot sleeve, and an attaching member fformed of resilient -Wire pivotally mounted at its middle in the aforesaid pivot sleeve, said attaching means being of an open and approximately oval shape providing hook shaped outer portions with each of said porr tions rcarrying clips in spaced relation and adapted for engagement with the lens or lens frame of a pair of spectacles in straddle relation to the attaching lugs thereof for the vtemple bows. 2. `In a spectacle attachment as specified in fclaim 12 and wherein the attaching member is provlded with stop collars for abutment against the respective ends of the pivot sleeve 'to hold the parts from individual shift.
