Patented Nov. 22, 1 932 UNITE-DY STATES Josrzrn a. irnonn'roiv, or SPOKANE; WASHINGTON comarna'rroiv Book immora Ann ADVERTISING 3 mm,
Application filed man 28 1931. .s ri llnqfsaastrfi f My invention relates to combination book hange'rsand advertising holders and certain objects of the invention are to provide a bookhang'er made of'a single piece of wire that is bent to form a pair f f parallel arms for retaining the book inai neat closedlposr' tion, anoifset portion 'onwhich a book-is suspended through ahole in thebook, a finger stop portion disposed below the offset portion and adapted to prevent the book from swinging around, loop portions for hanging the device on a hook or nail and for pivotally swinging same to a position whereby the book may be opened, and a rectangular member connected to one of the parallel arms which serves as an additional means for keeping the book closed and which is adapted for use in holding'advertising cards.
\Vith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description pro:
ceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, adaptation, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawing; wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the general application and installment of n the device; Fig. 2 is a view in vertical sectiontaken substantially on a broken line 2, 2 of Fig. 1';
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in perspective of the complete device; Fig. 1 is a detail View in transverse vertical section taken on a broken line 4, 4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section takenon a broken line 5, 5 of Fig. 3. Referring to the drawing 'throughowt which like reference numerals indicate like parts, the numeral 5 designates a straight' spring wire arm that is substantially of a length corresponding with the width of a I book 6 that is to be suspended by the device,
5 finger that has a right angle bend at 9 thus providing a dr'op portion 10' and a horizontal deflected ortion 11. g Y From t e right angle? the. wire extends upward to forrn astanding portion 12whose upper end is fashioned into an annularloop 5- 13. 'The wire e tendsJ at right angles from said'loop, as at l gfor aishortsdistance andf is then deflected to form a downward reach; 15 whichreach isfdeflected to form afshort' portion 16. Saidshortportion is of equal 9::
length and parallel with itheportion 14' and extends toiirnpinge the standing portion 12 thus'forming a, rectangular loop designated as a whole'by the numeral 17. reotangular loop and the annular loop 13 are used.
for suspending the device'ona hookor'nailf 3 d h "rectangular loop isyparticularly-used as a finger grasp for moving the entire device to the dotted position shown inFig, 1-
be understood.- 1 From the short portion 16 the wire extends downward, as at 18, along the standing por tion 12 toapoint 1 9 touchingthe right angle when iS'de'sired to ope th bookaisr w ll bend 71 At saidpoint' the wire isbent'at right angles to forni ashortofi'setp'ortion 20 which is of a length slightly greater than the thickness of afbook that isto be suspend ed thereon. From said ofise't the 'wire is; m given another rightangle bendto' form a reacharm 21 that is parallelwith the spring, arm 5 'and'lof substantially the same-length? The reach arm 21flis somewhat flattened.
asfshown in' cross section inFigwt and its outer face isprovided with a plurality of .spaced apart notches 22. An advertising holder 23, that may be made of-sheet metalf celluloid-or, the like, is provided at its upper: edge witha loop fold 24 .which conforms in cross section with the reach arm and isadapted to receive same. Said loop fold pro--- vided with a plurality of-indent-ures 25 disposed in correspondin gspa'ced relation with q the notches in the reach arm and adapted to fit into said notches when said holder ism- 1 stalled {on said arm for the purpose "ofre taining same thereon. The lower edge er. tion of said loop foldis'turnedu 7 toforrn'; 1 alip'26 and the lower edge'of-the a vertising holder is'likewise turned provide a lipi'1 0 'tl e spring'arm 5 Willbegparalleltsziththe I 27, and one or more advertising cards 28 may be slidably installed in said holder with said lips retaining their upper and lower 7 edges as Will be'understood. v
To assemble and install the device the advertising holder 23 is removed from the reach a arm 21 and saidarrn is passed all theway 1 through a hole 29in onecornerjof'the book 7 6 and the offset portion 20- is moved intosaid r hole; In this positionsaid reach arm and covers of thebook'on oppositesides thereof and Will normally serve" to retain the book in aneat closed position thus preventing same 15 from 'fiaring' open' as is ordinarily the case i whenno retaining nieans'is provided. The
- advertising'holder' is then installed'on the reacharm and due to the idth and length f 'of-saidladvertising holder same; serves as an additional means forkeeping thebook' closed.
- lfheqdevice'isthen suspended o'ne ar h'ookor nail by means' 'oflthe loop 13 and in thesusi position "the horiz 'ontal finger por tionjll serves as a stop or shoulder to pre-' vent the bookfromfswinging around orback Vandffforth "To open the-book it is merely necessary to pivotal-1y svvingtheentire'hanger V the tingeragainsttheloop 1 7.
