GORSELET Filed July 21. 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet '2 Patented Nov. 29, 1932 UNITED STATES EMOGENE mm, or SANTA. oRuz, ontmozanm V consnrnir Application filed. July 21, 1931. Serial No. 552,245. i
This invention relates to corselets. Garments of this character have been found objectionable because the lower edges thereof have produced very noticeable corset lines across the back and sides which have marred the appearance of the gowns worn thereover. This has been particularly true of garments worn by stout persons.
Another objection present in the usual corselet has been the location of hose supporters at points where it has been necessary to sit on the buttons, buckles, elastic straps, eto.,
forming parts thereof and where they exert excessive strains upon the hose tops and tend to tear them.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a corselet with a continuous elastic skirt which forms a downward extension of the garment and fits snugly but yieldingly to the body so that the objectionable corset line is eliminated and the gowns worn thereover will lie smoothly.
Another object is to locate the hose supporters where they will not cause discomfort to the wearer but will hold the hose properly and adjust themselves automatically to the movements of the user without pulling excessively on the hose and tearing them.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a front perspective View of the corselet.
Figure 2 is a rear perspective view thereof.
Figure 3 is a View showing the inside of the corselet, said garment being spread open.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates the usual front panel of a corselet which can be provided with the usual gusset 2 of elastic. A back panel A is stitched to one side ofthe front panel 1 and is stiffened by stays located at desired points asindicated at 5. The back panel can be of any desired shape and has a side gusset f elastic.
The front panel 1 has the elastic gussetb along its attached side and extending from theother side of the back panel 4 is a narrow flap 11 also provided with an elastic gus 5 set 12. This flap has its upper portion 13 formed of a material corresponding to the brassiere 8. The fasteners 9 are adapted to detachably connect one side of the front panel 1 to flap l1 and'the.corresponding side of the brassiere to the portion 13.
Arranged inside of the garment is a broad front panel 14 of a soft fabric. This is secured along one side to the gusset 6. A flap H 15 of similar material is secured to the gusset 12 and both panel 14 and flap 15 have fasteners 16 whereby they can be secured together. This panel and its flap form an abdominal supporter back of the smooth front panel 1 and both terminate below the brassiere.
For the purpose of obliterating the objectionable corset line usually formed by the lower edge of the back panel, the present garment is formed with a skirt 17 of elastic webbing which is fastened smoothly to the outer surface of panel 4; above the lower edge thereof and extends downwardly a suitable distance to fit snugly upon the wearer. This skirt has one end extended'partly across and secured to one side of the front panel 1 while the other end forms a flap 18 adapted to lap the front panel and to be detachably secured thereto by fasteners 19.
An adjustable elastic strap 20 is secured at one end to the free lower corner of the panel 1 and at its other end to the free lower corner of'panel 14. Another elastic strap 21 is attached at one end to the other lower corner of front panel 1 while its other end is secured to the adjacent portion of panel 14. 10b
Other elastic straps 22 and 23 are secured to the sides of the back panel 4 at the lower end thereof. All of these straps support slidable loops 24 carrying fasteners 25 for engaging 5 the tops of the hose. Because of their locations the'stra 22 and 23 will be supported at the sides 0 the wearer while straps 20 and 21 will be in front. Thus these straps will not retard the movements of the wearer nor will they pull excessively on the engaged hose. On the contrary, the" loops 24; will slide freely on the straps to adapt the supporters to changing positions.
What is claimed is: a I
A corselet including front andback panels adapted to extend across'the back, front and oneside of the wearer, means for joining them detachably at the other side, and an elastic apron overlying the lower portions of said panels and sewn thereto, said apron hanging well below the panels and extending without break from one side of the front panelalong both sides and the back of the corselet, one end of the apron being sewn to the side por- 25 tion of the front anel and the other end thereof being left ree to provide a flap for lapping the other side portion of the front panel, and means for detachably securing said flap to the side portion of the front panel,
and two ends of the apron being spaced apart at the front of the garment and said apron adually decreasing in size from the center of its back to its front ends 7 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed'my si nature.
