AUTOMATIC DIE CASTING APPARATUS Filed Aug. 31, 1931 F Z a ConZ'raZ maclz'm 2 K T i :3

A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE AUTOMATIC DIE-CASTING APPARATUS Application filed August 31, 1931, Serial No.
This invention relates to improvements in and relating to automatic die-casting apparatus and more particularly to adevice for preventin the injection pressure in such apparatus rom continuing in the pressure chamber during breakdowns.
In the case of automatic die-casting machines, especially. such as are hydraulically controlled, in which the majority of the working 0 erations are performed. or initiated, m efinite succession and at definite intervals-for example by means of one or more camshafts, suchas disclosed in United States Letters Patent 1,7 24,332 to Will et 21., issued Aug. 13, 1929,it has been found necessar to adopt measures which, in the event 0 any sudden stoppage of the machineespecially failure of the energy required for (actuating the control devices-at a time when the injection pressure is acting upon the metal in the pressure chamber, will prevent the'protracted continuance of said pressure in the chamber, since, under such conditions, the walls of the chamber would be subjected to undue stress.
in the working position by the forces actuating the 11130111116 or the control mechanism,
7 but is adapted, in the event of failure of the actuating forces, to move into a position establishing free communication between the pressure chamber and the atmosphere, and
. at the same time shutting off the injectionpressure pipe.
In order to more clearly understand the invention, reference is made to the accompanyin drawing, which illustrates diagrammatica y and by way of example, one embodiment thereof.
In said drawing, a slide valve 1; movin in a casing a is retained in a position w 1e 560,430, and in Germany September 15, 1980.
atmosphere, by way of the passage 6, so that the pressure in the chamber is promptly relieved, and, on the other hand, the in ection pressure pipe is shut off.
I claim:
1. A safety device in pressure die-casting machines comprising a valve in the pressure supply pipe leading to the pressure chamber, means for retaining said valve in working poition, actuated by the forces operating the machine, and means for automatically shifting said valve into a position adapted to bring about free communication between the interior of the pressure chamber and the atmosphere, when such operating forces cease to act.-
2. A safety device in pressure die-casting machines comprising a valve in the pressure supply pipe leading to the pressure chamber, means for retaining said valve in working position actuated by the forces operating the machine, and means for automatically shiftiriiig said valve into a position adapted to shut o the pressure supply and to bring about free communication between the interior of the pressure chamber and the atmosphere, when such operating forces cease to act.
3. A safety device in pressure die-casting machines comprising a valve casing inserte in the pressure supply ipe leading to the pressure chamber, a sli e movably tted in said casing, a bore insaid slide adapted to tween the pressure chamber and the atmos phere when said slide is in the opposite extreme position, an electromagnet core operating said slide and actuated by the current operating the pressure die-casting machine,
and means for limiting the movement of said slide in the direction away from said electromagnet core.
4. A safety device in pressure die-casting machines comprising a valve in the ressure supply ipe leading to the pressure 0 amber, means or retaining said valve in working position whereby pressure is admitttd to the pressure chamber, said valve retaining means being actuated by the forces operating the machine, and means for automatically shifting said valve into position to shut ofl the pressure to the interior of said pressure'chamher when the machineoperating forces cease to act.
In'testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
KARL FRIEDRICH WAGNER.
