This invention relates to toys and more particularly to toys made of cardboard or the like in thesimilitude of animals or human beings in which the limbs are pivoted to the 5 body and caused to move by pulling strings or by pulling connections attached to said limbs.
The general object of my ,invention is to provide toys of this character which canbe made of either paper or wood, which can be in the form of c-cut-outs to be afterwards `clipped from thin paper, pasted on cardboard and have the various parts put together to form what I term a fmovie toyr.
A further object is to provide a device of` this character on which elastic bands are used for the purpose ofreturning the parts to panying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a toy conl structed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof; 'Figure 3 is a rear elevation of another form of toy embodied inV my invention;A y
Figure 4 isatop plan view thereof. Referring to these drawings in Figure 2, l have illustrated a doll constructed in accordance with my invention. In this ligure, 1() designates the body of the doll having the usual head 1,1, the upper arms 12, the fore arms 13, the upper leg sections 14 and the lower leg sections 15. The arm sections 13 are connected to the arm sections 12 by means of the pivot 16 and the upper arm sections are connected to the shoulders of the body 10 by like pivots. connected to the upper leg sections by a pivot 16 and the upper leg sections are connected to the body by the same means. c
Above the pivots 16 for the upper arms 12, the upper arms are provided with two apertures 17 preferably connectedby narrow slits 18 to the edge of the arm section, thus permitting the introduction of a rubber band 19 The lower leg sections are between these arm sections. The upper ends ofthfl upper leg sections 14 are also provided with the apertures 17 and slits 18 providing for'the introduction of a rubber band 19 between theseztwo sections :To the headis attached a suspended loop. 20-and to the rub# Y ber bands 191s attached an operating cord 21 whicheXtends down between the llegs to any desiredV length; It will be obvious that when the body is suspended by the cord 2O and the cord 211s pulled, the legs and arms willbe raised and when the tension on the cord 21 is eoVv relaxed, the arms' and legs will return to their f `normal position. 1 l
,In F igure3, l illustratey the iigureiof an animal havingthe same general principle as esV illustrated in Figure 2. For illustration, I
have shown the figure in the form" of* aho-rse, 22 designating thev bodyV ofthe horse, 23 the neck and head, 24 the tail,;25 afiXed fore leg, 26 a movable fore leg,` and 27'two-connect`ed movablehind legs. AThe neck is pivoted to the bodyvat'28. Y The tail is pivotedfto .the body atv 29, the fore leg is pivoted to the body ati30 and the. hind legsare pivoted at 31.' These pivots, as in the former case, may be in the. form offrivets, fasteners, eyelets, or other-like devices.V Y Y It will be noted that .theV rootvportion 24a of the ltail is formed above the pivot 29 with two openings 31a, one of these openingshaving aslit extending into the opening. The neck 23 on each side of the pivot 28 isA formed withV the openings 32 and 3.3,. A rubber band 34 is engaged in the openn gs 31a and 32 and a rubber band 35 which is preferably formed of one strand of rubber and knotted at its ends is engaged with the opening v33 and the lowermost opening of the tail. The joined hind legs 27 at their upper end above the pivot 31 thereof are provided with an opening 36 whilethe upper end 4of the fore leg 26 is' provided with an opening 37.v Slits lead fromthe upper edges of these sections to said openings so as to provide for the ready insertion of a rubber band 38 in these openings.
Threaded through openings .39 and 39a in the body ofthe animal is a rubber band 40,
one end or ,strandl of which extends to an ,ma
opening 41 in the hind leg of the animal while the other strand extends into an opening 41a in the movable fore legv of the animal, the opening 41 and the opening 41abeing dis'- 5 posed below the pivots for the jointed hind legs and for the fore legs. y Attached tothe body ofthe animal is a suspending loop V42 and attached to the rubber bands 34 and 38 is an operating cord 43e.` It will be obvious 0 now that when the body-is suspended by the parts to their original position. Y
cord 42 and the cord 43'is pulledthat the head and neck of the horse will be rocked upon ,v v the pivot 28, the fore leg 26 will be advanced, `V y the hind legs will be thrown rearwardfthey A e 3 tail will be raised and that upon rela-Xing the Vtension upon the cord 43, the rubber bands will retract the parts to their V.original position. In other words, th-e-pullion. the cord 43' pulls the head up and theltail up against 20 thetension of Vthe rubber band 35 while the pull on the cord 43 pulls down on the rubber band 38 and places a tension upon therubber bands 40 and as soon as the pull 'on the cord 43 isrelaXed, the bands tend'to return the It will be seen that I have provided toys which may be cheaply made andwhich may very effectively be made. l These ytoys may be printed on paper and then cut out and put Y together bya child or may be initially lcut out and 'putfztogetherJ by machinery or other means. u Y
I claiI1f'1':--V A toy of the charactervdescribed .in the 1 form of an'animal, the toy'comprising a body, a head and neck pivoted upon the body, a tail pivoted upon the body, a fore leg pivoted upon the body and hindlegs pivoted upon ,A the body and joined to each otheryan elastic e 4W band connecting the' neck on one side Aof the n 50' signature.
pivot thereof to the tail onvone side of they pivot thereof, an elastic bandconnecting the fore leg to the hind leg on one side of the y pivots thereof, a pull cord attached to said 15 rubber bands, elastic bands engaged with' the fore leg and hind legs and with the neck and the tail and acting to retract them to a normal position. Intestimony whereof I 'hereunto affix my Y JOHN VK; RAUGSTAD.
