This invention relates to improvements in condiment holders, and more particularly it 7 pertains to anovel construction whereby the contents of the holder may be maintained in a finely divided condition, thereby rendering the contents capable of discharge through the perforated cover under all atmospheric conditions.
An object of the invention resides in the 0 provision of a novel form of agitating means adapted for movement through the body of material contained in the holder.
Another object of the invention resides in a novel construction whereby the agitator may be mounted for rotary movement in thedischarge cap of the holder.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, and for this purpose, reference is had to the accompanying drawing,-

Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the agitating means, showing its several parts in disassembled relation, and;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of a condiment holder constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the reference character 5 designates a condiment holder herein illustrated as a glass receptacle having a perforated cap or cover 6. The cap or cover 6 is removably carried by the receptacle, and is retained in position thereon by means of inter-engaging screw threads 7.
In carrying out the present invention, I provide an agitator 8 which extends substantially throughout the length of the interior of the receptacle, and this agitator is constructed and arranged to have rotary movement within said receptacle.
The agitator consists preferably of alength of a relatively stiff member of wire or rodlike form bent into spiral form one end of the member being with the axis of the spiral body portion of the agitator. This end 9 of the agitator is screw threaded as at 10, for a purpose to be here inafter described.

, A sleeve like bushing 14 is adapted for rotary movement in the bearing of the opening 12, and the inner end of this bushing is provided'with-anexternal flange or collar 25 adapted for engagement with the inner face of the cap 6 adjacent the opening 12 to limit movement of the bushing in one direction in the bearing formed by the said opening 12. The passage which extends through the sleeve .01 bushing 14 is internally screw threaded for interengagement with the threaded end 9 of the agitator 8 which construction provides for adjustment of the agitator 8 relatively to the bushing 14 and the bottom of the holder or receptacle 5.
eans is provided for rotating the agitator 8, and in the present embodiment of theinvention, this means consists of an operating knob 15. This operating knob has an internally threaded recess 16 adapted to receive the threaded end 9 ofthe agitator, and in addition to providing an operating means for the agitator 8, it functions as means for securing the agitator relative to the bushing 14.
In assembling the device, the screw threaded end 9 of the agitator is threaded through the threaded passage of the bushing 14 until properly positioned relatively thereto, after which the bushing 14 is inserted in the open- 6. The operating upon the threaded end 9 of the agitator 8 until it firmly engages the end of the bushing 14, thus producing a binding action which prevents movement of the agitator relative to the bushing 14.
As illustrated in figure 2, the bushing 14 "is slightly longer than thebearing 12 formed by the thickened portion 13 of the cap or cover 6, and this construction prevents binding of the perating knob 15 upon the top face of the cap or cover 6 and thus insures free turning of the agitator regardless of its adjustment in the bushing 14.

The operating knob 15 is grasped and turned preferably between the thumb and forefinger. This turning of the operating knobcauses a rotation of the bushing 14: in the bearing 12 and a consequent rota-ry movement of the agitator 8 through the body of material Within the holder 5. Should the contents become caked, the agitator is sufliciently stiff to permit of loosening the same to'provide for its ready discharge throughthe per- 15 forations of the cap or cover 6. i
- Thus it will be apparent thatthe present invention provides a new and novel construction of condiment holder in which the contents may at all times be maintained in pulverized condition and ready for discharge through a perforated cover.
' WVhile the invention has been herein illustrated in its preferred form, it is to be understood that it is not to be limited to the specific construction illustrated, but may be practiced in other forms Without departing from the spirit thereof. I r I Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and what it is desired to secure by United States Letters Patent, is;
An agitator for condiment holders comprising in combination with a receptacle, a cover therefor, said cover having a central 1 opening therein, and said cover being formed with a thickened portion through which the opening passes and which form a depending flange around the lower part of the opening,
a bushing rotatably arranged in the opening and having a flange at its lower end engaging the loWer end of said'first named fiangenvith the upper end of the bushing projecting from the cover, said bushing having a vertically arranged threaded hole therein, anagitator member having a straight upper end of considerable length formed with a threaded part and Which passes through the threaded opening in the bushing, and a' knob having a threaded socket therein for receiving the 50 upper end of said straight portion of the agitator member with the bottom face of the knob flat for engagement with the upper end of the bushing.
