1 An objectof myfinvention is to provide an improved drilling mechanism. 1 Another object is to provide improved hole cleanslng means for such a mechanism. Still another *object is to provide improved controlling means for the fluid distribution valve 01' a pressure fluid actuated drilling mechanism to hold the distribution valve in one positlon ,todirect alflow of pressure fluid to only the forward end of the motor so :as to permlt a supply of live pressure fluid to flow to the hollow drillsteelto cleanse the hole. The piston 33 is provided withaj longitudinally rearwardly extending stem 3t adapted to engage the forward end ofithe valve18. A reduced bore 35 is formed in the buffer 15in which a spring 36 is disposednor mally tending to hold the piston 33 inits extreme forward inoperative position against the inner surface of a plug 37 which closesthe forwardend of the bore 32. The rear end of b ,thefbore 32 is vented to the atmosphere by 65 motor from the supply passage 19 through the 3 distribution passages 20 and 21 communicatmeans of a small port 38 (see Fig. As illustrated, the rear bufler plug 1a is provided with a longitudinally extending port 39 which communicates with the bore 12 at the rear end of the valve 18 and with a laterally disposed bore 40 respectively, which is threadedly engaged, as at 41, by a valve casing 42. The valve casing 12 is provided with a longitudinally extending portion 43 in which a longitudinal bore ll is formed and the portion 43 is secured at a5, herein by brazing, to a pipe connection 1-6 communicating with a radially extending port i? which, in turn, communicates with the forward end of the bore 32 formed in the forward buffer plug 15. A cylindrical valve d8 is slidable in the bore 44 and this valve is provided with a stem 19 and an operating member or push button 50 located adjacent the throttle valve 30. A spring 51 is disposed between the valve casing 4 2 and the push button 50 and this spring normally tends to hold the valve 48 in its extreme rearward inoperative position. The valve 48 is provided with a passage 52 which is adapted to connect the bore lO formed in the plug 1% with the forward end of the bore 44 which communicates with the bore 32. The bore a l is provided with a laterally extending vent port 53 which is adapted to connect the forward end of the bore 32 with the atmosphere when the valve -8 is in its inoperative position. It will here in be noted that the stem 34 of the piston 33 is flattened or cut away at 5a to vent the end of the valve, in the usual manner, to the atmosphere through the bores 35 and 32 and the vent passage 38.
In the operation of this form of my improved valve controlling and hole cleansing means it will herein be noted that when it is desired to cleanse the hole the operator manipulates the push button 50, moving the valve 43 to the right, indicated in Fi g. 3, opening communication between the bore 12 at the rear end of the valve 18, which bore communicates with the cylinder bore 3 by means of the throwing passage 24, and with the forward end of the bore by means of the pipe connection 46, thus causing the piston 33 to be moved to the left, the stem 34 en gaging the forward end of the valve at this time, consequently causing the valve 18 to be snifted rearwardly and held in its extreme rearward position against the rear bur'l'er plug 14, see Fig. 3. This causes the pressure fluid to flow from the supply passage 19 past the forward su face of the central spool ofhe valve and through the passage 21 communicating with the forward end of the cylinder bore. The pressure fluid acting on the rear end of the piston l is exhausted to atmosphere through the passage 20 and the passage 22 at this time. This causes the pressure fluid within the forward end of the cylinder bore to hold the piston 4 in its e2:-
treme rearward position and also causes pres= sure fluid to flow from the forward end of the motor by way of the usual drill steel rotation flutes 7 formed in the striking bar 5 through the hollow drill steel to cleanse the hole. When the push button 50 is released the pressure fluid in the forward end of the bore 32 is ventedto atmosphere by way of the vent port 53 communicating with the bore la in the valve casing 42, consequently causing the spring 06 to force the piston and the stem 3d forwardly to its inoperative position, the valve 18 again resuming its normal fluid distributing operation at this time.
As a result of my improvement it will hereinbe noted that improved valve controlling and hole cleansing means is provided wherein the valve may be held in inoperative position and the flow of pressure fluid directed through the forward end of the motor" through the hollow drill steel to cleanse the hole. It will further be noted that improved pressure fluid actuated valve controlling and hole cleansing means is provided which is of an exceedingly simple and compact character and which may be applied to a drilling mechanism standard form with a minimum of change and expense.
l Vhile I have in this application speciflcally described one form which my invention may assume in practice, it will be understood that this form of the same is shown for pur poses of illustration and that the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its T77:

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a fluid actuated rock drill, the combination with a tool actuating motor including a cylinder and a hammer piston reciprocable therein, fluid distribution means for effecting reciprocation of said piston including a valve chest, a fluid actuated fluid distributing valve therein controlling fluid distribution for opposite ends of said cylinder bore and means for conducting pressure fluid from said cylinder to said valve chest to effect throwing of said valve and including a valve H throwing passage leading from one end of said valve chest to said cylinder adjacent its forward end, a hollow tool adapted to be actuated by said piston, and means for establishing communication between the forward end of said cylinder and the bore in said tool when the piston is held in its rearward position, of a hole blowing device comprising pressure fluid operated means relative to which said fluid distributing valve is movable during its normal operation for positively shifting said valve against the resisting throwing pressure and holding said valve in one position to effect a hole blowing operation by continuous supply of pressure fluid to the forward end of said cylinder, and :73
