A further object of the invention is the provision of a dipper tooth having a body portion which is secured in Hat contact with the inner face of the bottom of a scoop, the body having an extension located at an acute angle tothe bottom of the scoop` and projecting outwardly and downwardly from the free edge of the scoop and a flat face on the extension having a bit secured thereto with the opposite edges of the bit being available for penetrating purposes when the bit is properly adjusted. n This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specilication; nevertheless, it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 generally designates a shovel or scoop adapted to be employed in connection with excavating machines and dredging machines in which dipper teeth are formed integrally with the bottom [face of the scoop or se- Y cured thereto, but` such Yteeth are 'normally placed in a plane which is parallel'to the plane of the bottom of the scoop so that the teeth extendV directly forwardly in a direct line from the bottom of the scoop. In such Vconstructions the dipper teeth do nothavel the proper angle so that when the scoop is thrust toward the ground the teeth will not always engage 1n the soll. v

The heads 17 of the bolts are countersunk within similar openings in the bottom V15 of thefscoop 10.
vThe bolts extend through the base portion14 and are secured in placefbymeans of nuts '18 which restuponthe stepped` ,sections of the outer face-fof the base portion 14. These -bolts may be made square in order to prevent turning of the sameand the passages -16y are similarly constructed.

In order to providel the stepped sections the extension y2Ois cut out to provide a channel 23 and side walls 24. n "The bit'25; is secured in fiat contact to the 90 outer flat face 26 ofthe extension 2O by the `bolts 22. `The passages 27 are counter'sunk at one end and are spaced equal distances apart to receive the bolts 22 and also the heads 18a.` These bolts are square in cross section and the passages 27 are likewise similarly constructed in order to prevent turning of the bolts.
rlhe forward edge of the bit 25 is provided with a bevelled cutting edge 28 which is 00 adapted to penetrate the ground when the scoop or shovel is thrust toward the ground. The opposite end of the bit is square as shown at 29 and is adapted to be ground oif at a proper angle when it is desired to use this end of the bit instead of the edge 28.
It will be notedthat the bit 25 by the present construction is inclined at an angle to the bottom l5 of the scoop 10 so that the cut- 0 ting edge 28 of the bit projects slightly belowV the inner face of the bottom of the'scoop. Due to the angle of inclination of the bit 25 Y j the dipper teeth will always be in a condition Y to penetrate the ground as the scoop is moved toward the ground at the proper angle.

Vhen the cutting edgesY 28 are worn down suiiciently so that they will require replacement, the bits may be turned .around and the ends 29 sharpened to provide V Apenetrating portions. Due to the equal spacing of the passages27 the sharpened ends 29 may be placed in position where the cutting edges 28 are shown in Figure 3.
