Description
Oct. 11, 1932. D. s. KLINETOB CLAMP AND HOLDING DEVICE WITH HOOK Filed Sept. 14. 19:51
ATTORNEYS Patented Qct. 11, 1932 DALBYS 'B. xrmnron, or ILTON, PENNSYLVANIA PATENT 1 oFFIcEf cLAMr AND HOLDING nnvronwrrn noon Application filed September 14, 1931. Serial 2K0. 562,770.
' My present invention has reference to a clamp and holding device with hook for connecting the meeting ends ofa'split neck stra for four-in-hand ties, bow ties, other nec wear; garters and similar and diverse uses where'a hook is needed to be clamped to fabrics and similar materials, and for connecting split or severed ends or separate pieces of such fabrics, or wherever a clamp and holding device is needed for such uses.
Afurther purpose is to strike from a single plate, a device that will, on one end, firmly grip therebetween the ends of the 'neck'strap or other fabric and likewise provide jaws or hooks for interengagement with another like device attached to the other end of the neck strap or other piece of fabric, and when intereugaged will provide a means of posihook for this purpose of a single plate 0 metal. 1
' Besidesother uses, said clampand holding device is to be an attachable accessory to a four-in-hand neck tie or any neck band of a similar type, and or wherever a detachable band would be advantageous.
' To the attainmentof the foregoing and other objectswhich will present themselves .as the nature of the invention is better understood the invention consists in theimprovetively connecting the said ends or pieces, and
Figure .5 is a perspective view thereof.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view through the .interengaging fasteners.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of. one of the fasteners prior to the bending of the integral clamping .plate against .the body of the fastener.
Figure 8 is an end View to better illustrate the interengagement of the teeth between the body of the fastener and the clamp plate'of the fastener.
I am. aware that there are anumber 'ofdevices for fastening the meeting ends of split neck bands of four-in-hand or bow ties but in the main such fasteners are adjustably connected to the neck straps, are not easily fastened together and are of a complicatednature.. While the fastener that forms the'subject matter of this application is adaptable to the split neck straps of any class of neckties, the same is primarily designedfor use in connection with four-in-hand ties of the ordinary construction, which after the same is properly knotted has its neck portion 1 cut transversely, and to the ends-of the neck band or strap the fasteners are attached. By this arrangement a perfectly hand knotted tie may be easily and quickly arranged beneath the folds of a collar so that the knottingof the tie, each time it is worn, is thus efiectively overcome.
The fasteners as disclosed by Figure 2 are each struck from a single plate of thin, strong but bendable metal. This plate'2 has one of its edges formed with a projection i3, and at a distance inward from the projection the plate is slitted longitudinally, as at 4, and is likewise slitted for a determined distance, as at 5. The ends of the extension'3are slightly beveled,- and it is to be noted that the slits 5 are disposed approximately in a line with the ends of the said extension 3.
The metal bounded by the slits 4 and 5 is indicated by the numeral 6, and this part 6 is designed to be bent upon a longitudinal fold saw-tooth shaped prongs-8. The :body plate,
wise punched in the same direction from the punched portion 6 and by thus punching the a body plate thesame is afforded with conical projections that are formed with saw-shaped teeth or prongs 9, and the teeth or prongs 9 are so arranged thatthe spaces-therebetween are disposed in-a planefor'idirectly opposite the saw teeth 8 andthe conicalprojections of;
score'line over the body plateQf The body plate, inwardof the endthereof provided with the extension 3 is bent upon a score line againstthe face ofthebody plate opposite that over which the part t has been bent. The'plateisrounded upon itself at its last-named bent portion and the said bent portion provides the plate with a j aw" '11 that is arranged parallel with but is spaced-from the body plate and the extension 3 on the jaw 11 provides the said'j aw with a'lip'. For distinction thespace or opening between the jaw. 11 and the-body plate afforded by the slitted 6 portions 4 and5 is indicated the numeral One of the slit ends of the neck strap "1' of the tie is passed over the; body plate and the overlying part 6 :is forcibly pressed against the body plate. The; conical teats provided with the teeth 8and9 will have-their said teeth brought to impinging engagement with the end of the strap 1. Because the teeth 1 8 areyreceived ingthe spaces provided.- by the teeth -.9 theend'of the "tie will be effectively secured to the fastener. Thesecond end of the tiehas thecoop'erat ing fastener attached thereto in the same manner as just described and the 'ja-ws of theresp'ective' fasteners are 1 passed through the space's'lQ to bring the said jaws ;over-each-0ther as clearly disclosed by Figure 6 of thedrawings. Thelips 3onthe jaws are now positioned to slightly contact 7 withthe confrontingwalls 13 provided-by the projecting arms 14 thatafl'ord the space 12. The coengaging fastenersjmay be easily and quickly'brought into. engagement with each other and thelips-3 on the jawsof the said fasteners will prevent the; same from movinglongitudinallythrough the space 'or opening'12 intherespecti-ve fasteners, and it is thought thatthe foregoingdescription will I 1 fully and clearly set forth;my construction and its advantages without further detailed description. v a i V l e Obviously I do not wish tov be restricted to the precise details herein setfforth and, therefore, hold, myself. entitled to, make such changes therefrom asfairlyfall Within the m .scope of what llclaimg Cooperating fasteners forthe split ends of the'neok strap of aneck tie orthelike, each i Havingvdescribed the invention, I claim:

I i
a 2.. Cooperating fasteners provide an overlying vpart. that is bendable againstthe'body of the plate when an end of the strapis received therebetween, interengaging impinging elements on the plate andsaid overlyingpart, and the outer ends of ,theplates being formed with jaws de-- for. the split ends of the neck strap of a necktie or the like, each formed froma metal plate shaped to the part 6, when thesaid part 6 is bent upon a;
each comprising a fiat'plate which has one of itsends punched to provide conical teats having saw teeth and its'second end formed with an extension, said plate, inward of the extension being slitted longitudinally and transversely and the part bounded by the slit being-punched at the slitted end thereof to provide conical projections'whioh are provided with saw teeth, said part being bent on the body plate to provide an'overlying part which, is adapted to be forced against, the
plate when an end of the neck band is received on'said plate to cause the saw teeth of the conicalteats to pierce said strap, the body plate, outward of the overlying part thereon n being bent upon itself to provide an underlyingjaw, and a lip extending from said jaw.
4. Fasteners for the purpose set forth, each com'prisingaplate having a bendable part formed therewith, coengaging impinging elements on said part and the plate,:and each of said plates having a hooked end designed for coengagement.
