Description

'H. P. TEVONIAN Feb. 7, 1933.
DRAFT I NG BOARD Filed July 14, 1931 LCZIV INVENTOR Patented Feb. 7, 1933 UNITED STATES HAGOP P. TEVONIAN, OF
. d mnjmw YORK immune, 30am Application filed July 14,
This invention relates to drafting boards.
In working on large drawing sheets it has heretofore been necessary for draftsmen to lean far forward and even to lie on the draft- 5 ing board in order to work on the drawing sheet at points comparatively far removed from the front edge thereof. It is therefore an object of this invention to eliminate the difliculties just mentioned and to provide means whereby the drawing sheet may be moved so that it may be brought close to the draftsman.
Other objects of the invention will be appreciated by those skilled in the art upon reading the following specification.
The invention will be fully and comprehensively understood from a consideration of the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of the application, with the understanding, however, that the improvement is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therefrom as do not afiect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the improved drawing board embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and r Fig. 4 is an end view, partly broken away,
of the drawing board shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the numeral 5 indicates a drawing board, it being understood however that the term board, as used in the description and claims of this application, is not confined to the meaning that it is made of wood, but includes any other suit- 0 able material, which may be employed in itioned web.

aking the device of *my invention! drafting board 5 comprises atop 6, depending-front and' rear members 7 and ;8,-respectively, and depending side members 9'andv 10. Apertures 11 and 12 arecut inthe topf6 of the board to allow for the passage therethrou'gh'of. a continuous or endless web 1 5, which is adapted to be moved toward" or away from thedraftsman, being movably mounted.
for-that purpose and being shown hereinas being mounted on a front roller 17 and'a rear roller 18 adapted. to move the mentioned web, the webbeing madeof any suitable material, :such for example as paper, and comprising 1 fan. upper flight 15a and a lower flight 151),
the former flight resting on the top 6a of the board, and adapted to have secured to its upper-surface, as by means of adhesive strips 20,;aIdrawing sheet 21 movable with the men- A Saidv rollers are rotatably mounted the sides 9 andlO of the board,
the front'roller 17 being'provided at its ends with knobs 22 so that the front roller maybe turned, it being understood that the turning of the front roller is effective to turn the mentioned web. The knobs 22 have apertures 23 eccentrically disposed and adapted to receive an instrument by which the knobs may be turned. v Means are provided for adjustably tensioning the webv 15, said tensioning means comprising rods 25 passinglengthwise through the sides 9 and 10 of the board. The mentioned rods are rotatable and extend to the front edge of the board, being provided with kerfs 26 at their front ends so that they may be turned by means of any suitable instrument. Said rods threadedly engage nuts 27 fixedly mounted in the board so that as the rods are turned they may be advanced, thereby advancing or moving farther away from the front roller, the rear roller 18 which is movably mounted, the mentioned rods being adapted to move the rear roller by means presently to be described. The far endportions of the mentioned rods are provided with discs 28 fixedly mounted thereon, beyond which discs extend projections 2.9 adapted to hold end. portions of helical springs 30, the corresponding ends of the mentioned springs abutting against the discs 28. The other ends of the springs 30 abut against discs 31, which are in contact with the shaft 18a of the rear roller 18, said shaft 18a being mounted in the sides 9 and 10 of the board.
Whatis claimed as new is 1. A drafting 'board comprising, rollers, a
movable endless web mounted on the rollers, one of said rollers being movable to and away from the other roller, and meansfor holding the movable roller in a desired'position, said 7 means comprising nuts fixedly mounted'and rotatable rods threadedly engaging the nuts,
and springs between the ends of the rods and Adapted to exert force against the movable rollelz. 7 a I i 2.fA drafting board having depending front and rear members and side members bounding the same,ro1lers rotatably mounted in the front and rear members below the top 0f the board, an endless web trained over said rollers, and extending to the top of the iboardithrough slots adjacent its front and 7 rear edges, the journals of the rear roller being; mounted in. horizontally elongated slots, springs housed in recesses in the rear member and. adjacent ends of the side members and bearing on said journals, and rods disposed'in slots in said side members and extending to and exposed at the forward ends of said side members, and nuts seated in the latter with which said rods are thread -inglyeng'aged, the rear ends. of said rods being provided with abutments against which the forward ends-of said springs bear.
1 ,InJt-estimo'nv whereof I hereby 'aflix'my signature.
