Description
Nov. 8, 1932. c, DoMM CONTAINER` FOR USE' WITH REFRIGERATORS AND DISPLAY COUTERS Filed Nov. 15. 195o CHARLES A'0o/w `Patented -Nov. 8, 1932 UNITED A STATES PATENT ,OFFICE ummm nom-M, or nE'raorr. MICHIGAN, AssIcNoR or ONE-FOURTH To LOUIS J.
GILCHRIST, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN CONTAINER FOR USE WITH REFRIGRATORS AND DISPLAY CO'UNTERS Application filed November 15, 1930. Serial No. 495,979.
This invention relates to containers for use with refrigerators, meat display counters and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide a chamber forming member for receiving articles to be placed in the refrigerator or meat display compartment to save moisture and minimize the drying of the articles, as they do when placed' in electric refrigerators.
Another object of the invention is .to provide means whereby air can be caused to circulate through the container from the interior part of the -refrigerator or display compartment and also to make the container l5 transparent in part-so that articlesvplaced,
thereincan be seen, especially when the invention is used with the display compartments of meat counters and the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like.
or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view through the display compartment of a counter` showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a View of the coverI of the device.
Figure 3 is a similar view, but showing the dampers in closed position.
Figure 4 is a section on line i-#tof Figure 1.
In this drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the display compartment of a counter for displaying meat or other articles while the articles are subjected to chilled air which is circulated through the compartmentin the known manner. Itis well known that meat andsome other articles placed in such compartments will soon deteriorate, due to the moisture therein being removed by the circulating air, and in order topreventthis drying action, I provide a casing A to receive 53 the articles. This casing is placed in the f. shown.
display compartment and in' order that the articles therein can be seen, I form the walls of the casing of transparent material, as Thus one looking into lthe display compartment can see the articles in the casing.
The bottom 1a of the casing is preferably made of porcelain and may be made removable. It is spaced from the lower end of the casing so that air can pass from the compartment through the openings 2 into 60 the casing. A screen 3 is held slightly above the bottom 1a by the supports 4 ,and the articles are placed on thisscreen. t
The front top 'part of the casing slopes downwardly as shown, and has a large opening therein for the placing of articles in the i casing and their removal therefrom. A removable lid 5 covers this opening and is provided with a handle '6. This lid has a num-` ber of openings 7 therein which are controlled 70 by the dampers 8 attached to a rod 9 which is slidably connected with the lid by the brackets 10. A handle 11 isformed on the rod so that it can be moved to cause the dampers to close the openings or to uncover 15 or partly uncover the same. Thus the amount of air passing through the casing can be regulated or entirely stopped. t
The top part 12 of the casing can be used to display meat and other articles When desired. Of course, the articles should not be allowed to remain on this top part very long or else they will dry out. y 4
Thepdevice can be also placed in'home refrigerators to prevent articles placed therein from drying out, and it will be understood that as many of the devices can be used as is necessary or desired.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip-V tion that the advantages and nevel' features 90 of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
provided that such changes fall within the 9o scope of the appended claim.
Vhat I claim is A container of the character described 'comprising a casing having a forwardly inclined upper front portion with an opening therein, a lidremovably tted in the open'- p ing and having a row of spaced substantially elongated apertures, guide eyes mounted eX- ternally on the lid in spaced alignment with each other at one side of the apertures, a bar slidably and swinginglyiitted in the eyes and having right angular spaced extensions, and bumpers on the extensions and engageable over and from the apertures on manual manipulation of the bar for the closing and opening of. said apertures.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
CHARLES DOMM.
