The invention has for an object the construction of a safety razor whichis characterized by identification adapted to avoid till;3d excess use of one and the 'same edge of a e. v Asa further object it is proposed to arrange the identification so that it may be remembered easily which edge has been used the last and the most.

Furthermore, it is proposed to arrange the identification so as to know exactly from which edge to expect satisfactory service and a good shave.

Another one of the objects ofithis invention is the arrangement of a blade guard for location beneath the blade of the safety razor and having a projection engaging into a larger size aperture in a blade holding plate so thatsaid aperture has the simultaneous function of also exposing an identiication mark on the blade of the razor and holding said projection.4

Furthermore as-another object it is proposed to arrange the top of the projection at an inclination to reduce its obstruction of the identification mark.

Furthermore, as another object of this invention it is proposed to provide the blade holding plate with openingsV adapted to expose markings upon the blade to identify the various edges.

This invention still further proposes the construction of an article as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured andsold at a reasonablecost. For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the'appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more. particularlyset forth. v

The safety razor according to this inven- 'I tion comprises a blade holding plate 10 for location above a safety razor blade 11 and having cutouts 12 for the double function of exposing a portion 13 of the blade 11 and for 70.

receiving a projection 14 from a blade guard 15 for location beneath. the blade 11. The blade holding plate 10, the blade 11 and the blade guard 15 are held together in conventional fashion and attached upon the handle 16 to conclude the formation of the razor. The blade guard 15 is formed with a plurality of teeth 17 along its edges as is customary.

The projections 14 engage against the sides of the openingsv 12 so as to firmly hold the 8 relation of the blade and the blade .holding plate and the blade guard. The projections 14 are soarranged that at one end they are spacedv from lthe end of the openings and thus provided for the space through which the identification on the blade may be viewed. Preferably, though not as a limitation, the identification should be numerals or letters denoting the 'different edges of the blade.

Moreover they should be placed on both sides` 9 of the blade to identify the sides in addition tothe edges. As shown in Fig. 2 the openings 12 are arranged on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line in a manner so that the blade may be engaged in place as shown in the drawing or with the cutting edge now at the top, placed at the bottom. In Figs. 4 and 5, .a modification of the invention has been disclosed in which a razor is shown to include a blade holding plate 22 of the blade holding plate, in distinction with the openings of the previous form which are clt in from the edges of the blade holding p ate. f

Inl Figs. 6 'and 7 another modification of the invention has been disclosed in which the blade guard 15 is formed with projections 14 similar to and for the same purpose as the projections 14 in the first described form, excepting the projections 14 are formed with hollowed out tops 25. Record cards 26 are attached over the tops of the projections 14 and held by screws 27. These record cards are printed with a plurality of boxes 28 adapted to be unched by a pin indicated by the dot and aslrlines 29 to keep a record of the shaves taken on each edge. The material of therecord card 26 should be thin celluloid, cardboard, or the like so as to be easily punchable. In other respects the invention is identical to. the irstl described for and corres ponding parts may be recogmzed by corresponding reference numerals. One screw 27 is sulicient to hold each of the record cards 26, in that the edges of the record cards engaged against the sides of the openings 12. c razors constructed according totliis invention may be used in conventional fashion excepting that records or the memory may be used to avoid excess use of one and the same edge of lthe blade to identify which edge has been used last and most and to know exactly which edge to expect satisfactory service and a good shave. While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularly, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve th right and privilege of changing the form 0% the details of construction or otherwise alter-1 ing the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
